Btw, reasons for liking your videos is I find them soothing and relaxing, yet useful. Also Your small case makes it easy to see what's going on. That you use a keyboard also helps.
“Such a Mutable Instruments thing to just have a hidden ______ in the module”. Agreed! I personally place Emilie Gillet with the other GOATs of Robert Moog, Don Buchla, and Serge Tcherepnin.
You have touched on the most influential quotes from Cinematic Laboratory for me. “Many modules offer triggered grains and/or grain sprays. But clock divided/multiplied grains are unique and special. (Mojave, Melotus Versio, and Beads) Clocked grains are an important aspect of granular effects. If it can’t be clocked, it can’t dance”. “Instrument or effect? A granular instrument is like a VCO and can run by itself. A granular effect always needs an external sound-source to work on”. A Rample into any of these makes it into an excellent instrument.
quite perceptive:) what i love about the mojave is that it can be both, locking the buffer and then becoming a granular synthesizer if you choose to freeze it at a small grain size - the reason mojave wins in my opinion is its ability to switch firmware within a second or two, and most importantly can go to smaller grain sizes than other modules
Great vid. I have both of these modules and you've given me some tips I can use that I didn't think about... Love watching other people work, always something to learn :) Cheers!
@TheUnperson looking forward to that... maybe it's because I haven't dived super deep into its details, but just messing with it until surprising sounds emerge makes it feel magical.
@@tonverfall_studio Might try Mojave at some point, although I have two Qu-bit modules and I don't like them that much. Being Chord and Bloom, but they are old modules and different types of cake, so maybe I will gel with Mojave. I think Beads is a great improvement from Clouds, and that was the module that made me fall into eurorack. I know Beads disappointed many but I think they expected something more different...
Having both looks like a lot of fun to be sure. The Reverbs for each of the different quality levels on Beads is different, so really I think you have 4 different reverbs in there. Maybe it's just my ears, and the different sampling rates, but I'm pretty sure there are other differences.
I don't understand why they just discontinued Beads so soon and no clones, its so awesome. Did i miss it or did you not mention the built in Lfos on the Attenuverters when nothing is patched in mod inputs ? Awesome feature.
@@TheUnperson Thank you! Making module choices is soooo hard for me. I've always wanted to check out Beads, but haven't yet. Currently, I'm stuck trying to find the right module to add some polyphony to my rack. It is so hard to decide. By the way, I really enjoy the recent synth patches you made for the original OP-1. I've been messing around with them a lot. P.S. It took me about 6 months to decide to purchase the new version of Plinky v3. It showed up on Thursday!
Very interesting to see some of the direct overlap, but the differences between the two are certainly interesting. Even better that you show how you can use the two together for a "super-mojave-beads."
Now, this I'm really looking forward to, as it's impossible to get hold of Beads at any sensible price! Also, can you please step on qu-bits' toes and beg their Stardust module to review?! 🤟
Hey man .. nice idea, comparing, or "versus" .. it flushes out some nuances, I think, that over-wise may not happen. I've got a pair of Beads (wondering originally, about getting the 2nd, .. but not so much, now), .. but, it appears that Mojave's a good choice, too. The editing potential of either of these .. is there a bottom to them?
Clouds is popularly used as an end-of-chain effect with a unique comb-filtering style. Beads is not Clouds 2. Beads & Mojave can be more of a voice due to their controls. Both are very deep.
I have a Beads but it’s broken - working but it’s software won’t load. 😢😢😢 I got a Instruo Arbhar to replace it, which is interesting, any chance of a video on this ? Maybe my tears will bring my Beads back to life ???

That was excellent. Versus seems like it should actually be "parties with". Such a fantastic and dreamy combo! Cheers!
Haha yea definitely more of a party than a fight.

Definitely one of the greats imo too!

@@MelonSprout Each of the three have their +/-. Download manuals & watch videos to find your match. I use mine with field recordings.
There’s so much wisdom on the cinematic laboratory channel! ☺️
Your pad thing you did at 15 mins was amazingly beautiful. 🙏
Thank you :)
So timely. I was playing with my Mojave tonight, and was struggling a bit. Totally going to jam on these patches.
Thanks Ally!
Hope you had some fruitful jams!

Thanks! Yea it’s amazing how folks use the same modules with different results :)
That barking dog sample is dope
Gonna be released in a sample pack soon! 🐶
Since adding it about a year ago, Mojave has become my favorite module of the two dozen in my rack. Absolutely mind-boggling what it's capable of.
Have you tried Beads?
I’m gonna do a deeper dive into Mojave.. I’m sure there’s way more to explore!
@TheUnperson looking forward to that... maybe it's because I haven't dived super deep into its details, but just messing with it until surprising sounds emerge makes it feel magical.
@@jonaseggen2230 I did some research on it, and the Mojave felt less clinical, and then there's whole desert-inspired design... 🤤

Ohhh I always forget about the samples rates. I definitely need to explore that more!
Does it have any affect in the Wavetable mode?
Excellent ❤
awesome.
Thank you so much dear brother 🥰🦄🐬🌺🌸
Thank you too!
That bass at the start ❤
Bass fit for a badger lord!

Definitely found some inspiration for Beads, thanks! Also, could we maybe see the dog?
Thanks! I’ll ask my neighbour if Ragnar wants to be in a video lol
Which one fits your style more so? Do you have a favorite of the two?
I know Beads a lot more so I gravitate to Beads, but I typically use it just to add sparkly octaves and they both do it very well

Granular into granular is the new rings into clouds!
The reverb on Mojave has this weird sharp dropoff past 3 o clock.
Yea it definitely is a bit quiet

Would be interesting to hear how the neighbours dog sounds through both modules...😉

Yep, same here.
Would be great to see Disting Ex Granulator compared with any of the two as well.
I found it very difficult to use with all the menus. If the granular algo has made its way into the Disting NT then I’ll check it out!

I guess because they are processing audio , there’s no end to the sounds you can create :D

Old soviet space cartoons are epic!
Where does clouds fit in with these. When I first got into modular, clouds was just on its way out as the in sound.

I’ve never actually used clouds before. I’m thinking of getting a second hand one to make a video.
So apparently 1 granular module isn't enough now - you need to have 2 - Thanks a lot Ali 🙄 lol. Nice Jams!

Gotta move the knobs on Beads from the random to the rhythmic side. Un- shows how good this can sound.
