It's time for the manufacturers of these machines address this vulnerability. It shouldn't be up to every single customer to wiggle and jiggle your machine to make sure it's legit!
I think that's what happened to me with my Ban of America card! Then the hackers used it and withdrew money in an ATM at Wells Fargo! I reported the fraud! Thanks for sharing this info!! From now on, I will definitely pay more attention and follow these instructions at every ATM that I get to use.
It happened to me too. After losing my card, I stayed put at the ATM, waiting for bank staff and police to arrived. Low and behold, I think I saw a suspect owner of card skimmer whose flashy car was parked directly in front of a bank. He stuck his head out of window and asked: "What is going on?" I also saw his laptop open. I suspected him only latter, after I researched online about card skimmers, many coming with *BLUETOOTH,* meaning criminals were nearby. Hours later, I saw similar car outside another bank. Car plate looked similar too. I reported my suspicions to police.
The components here are very specialized and well designed. The companies that make the ATMs should be aware that their equipment has certain vulnerabilities and respond with counter measures of some kind so that these devices can't be designed to slip over the parts of the ATM.
There are counter measures made, but it's up to the bank to purchase them. The problem is, it will never be 100% fool proof. You stop one way and they will figure out another way. It's a vicious cycle

Seriously with how bad it's getting why isn't there a way to stop these exploits.
They need to actually start arresting these store owners for theft.
They can only do so much.
Let's wiggle and giggle their ATMs until they " break". Then this may force them sone way to stop these skimmer gadgets off the market.

Isn't there cameras how did the bank not see them putting that device on there, must have been an inside job.
