I recently realized all the Romantic languages and Latin language all come from when the roman empire fell apart and the local populace just evolved the languages over time until they became distinct. Its wild to think at the height of rome people could go on vacations to countries on the other side of the empire, or travel for business like in modern day. and also having the common currency allowed all that too. Cool to think of how modern they were back then in some ways
