Having owned both an 2022 XSR900 (Black) and 2022 MT-09 SP at the same time, I have to correct you on a few points, and add some more info I've gathered after comparing them side-by-side for two months.
    - The handlebars are significantly higher on the MT-09 SP. They are lower on the XSR900. The forks are equal height, but the risers are far higher on the MT-09. Easily seen in any side-by-side pic, and also easily seen side-by-side in the Yamaha configurator.
    - The handlebar to seat height is also higher on the MT-09. Just look at both bikes from the side in the Yamaha configurator and it's very easy to see. This matters greatly for comfort.
    - The MT-09 SP is equally as stable, but far more flickable. The only exception is at very high (very illegal) speeds where the XSR900 is more planted.
    - At low speeds the MT-09 SP is far more stable to maneuver due to the higher handlebars and upright position. I have not tested the stock MT-09, so it might differ from the SP.
    - If you are a taller person (I'm 6ft / 185cm) the MT-09 is far more comfortable to ride all day. It's an all day bike, even with the stock seat, and the XSR900 is a 2 hour bike. Not just because of the seat, but also because of the lengthy tank and the lower handlebars, and the fact that the seat is lower, which means your legs will be more cramped (the pegs are in the exact same position on both bikes, so your legs will always be more cramped on the XSR900).
    - Turn off the LIF control and the XSR900 will easily wheelie far more in 1st gear than what you said. But not as easily as the MT-09.
    - There is less wind-drag on the MT-09 due to the shape of the tank and air intakes, literally funneling the air further up on you. I didn't think it would be noticeable, but it is very noticeable at highway speeds.
    - The XSR900 looks very different and better, I think.
    - The headlight on the XSR900 works significantly better in the dark.
    - The XSR900 intake sound is louder. This can be negative and positive, depending on preference.
    - The XSR900 has better factory suspension setup. The MT-09 SP NEEDS a proper setup, it's far too stiff from the factory. But once it's properly setup, it's far more stable.
    - The MT-09 has that stupid tank meter where it's full or half tank. The XSR900 has a much better tank gauge, showing full, 3/4, 1/2, etc.
    - The MT-09 is better suited for luggage and touring, there's far more options available, and brackets for top boxes can easily be attached. A bit more tricky on the XSR due to how the seat is (no attachment points on the lower sides of the seat).
    - The black anodized aluminum passenger pegs on the XSR900 looks nice. But they scratch very easily. I had a passenger once, and they had shiny wear spots after one use.
I can imagine that the XSR900 performs better at high-speed canyon driving in the US. But in Europe, where the roads and twisties are far, far, FAR smaller, tighter and twistier, which means slower speeds, the MT-09 SP performs better.
After getting over the honeymoon period I sold my XSR900 after 2 months and 3000km (2000 miles) of use. It's just painful to ride for longer rides compared to the MT-09, and the MT-09 SP is far more fun and lively to ride around on smaller backcountry roads with - which in Norway is what we have - there's not a single high-speed canyon here.
Both are fantastic bikes, just slightly different in what their strenghts and weaknesses are. The CP3 engine is equally fantastic in both, it's just an amazing setup. And both bikes are FAR more flickable than the 2022 MT-10, which I test drove for a day. Also an amazing and brutal bike in the straights, but it feels very top heavy and slow to turn in the twisties compared to the XSR900 and MT-09.

This is a really good and probably far more accurate break down then my video since you have owned both. I really wish owners with this much experience would make videos. Reviewers don't have a lot of time with the bikes so they have glossed over a couple of the points you made.
Now that you mention it my legs do feel cramped even compared to my XSR700.
I have sat on the MT bikes but have never ridden any of them. They don't seem any more upright to me but if I got a chance to ride one I'm sure it would be noticeable.
As far as first gear wheelies. I'm pretty good at leaning forward under the hard acceleration of first gear and have tested it many times with lift control turned off. My front wheel won't even come off the ground 50% of the time under Full Throttle. BUT! I live in Southern California where it has been over 100° f every single day since I picked the bike up and the coolest weather I have ridden it in has been 77° F at night. I remember how much harder my 700 pulled in cold weather so I imagine in Europe the front wheel comes up hard. I know it's got to be much cooler over there.
Lastly. Even on the Giant open roads near my house that I film at, this bike in D mode 1 is so damn fast. I couldn't imagine owning it where the roads are tighter. Did you by any chance cross shop your SP with the Aprilia Tuono 660 factory? I heard it's one of the best bikes ever for tight stuff and overall fun on the street. I almost bought it but I just can't get past the looks, I don't like it at all. And I've always wanted to own something with excessive acceleration like the 900.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for your detailed comment.

@@TheCoolestCourier Maybe I'll look into videos one day :) I'm too much of an introvert to be comfortable on camera, I prefer to be behind the camera :D
The MT-09 is more upright, you'll notice it straight away when driving it. The MT-10 is actually less upright, and is somewhere in-between the XSR900 and MT-09.
This summer in Norway has been the coldest and worst summer since 1978... So yeah, it's been cold and wet. And cars and bikes always accellerate better in the cold, especially in the winter. It can be very noticeable, especially on the mid-range pull/torque, both on bikes and cars. Also, I only run my bikes on 98 octane Shell V-Power premium gasoline (no ethanol), which also might make it pull harder in the midrange - and it also lowers fuel consumption. Over those 2000 miles I was averaging 56 MPG (city and highway mixed, and mixed agressive and normal driving) on the XSR with the combination of cold air and high octane fuel.
These CP3 bikes are brutally fast. I can't ever imagine needing more. I didn't buy it for it's power, but more for it's character. I've always loved 3 cylinder engines. 2 cylinders always feel like they run out of steam a bit too early in the rev range, and 4 cylinders seem to need 9000-10000rpm to wake up, and then the 3 cylinders kinda provide the best of both worlds. A friend of mine owns the Aprilia Tuono 660 ... It's a good bike when it works fine. But it's had an engine recall, engine swap, and many small annoyances, and the Aprilia dealership and workshop people is horrible to deal with, it's been a really horrible ownership experience for him, at least here. The Tuono 660 looks nice from a distance, but get close to one and you'll quickly see how much more cheaply made it feels and looks. It makes the Yamaha's seem premium in build, material and paint quality. If I was gonna have a sportbike-looking bike like the Tuono, I'd rather have a full on sportbike, like the S1000RR M-Sport (my dream bike) and call it a day :) The Tuono is trying to look like a sportbike, but it's not. It's just kinda weird and in the middle design-wise, and confusing. I want a naked/upright bike to look like a naked :)
I miss California. Been there many times, and my dream would be to do Highway 1 from San Francisco all the way down to L.A. again, but on a bike instead of a car. I really enjoyed Carmel-by-the Sea, and especially the area around San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. You're lucky to live in a place where you can walk around in a T-Shirt in January, and ride motorcycles all year around :) And you've got so many nice roads and canyons to choose from there! I'd work and ride all day every day, and not have time for much else :D The season is very short here at 7 months.

    • @TheCoolestCourier
      @TheCoolestCourier ปีที่แล้ว +4

I can't believe how bad the gas is here. In California the highest octane at Shell is 91 and my XSR has averaged 43 MPG.
That really sucks about the Aprilia ownership. I have heard that as well. Things happen to the bike and when they do the dealership sucks.
And yeah for a motorcyclist living in California is pretty amazing especially since I'm in between LA and San Diego in a non crowded area.
My girlfriend and I would really like to stay here, it's just so expensive. When we get married and move in together at our current incomes we can afford to live here but that's why I'm going to see what I can do with this TH-cam channel as well as music. If I start looking into sponsors for videos I could potentially keep going and make enough to stay here :)

@@TheCoolestCourier Well in regards to the octane numbers, 98 octane sounds super high. But European octane and US octane numbers differ. 91 US octane is the same as 95 EU octane. 93 US octane is the same as 98 EU octane. Most people fill 95 (91) here, and only a few gas stations offer 98 (93). So I'm basically filling the same as US 93 octane, but they do still offer it without ethanol here.
I was married to an american woman who studied in Los Angeles, and we had initially planned to move there. Also have an aunt living in Santa Barbara and an uncle living in Santa Cruz. But damn, the costs of living in California is insane for people getting situated and established in these times. So she moved to Norway and we lived here instead. I hope it works out for you and your girlfriend in California! It's been a while since I looked at pricing there now, but maybe places like Ojai are less expensive? That was a beautiful area we went hiking once. Might be a bit far for a commute for work tho, that's always the problem, finding a good balance between commute distance and living costs. Yes, I was in a band called Arrlo for 3 years but recently all of the members had moved to Las Vegas and over time the communication between us just kept getting worse and I couldn't make it up there for the shows, I got lazy with social media and they were full steam ahead, we had differences on what money should be spent on. I'm in the camp of get a large online presence and don't waste money on tours when you're not famous. They didn't feel the same way. So we parted ways.
I am currently trying out for two bands. One is Dayshell. ( former vocalist and bassist from Of Mice and Men).
      The other is called Ancira.
All three bands I mentioned are on all streaming platforms if you're curious what they sound like.
If you search on TH-cam "Arrlo Blood Art" that is one of my favorite tracks I've done on drums.

I test road an MT09 around three years ago, and I didn't like how the bike never felt planted. so even though I liked some things about the bike I decided it wasn't for me. but I have been eyeing this XSR since it came out, I like the looks allot more than the older XSR, and I have watched many video reviews and liked that they extended the swing arm and gave it more stability, so yesterday I finally test road one. I forgot how insane the power is on this machine. even with the longer swing arm the bike feels like it wants to lift off. but the stability is improved. and I like the way I felt on the bike. the seat isn't the most comfortable seat in the world. but lots of new bikes are similar. but for me what was going through my mind is if I really want a bike with such insane power. and there is something about the bike that makes you want to use that power all of the time. and if you are gunning it in little spurts in the city. the bike picks up so fast that you can get into trouble just as fast. I have been riding most of my life and bought the first 1984 900 Ninja when it came out. and back then when I was allot younger I thought the more pickup the better. but now that I am allot older. I feel like that power might just get me into trouble. and I am not the risk taker feeling like I am invincible like when I was younger. maybe I am just wiser. but I am not sure how I feel about buying the bike. and just to let you know, the bike is not nearly as planted and as stable feeling as my 1984 Ninja. that bike felt so comfortable to go fast on. anyway I think the XSR is an amazing machine. but I am considering some other bikes that are total opposite machines. like the Triumph T120 Bonneville. which has nice low end power. but is no where near as insane as the XSR. it has a flat comfortable seat. a totally upright seating position. and the tone of the engine is just beautiful to listen to, and it has that classic styling. and on the opposite end the new Triumph streetvTripple RS, which has 130 HP, but because its a 765 cc, it probable has less of an insane low and midrange. and maybe a little more stable of a ride. I am also considering the new Honda Hornet. but I haven't seen one in person yet or ridden one. but I like the idea of a 90hp twin engine. on a lightweight body. so as of now I am not sure which way I am going to go. I still could end up with an XSR. where I live everything is more expensive, with the money conversion the XSR is over $13.000 dollars.

    • @TheCoolestCourier
      @TheCoolestCourier ปีที่แล้ว

You seem very experienced and well read even on the newer bikes. So kudos to you for doing your research. There is a review up on the MCN Channel of the new Honda Hornet versus the mto7 and the consensus was that it is pretty much better in every way. I don't like the way it looks but it does seem like the superior bike.
It's hard to balance lightweight and stability. I think the xsr 900 strikes the perfect balance. I've ridden some big bikes from the 80s and I totally get what you mean they are more planted but they're also nearly a hundred pounds heavier and they don't flick side to side even slightly close to the way new nakeds do let alone this Xsr. The corners is where are where I find this bike most impressive.
I don't really care about going fast but I absolutely love the thrill of acceleration and my favorite thing to do is 0 to 80 pulls and nothing I've ridden has been as thrilling as the way this bike accomplishes that.
But it is a ton of midrange and if you're commuting in the city you're pretty much doomed to speed here and there. Luckily 80% of what I do is just take this bike to Canyon mountain roads but it is absolutely a handful around cars unless you have a ton of restraint and pretend it doesn't have the power that it does. Because it is very smooth and operable. But the passing power is just too tempting.
Honestly if the Triumph is very comfortable to ride that might be the way to go. Sometimes I do wish for a comfy ride.

XSR900 easily. I've always been a torque over horsepower kind of Rider. And there's a big gap between those two bikes. The 68 lb ft in the Yamaha feels like it's more than that honestly just because of how aggressive it comes on. Anywhere anytime it's ready to pull hard and I love that. Last weekend I went on my first group ride and one of the guys let me ride his GSXR 600 which is the first time I've ever taken a bike to 15,000 RPM. There is something to be said about the sound it makes. It's very cool and it is objectively fast but it didn't feel fast at all because of the torque difference between our two bikes even though horsepower is similar. I think the Yamaha would do just fine on track, to me it handles like a superbike on the road compared to my xsr 700 and as far as quality I think it looks and feels like a $14,000 bike and I think reliability is also part of quality and I've always regarded Yamaha as the best and reliability with Honda being second.

Well, the xsr planted itself in my brain again, unfortunately :-) I've owned a 2015 Tracer, an 2018 09SP and more recently a 2021 09 (not the SP but still with an Ohlins in the back) and a 2021 09GT. Both sadly were sold very quickly especially for the vague feeling in the front end. I found them to be near dangerous when leaned well over. But, I really, really love the engine so there comes the XSR. How does it feel in the corners ? Could you have a good time on it on the occasionel trackday ? I'm not that bothered with the comfort on long ride outs, 99% of my riding are sundayblasts, cathcing some nice corners and popping the odd wheelie, just for fun. Have no interest for outright speed, there are speed cams every 50 meters here in Belgium. I just want a bike that I can have fun on (on lower speeds). I wonder if the xsr ticks those boxes for me ?

suspension and flat out beauty of the XSR.. Bug Eye is not for me. The Gold and Blue and Blacked out Frame/Engine is gorgeous.. what's frame, what's engine.. beautifully integrated.. obviously the strength is Obvious. Those Ducati welded truss frames just don't do it.. I coulda done the Blackout version, but my mustang already did that.. I like a seat shelf! I like feeling the seat corner on my inner thigh when gripping the bike.. Keeps me well located and centered. Pretty upright.. I would prefer the foot pegs maybe an inch(?) lower. If I can't find a bracket, I'll make one.. looks easy. Bitch gets her OWN Bike.. those stirrups are silly. Would of preferred a redish color, but blue/gold is Classy as heck too. I can't get over the quick shifter.. current mustang advertises Rev Matching.. but you still have to use the clutch!! Don't they realize that a real XSR style quick shifter is worth an easy half a second in the quarter? Ford needs to get to work.. real mean don't need no Stinkin' clutch!!! It's truly an inspiration..

Overall the 900 offers more Thrills and much higher performance with the handling but the $700 felt more raw and connected with that cable actuated throttle and second gear is better on the 700 because they completely neutered the torque in the mid RPMs in second gear on this bike for whatever reason and it damn near ruins the city commuting experience. most kids with their bizarre ideas about what makes a cafe build cant recognize what the seat desgin is about ...it simply forllows the precise lines of a cafe tail piece meaning all that's lacking for the full effct is a cover to make it look like a road race seat. I am suprprised if Yamaha does not sell that? Surely some aftermarket company does like Ermax that makes a cafe fairing and lower cowl BTW what I keep seeing morons do to bikes they claim are cafe builds? Just want to make me puke! lol here is a typica build step one put on knobbies even though it will never see dirt (WTF??) step 2 remove both fenders (WTF?) step 3 put a ridiculous gawdawful long tuck and roll seal that does not in any way go with the bike .....TRIPLE WTF and they call THAT a "cafe" build? Not sure how that crap got started my guess there was a lot of influence from TV series The Walking Dead where a favorite character supposedly cobbled a bike together out of whatever he could find...which I mean for the series it was cool the dude killing zombies off his bike but it certainly had nothing to do with any generation of actual cafe builds! The first orginal cafe racers in UK were atrocious basically anything goes...but the American translation of that in the early 70s was actually the roots of modern sportbikes ...the best builds had fairings and tail pieces clip ons or drag bars hand fabbed headlight mounts etc ....I dont recall anyone taking off fenders I think that is coming from the "tracker" style idea but no fenders on a street bike is a really stupid idea and so it LOOKS stupid....it looks fine in dirt track racing as does the absense of front brakes but any attempt to capture that look on a street bike you HAVE to run brakes, fenders and appropriate damn tires
