Peron's short life leaves long legacy

For someone who never held elected office, Eva Peron may be the most beloved figure in modern Argentina's politics. The former first lady, who died in 1952 at the age of 33, championed the causes of poor people and labour unions and was credited with giving crucial support to the push for women's suffrage. She was a charismatic figure loathed by many industrialists and wealthy Argentinians, but one who inspired women to become involved in politics. In 1951, beginning to suffer from cervical cancer, she declined mass popular calls to run as vice president on the ticket with her husband, Juan Peron. Teresa Bo reports from Buenos Aires.
