At 60 years old, I don't care if the lyrics are written from a young man's mind, this song is a gem in all respects. We need more like this. If this isn't a classic, I don't know what is.
Sometimes dirt in the wound--and a little salt--is just what we need to make sense of the situation and move on with our lives. This song is that dirt. Add a little whiskey and you're already on the journey to a better place.
This is such a great album....one of those brilliant things you stumble upon...and now its as indispensable as my old flannel shirt and my guitar. Bravo, boys....
When it hits me that she's gone I think I'll run for President And get my face put on the million dollar bill So when these rich men that she wants Show her ways that they can take care of her I'll have found a way to be there with her still oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, When it hits me that shes gone I'll think I'll be an astronaut Make the moon my home and leave this world behind So when she steps out to the night and find the light that makes her pretty She'll be facing me everytime she shines oooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, oooh When it hits me that shes left me alone When I finally move on with my life Her goodbye written into stone And her shadow moving through the night When it hits me that shes gone I'll think I'll be a movie star Be the finest man the world has ever seen The lovers that she has found Tell her ways they have learned to talk to her Behind each perfect word is a little bit of me
Heard the Dawes version of this song on NPR yesterday, came to check out this version and other Middle Brother songs, as well as the music of their associated acts. I feel all the better for having discovered this amazing set of musicians.
Today, 8.2.2018, i still listen to this album daily, have "day dreaming" as my mobile ring tone and can't understand with this beauty is so underrated.
The beginning sounds so much like Dawes, I had this shuffling (I don't even remember putting it on there, but I had never played it) and without looking I was sure it was Dawes, so when the other dude's vocal comes in in the middle of the song, it really kind of shocked me, like someone had vandalized the track or something! LOL
Agreed. It’s like “I wish In was” from the Avett Brothers and there could have been so many more metaphors and a longer bridge with an instrumental solo.
@StarvingSound each member of Middle Brother is the frontman/lead singer of the following bands: Dawes, Deer Tick and Delta Spirit. Delta Spirit are my personal favorite, but check them all out! They make some great music
First verse’s singer is the lead singer of Dawes, second verse is the lead singer of deer tick, and the last verse is sung by the lead singer of delta spirit.
I thought this was a dawes song. Listened to the dawes version so many times so it won't be able to like this version better. Dawes version is way fuller!
why did u come here and spend the time to comment if you think this sucks? do you think your comment is so powerful that people will see it and automatically agree with your opinion? No.
Because freedom of speech, I can say whatever the fuck I want. I came here because I liked the band and I didn't know this song, and it turns out it sucks IMO. It's really stupid to assume everyone who says something negative expects people to agree with them. I'm just posting my opinion. If you like the song that's fine, just don't get so butthurt about it.
it sucks in your opinion, and i'll admit this isn't the greatest version of this song. it's a song by a band called dawes, who's singer/guitarist is in this band as well. listen to the original & you may change your mind. if not, the world would be very boring if we all liked the same things

There’s something timeless about this kind of sound.
There are some injuries you can't rub dirt in or walk off. Some injuries require optimism, whiskey, and Middle Brother's album to heal.
Great song.
Sometimes dirt in the wound--and a little salt--is just what we need to make sense of the situation and move on with our lives.

When John comes in on his verse, I always chuckle. Years of Marlboro reds are evident.
And yet the way he says "prettiest" is so... pretty.
When it hits me that she's gone
I think I'll run for President
And get my face put on the million dollar bill
So when these rich men that she wants
Show her ways that they can take care of her
I'll have found a way to be there with her still
oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh,
When it hits me that shes gone
I'll think I'll be an astronaut
Make the moon my home and leave this world behind
So when she steps out to the night and find the light that makes her pretty
She'll be facing me everytime she shines
oooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, oooh
When it hits me that shes left me alone
When I finally move on with my life
Her goodbye written into stone
And her shadow moving through the night
When it hits me that shes gone
I'll think I'll be a movie star
Be the finest man the world has ever seen
The lovers that she has found
Tell her ways they have learned to talk to her
Behind each perfect word is a little bit of me
Just heard this song for the first time today and I've watched about a dozen times. Truly a GREAT song.
I want Middle Brother back...
Heard the Dawes version of this song on NPR yesterday, came to check out this version and other Middle Brother songs, as well as the music of their associated acts. I feel all the better for having discovered this amazing set of musicians.
When it hits me that she left me alone, when I finally move on, with my life.
Today, 8.2.2018, i still listen to this album daily, have "day dreaming" as my mobile ring tone and can't understand with this beauty is so underrated.
Una delle dediche più belle che io potessi (addirittura)sognare di ricevere. Grazie; ogni giorno, S.
This song has been really important in hard times.
This one is tough to listen to...I won't shed a tear for her...I haven't shed a tear for her...she wasn't worth it.
She wasn't worth it, and I can finally enjoy this song again without holding in the tears.
Aaron Henderson love this.
Aaron Henderson Heck yeah, son!
good for you man. i have similar feelings and coming out the end of them.
@@AaronHendu This gives me hope. I'm lost.
Just discovered this music today and I'm in love!! 😍😍
I love Matt Vasquez's verse so much
Me too @kidbehindthekit. Hard to beat.
The entire album is phenomenal. One of my all-time favorites.*****
favorite
My only complaint is that I wish it were longer :c
Such a damn good song... (both this and dawes' version)
This album is excellent. Listen to it

I have just come home and for some reason this hits me hard in the the gut

any where i can download this album
Portland
Eachother...
I heard these guys are from other bands and this is their side project or maybe new band. Where else are they from?
Check out Deer Tick. John Mcauley's band.
First verse’s singer is the lead singer of Dawes, second verse is the lead singer of deer tick, and the last verse is sung by the lead singer of delta spirit.
That third part might be the best singing of all time
@Everyview Amen. Cheers
Conor oberst brought me here? I mean M Ward
@hopulikit22 Agreed.
too sad

The beginning was good, but after 01:22 I couldn't listen.
Not everyone is as cultured as the rest of us.
No offence, but what a terrible opinion
dude this sucks!! >:o

@crisfrey Please go fuck yourself.
+paul mitchell This one actually came first. A couple months apart, but Middle Brother came out before Nothing is Wrong.
Dawes is way better
