- Bollywood has harboured a fetish for remixes for quite some time now. Old melodies and tunes are being rehashed and ‘reloaded’ for such music that drowns in their wannabe avatar. Seldom have remixes of classic tunes and iconic songs found favour over their more memorable counterparts. It perhaps is a reinstation of the ‘old is gold’ adage or simply a preference for the original over the copies that Bollywood has only rarely been able to be boastful of its recreations. Here are some such remixes Bollywood has seen in recent times that not only were blatantly unappealing but also almost undid the glory of the originals.

To be honest, my favorite remake is "Teri Fariyaad" from "Tum Bin 2". The way it used Jagjit Singh version with Rekha Bharadwaj voice is awesome.

Songs like neele neele ambar, kaanta laga, keh doon tumhein, all are remade. So many songs have been remade in the 90s as well. The art is how you remake/remaster them. Technically speaking, Madan Mohan’s music was remastered and used in Veer Zara as well. So it all depends on the art and the vision which somehow bollywood music lacks.

The thing is for the ones who never heard the original songs seem to enjoy these remakes which again have very little gravitas of the original songs. For example, kala chashma is very electronically driven which sounds good to the new listeners while it has taken only a few lines and tunes from the original rendition.

Current issue is we are making tons of new movies, every movie has atlwast 3-4 songs irrespective of genre, and then there are very few lyricists in the known field who create good work, its very hard for them to create something new every fortnight, Add on this if lyrics are bad people will not leave you unharmed (Aur 90% of films bhi arent good to cover a weak song, its gonna get xposed), so they are playing safe tugging in hit songs to avoid backlash, just like they are doing with remakes.
