    You spoke about the two different lengths / heights of the rubber contacts. This is for touch sensitivity. (I am an ex engineer from Technics musical instruments. ) the first contact starts a counter counting backwards from 127 to 0. The 2nd contract stops the countdown and that is the velocity keystroke for that key. This is why if contact number 1 is dirty there is no count down and when the 2nd contact stops the count and reads the value it will get 127 value. If the 2nd contact is dirty the count will go all the way down to zero.

    Classic Skinny Puppy (Dwayne Goettel). If the keybed gets iffy you can run it via midi as a "module". In the 90's a used Roland JX-3p was all I could afford, sounded great though 🤠

    This came up on my feed. I own a K2000 R/S from 1994. I was always the weird dude with a K2000... especially when the K2500 had just come out. Loved it... especially coming from an Ensonic Mirage.

    Inspiring! I'm waiting on 2 RAM Chips for the effects unit to fix the dreaded Effects ticking sound - when they come I'll do a similar full clean as well as removing the SCSI hard drive - I replaced the floppy drive with a CF card reader when it failed. Also use it as a MIDI controller, and as a live gig keyboard when our player comes in from out of town.

    I bought two K2VX's, replaced both screens, maxed out ram and installed the latest Firmware chips. On one I used a hard drive emulator that takes microsd cards that plugs into the scsi port. They both work great!

    K2000's with 0rig V.A.S.T. are still amazing & incredible instruments.They have a warm sonic quality that's slightly unique comparatively tooo it's other siblings (or anything else for that matter) kid's¡!

    Great work... my K2000 kept blowing a fuse on startup... not every time but often enough to keep a box of spare fuses in my gig bag... I swapped out the display for a new one and added the sample and P/RAM expansion card and it served me well for quite a while with no major headaches ... I no longer own it but I'd consider getting a K2600 or 2700 if the condition and price was right.

    A herculean task well done! I also bought a K2000S back in the early 90s. I only opened it once when I updated the eprom for the OS. And those sounds! I sold it a few years ago after not using it much, but it felt like owning a spaceship from the future back when I bought it. Thanks for sharing this process.

      "...owning a spaceship from the future..."
      Man is that a good description of the experience back then. It's rather dated now, but considering mine is still working (more or less), I guess I can't say I didn't get my money's worth!

    Thankyou so much for your effort and determination, it certainly paid off!! Sadly my Kurzweil K2000 is in my loft and needing a repair, but you've given hope that these remarkable keyboards still have a place in todays crazy world of sounds, so I'll pull my finger out and try to get mine fixed.

    The high and the low contact measure the velocity -- the speed between high and low

    • @timpullen4941
      @timpullen4941 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ann Other you mentioned speed, which is just the broad concept. It is a count down timer that starts at 127 and counts down to 0. Which is why if the count start contact is bad and the stop contract is working the volume will be 127 on that key regardless of velocity. If the start contract is good but the stop contract is bad, the CPU doesn't know that a key was depressed.

      try replacing the batteries in the bottom of the K2000 if these went dead then it may have dumped the ram memories, if the unit comes back up you will have to do a factory reset , the procedure is on the kurzweil web site, hope this works for you

    • @ComposerKristin
      @ComposerKristin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! I'm definitely going to have to go back in and make some more upgrades/repairs at some point. I thought it'd mostly outgrown its usefulness in my studio, but now I'm kind of digging it again.
      But also... I'm pretty sure the bulk of those "dust bunnies" were actually "cat hair bunnies". Uhhh... lesson learned, LOL.

      here's a tip for you when you pull the rubber contacts for the velocity and you want to clean the pads underneath use a soft eraser and gently go over them do not use alcohol it will dissolve the contacts ( not good) LOL

    Hi, Nice video. thanks.
    * The difference in the height of the two tabs is to change the time they collide with the main board. The stronger the keyboard is played, the shorter the time interval between these two numbers of tabs and the main board will be, and this will detect the intensity of the impact and, in fact, the touch response of the keyboard.
    * You can buy and install a special aftertouch felt instead of the worn rubber piece that is placed on the aftertouch tape.
    cheers
