- Part 3 of Ultimate Adventure 2016. Sleep? We don’t need no stinkin’ sleep on Ultimate Adventure! What do you do when you spend most of the night making repairs in your hotel parking lot? That’s right - you get up bright and early before the sun is up, make more repairs, and then head out for the trail! In this case, that trail happens to be the most famous in the world: the Rubicon. Everybody with a 4x4 has dreamed of running it. Now, no matter where you live you can come along with the Ultimate Adventure as it locks the hubs and drops through the Gatekeeper at the beginning of the Rubicon Trail for the first time since UA hit this trail on the 2001 Ultimate Adventure. We shuffled ahead of a couple big groups airing down to get our foot in the door and earn a clean shot to our campsite half-way through at Buck Island Lake. And thanks to a pretty severe winter and the fact that we hit the trial rather early in the season before most of the big Jamborees rolled through, the Rubicon was all kinds of torn up and extra-challenging. We definitely put the Warn winches and Bubba Rope recovery product to the test on this one. And just when you think we’re done for the day and it’s siesta time, here comes the helicopter with our afternoon cups of coffee. Only on the UA! man I'll be honest, I'm pretty glad my rig wasn't chosen this year. I'm not opposed to rocks by nature, but I'm way more of a mud guy, the previous years in the deep south and midwest were great, slick and gooey and leaves your rig in dire need of a car wash instead of body work and a paint job. Im glad they change it up and keep it fresh and not repetitive, just glad this wasn't my year.
Quality rigs! Stunning trails & locations but I can't help but think the series feels more like highlights of The Ultimate Adventure with a hell of a lot of advertisement thrown in.
I'd would love to see long lightly edited versions of just the trucks rolling down the trails and the adventure as a whole to get a better feel for it.
Amazing the flex we have on suspensions today, i remember the 70's and 80's when you had to be partially crazy to run some of these lines.
I want that little coffee-delivery helicopter.
Man, people are hating on this year so hard! I'm enjoying it, and I don't mind the sponsorship thing. There's so little good wheelin' content out there I'll take what I can get.

So i dont think there should be any arguing about them trying to sell their product.
And thats good because you can actualy see their product in action rather than just a sign on the edges of a sports field.

I ran my heavily modified Yugo on the Rubicon in 05 and ran the entire trail, with some winching. I got a lot of stares and heckles. Wish I could get on a UA trip. Looks like a blast

When I started to do the rubicon with the Auburn jeep club,who btw took smith over the trail for his first time,the lodge at rubicon springs was still there.fallin over but still there,been 30 years since I've been over,so I enjoyed this video.some stuff is odd to me though,old slice? It's little slice and big slice.
back in the 80s i rode it on a yamaha xt 600. took all day long. another trip was the barrets lake trail.

I couldn't even get out of the hotel parking lot because I forgot my Falken tires, Warn winch, and offroad design transfer case.
It takes some of the shine off finishing this trail when you hear that horses used to pull stage coaches through it regularly.
Seems to be an invite-only infomercial ride. I've seen this before, but can't even bring myself to watch half of it this time. Unfortunately, this is the same old-school Motor Trend served let-down. I realize these runs cost money to do, but would rather see a bunch of guys without the manufacturers, or manufacturer reps, involved. Propaganda for advertising's sake is one thing, but this is just sad.
Dont worry, its warn winch time. It never fails.
If there were no sponsors, who would pay for it? I'm not talking about just the video itself, but who would pay the expenses of organizing and ensuring that the participants have the required equipment? It's annoying, but still fun.

I'm actually most disappointed by the video quality... the camera settings or something was off. Footage had this odd strobing that gave me a horrible headache. That and I never did get a sense of what products they were using... tell us more about that, please.
Trip looked fun but you guys can so much better... looking forward to 2017.

"rugged radios are working great". what he meant to say is they are illegally transmitting on them
people are allowed to use other frequencies besides the cb band...for example short wave and cell phones
cellphone company has to get a license for said frequency then you pay them to be allowed usage of that frequency. even if they got a business radio license those re-branded baofengs are not part 90 certified. so unless everyone has an amateur license no they aren't legal.
tow master technically they can transmit on the MURS frequencies without a license as long as the radios are MURS certified... but like you said, they're rebranded baofengs... which is hilarious whenever I hear someone say that they bought one I just laugh and tell them that they bought a pile of polished crap.

No way I'd do a trip like this. Its no fun if you are on no sleep and keeping a breakneck pace. Looks great other than that.
I was hoping when the helicopter landed it was Pewe to revive this dead "adventrue" even Fred seems to be less happy about UA without Pewe.
