As an Indian, I can't imagine life without milk and dairy products. We eat paneer/kshiraj(indian cottage cheese) atleast 5 times a week in my family. We don't cook anything without ghee and butter. We do use other oils like mustard, sesame etc but ghee gives that flavour😋

We have atleast 20 different types of paneer(cottage cheese) curry. We drink 1 glass milk daily. All our roti( chapati), and daal(pulses) have ghee over it. We have lassi, buttermilk, curd, yogurt, rabdi, chena, sweets made of milk and many other milk products.

The thing is your Scandinavian countries are very rich...in India, there is a lot of poverty and many people can't even afford milk....so on a per capita level, we'll be lower. China would probably be by far the smallest out of those present. It's just slightly ahead of Brazil in total consumption, with 4-5 times the population for example.

@CheeseConsumer69 camel & donkey are pretty close to horses and here in india we still consume camel milk and donkey milk in small pockets. Though it's not produced commerialy. Usually families profuce and consume for themselves and maybe for people living inside their community. They even have camel cheese which is pretty good imo.... But horse milk is not consumed in india as far as i know. It's popular in Central asia like Kyrgyzstan, but these animals are harder to domesticate and produce milk for profits unlike cows. Plus most recipes use cow / buffalo milk so it becomes exotic thing for most part.

Good hard work PWA but I know almost every dairy farm that milks in New Zealand has employees that get their milk straight from the VAT/ bulk tank. Good hard work PWA but I know almost every dairy farm that milks in New Zealand has employees that get their milk straight from the VAT/ bulk tank. I'd say close to double the value given because the employees do get friends and family free milk. Like my parents and sister get 5 litres a day that they use. Also I used to drink upwards of 2 litres a day alone when i got it free.
i know a lot of people who'd drink an unholy amount daily if it wasnt $5+ for a bloody 3L bottle
Well Indians having a majorly Vegetarian diet, we rely on Cattle Milk, Milk products, Soyabeans and Pulses for Protein, for meat.

Those three things are unrelated to the nation itself. We have a stronger military (with around 700 billion more in spending), larger nation with more natural resources, largest gdp in the world (with around 20 trillion more than India), and all of this, even with Biden as our ‘president’.
