I think it's left me with more questions than answers around how strong our squad actually is. I know the 3 are coming back from long term injuries but those aside, the rest showed nowhere neat enough hunger or desire to stake a claim for a 1st team place for me. Jaden was really disappointing after showing lots of promise and I would rather have had Barkley with Kamara and McGinn further forward, he opens up play and spreads the ball around so well. I can't see Buendia being at the club next year. We all know this is the bottom of the pile of competitions to win so I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. UTV
While I understand the reasons for rotating the team.I am disappointed we should be aiming to win this competition. Realistically start of the season champions league we won't win the Premier league we won't win FA Cup slim chance and Carabo Cup is probably our best chance. While Unai has done an amazing job, I want to see this team win something tonight is a missed opportunity.
Last minute of ET we had a free kick on the half way line. Rather than getting everyone in the box and Gauci launching it in, we played backwards keeping possession?! Bailey is a shadow of his former self. Great to see Mings back and getting some minutes.
Was thinking that myself. It was like Villa were trying to run out the clock! Push everyone one up and make the defenders clear their lines. Instead we passed it sideways for 3 of the 4 minutes.
It is what it is. Unai removed the temptation to risk some of the main guys by not bringing them. He knows the PL is the most important. Mathematically We're going to lose games but not likely back to back. We've got One out of the way, so onto Spurs for 3 points. 🤞 They're be boosted mentally by beating City (even they weakened their side) but physically tired from doing so. UTV
Duran just wasn't getting the service he needed tonight. If there had been a midfield playmaker like Tielemans or Barkley on the bench I think that may have had a big impact in the 2nd half
Good to see you tonight briefly Luke! Was going to come over in the fan zone pre match but you looked deep in conversation and didn’t want to act like a groupie lol 😊
Kamara played okay. Mings played okay. They are rusty, no doubt. I'll have to go back and watch it again, but I don't feel like Kamara did a great job of seeing the field (besides one or two over the top balls) and neither did Mings. I feel Pau and Youri are playing a level above those guys right now and that was easy to see from tonight. Mings had some good defensive plays that we just don't see from Pau. So I appreciate that dynamic. I would like to see more of Kamara and Mings getting worked in. Overall, this is a really talented team. I feel like if Tielemans and Ollie had played at any point during this match the outcome would have been different. Give them 30 minutes of work. No big deal for them, but I feel it would have made a big difference just on a confidence level for other guys getting new minutes. Anyway, have a good night yall. UTV!
I was at the game. It was slow and pedestrian. You could tell that some of the players had not played 90 mins for a while... CP were much brighter and wanted it more... Our keeper was a little suspect tonight... UTV
Diego Carlos again gifting a goal by passing directly to the opposition on the edge of the box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's done this a minimum of four times this season leading directly to conceding a goal!!!!!!!!
People can say "We have more important games and bigger fish to fry" but it's this mentality that is the reason why we haven't won anything since 1996. I want to win something. Realistically we can only win the League Cup and the FA Cup and we have to win something soon otherwise all this "success" is hollow. I don't want to be Spurs. I've never criticised Emery but I'm really disappointed in him tonight. I'm okay with that starting lineup but you have to bring at least 5 of the first team players to sort things out if things aren't going right. Tonight Emery was either very naive or didn't care about winning and they aren't things that I associate with Emery or his Aston Villa.
I've got no problem with this. We got to rotate, bring in some fresh legs, rest our first team for the crazy run of games we've got comin up and still gave it a go. Premier League and Champions League come first. I know some fans are unhappy about not fully going for this, but they don't understand the financial rules, and how we need to keep finishing 4th in order to sustain what we have. We'll lose our best players if we don't perform well in the PL and CL £. The trophies will come once we establish ourselves as a top club.
The thing is we could lose the next three games and still finish top 4/5 , still reach champs league later stages etc but lose tonight and we're out. Ramsay should have come on OR started if in the squad. I think there should have been a little more depth on the bench and the second goal was atrocious on every level, literally embarrassing tbh. Buendia for me has had his time, upgrade needed. I think we will see more minutes with Duran and Watkins on the same pitch as the season goes on as Watkins can play in different roles.
Palace played a very strong team except for the GK. This was a young team that needed minutes as you say. That is the main takeaway. I think Kosta, Maatsen, Kamara give Emery something to think about regarding the CL and Prem. But yes, Philogene really underachieves a bit. Why does he beat a man then stand on the ball, slowing everything down? Just whip the ball in and ask questions of the defenders! Emery can't be pleased with that.
Passionate rant so please excuse this message but I generally worry without Barkley or Teilemens in the middle of the park games like today have really been a mainstay for us in Cup Competitions. Where was the energy to go get some goals, players looked lost. Only positive was Mings back. Is Gauci a decent backup keeper to Martinez? Surely there can be better replacements. Carlos is another that makes me wonder what performance are we getting from him, some games he looks like a mistake happening anytime soon other times he looks amazing. When are we going to start taking cup seriously?! You are better losing 5-4 than looking clueless and lethargic. I want to see Aston Villa win a trophy in my lifetime but all the years of supporting them I am not seeing any adjustments to this dream happening anytime soon. It’s just I love this club, I only want the best for Aston Villa
11 changes and a bench full of kids, think it’s clear Emery wasn’t bothered about tonight 😂 On another note it’s not hard to see why Palace are struggling, think our strongest 11 will batter them next month.
Was a good opportunity to get minutes in the legs for a lot of players. Slightly disappointed we made so many changes though. Had a real chance to go far in this competition. There's something wrong when finishing 4th is more valuable than winning a trophy but it is what it is. UTV
Could not care less about the result. Mings and Kamara got minutes and looked great. They're class acts. This was an opportunity for a few players to show the manager they should be in the first team. Buendia didn't impress. He could be gone in the summer. Bailey had another shit show, he'll be gone in the summer. I thought Nedjelkovic looked bright. He's a hell of a prospect, but not quite there yet.
I've defended Bailey when he hasn't played well, saying he has moments that lead to goals. And that was true today. HOWEVER, it is getting increasingly hard for me to make that argument. His overall play has been dreadful. He needs to focus on beating his man and getting assists, not goals.
Okay whatever, I don't care at this point. Another one! Nedeljković is only 18 and he is borderline starting material. The kid is way more talented than Philogene, who people think is the next Vinicius Junior. Emery did an amazing job locking up Nedeljković. Trust me when I say this, Nedeljković is in Emery's future squad.
Well at least you boys turned up, not sure if all our players did! great to see Mings & Kamara back & McGinn & Durán put in an ok performance … not much going on after that, bit flat…. Still at least we don’t have to play Arsenal … Keep going boys .. hope we put in a real performance against Spurs… clear what Emery is looking at. Said it before we still Lack a little more quality players at the back, need another keeper if Olsen goes & another quality player attacking right, other than that it’s just one of those nights of frustration & a bit of that old Villa … still smiling but I do want us to win something…
I thought Costa was good at right back but he didn’t have Bailey close enough to him to pop it off him. Keeper looked really nervous. Disappointed we didn’t have a few better options off the bench just incase. Also think as a fan base we crave a trophy and we might have to realise it won’t come putting out weak squads every time in the cups
Bumped into you on the stairs after the game, and I was so disappointed after tonight, as I felt with the players we had on the pitch, each one of them was individually capable of performing tonight. But it’s just a different story when they all start together, understandably. Happy mings and kamara got 90 mins. After listening to you mention about the B team, it doesn’t feel so bad I guess, and hard to expect too much when there has been 10 changes. On to the next one, hopefully it was worth all the resting by the time we have played spurs at the weekend 🤞 UTFV 💥💪
With the number 10 being such an important role I feel Buendia will be moved on next summer and replaced with someone better. Sadly ACL injuries are so hard to recover from and this last 14 months Villa have moved on. UTV!!
Taking the positives in Mings and Kamara but it's a disappointment to go out when a couple of wiser selections could have got us through I think. They looked lacking to be honest. But let's take the positives into the Prem and Champions League fixtures. UTV and applause to you guys for turning out with the fancam
I know Jadon is young but he’s easily knocked off the ball and overplayed at times ,I know the manager has stated his position on objectives this season but I hate loosing 😢
Emery showing disrespect to the competition . Denying our fans the experience and memories of winning a League cup . We ain't winning the league or champions league and can we win an fa Cup? ...... So what are we ....top four finish and go deep in the champions league ? .... We should go into every game wanting to win , unai may be ambitious but that tonight shows it's misdirected .
Oh sorry, one more comment now. I totally disagree about Buendia. That is on Mings and Kamara to get him the ball in space. I feel this was widely overlooked tonight. Buendia did well for what he was dealt. He plays a tough position that is very dependent on others finding you. I think Buendia should have been targeted much much more this game.
Lost the ball outside of our box seen that bad pass last 2 years .thought jaden and Bailey could not hold the ball emi the same .missed a chance to win a cup .mings left and right back looked good . Duran looked like a good striker .plus bench onto good enough to change it .wasted opportunity.
Don't think emery will be to bothered that we have gone out of the cup. The premier league and champions league is his priority. The wait for a trophy goes on.
Meh result I expected not disappointed at all id be disappointed if it was the FA Cup lessens the game load for us mins in the legs of Kamara mings (bloody brilliant tonight btw )Buendia Duran with a great finish onwards and upwards UTV! 💜💙
Uni set us up to lose this game that was obvious! The subs at the end said it all …. League and champions league is his priority…. I’m disappointed would of been our best chance at silver wear
Don't get why he even bothered to start (and risk) mcginn at all, after the seeing the substitutions emery made when we needed a goal. The game was cryin out for ramsey to come on for buendia and even cash for jaden but both unused subs. Best chance of a trophy this season. Gone.
The more games the likes of Spurs and Newcastle can have to catch us up the better. Shame Chelsea are out even though they have enough players to cope with 100 games. Us, Chelsea and City all weakened their sides and went out. Spurs Newcastle Man Utd and Palace went full strength and remain in it. That should tell people where the priorities are for all these clubs.
Thought ned right back was quite good kamara mings that's good micky mouse cup we got alot of touh games to come happy to be out of this one half pace freindly players rested bring on the spurs utv
Palace went full strength. We didn’t. Tottenham went full strength and lost two players. We have a really important week ahead. Winning the league cup gets you 2 million. We’ll get that if we beat Brugge.
Poor second half lost us that game although we wouldn’t beat Arsenal playing like that should have got some of the first team on the bench ready for half time .Bailey was poor again
I'm fuming! I want to win this cup, I want to win a cup! I don't want to hear that it's only the League Cup it doesn't mean anything, it does mean something, because we had a good chance to win this competition, and we've absolutley blown it away 😠😠
Terrible game worst game for Villa this season midfielders was all over the place defensively poor performance it was a shitshow. Yes we got B Team on but these players most come on for subs but today embarrassing game!!!
First of all, what was with the stupid TV angle tonight? I thought I was watching from a league 2 stadium. Positive - Mings had a solid game, still has that speed Worring having two CB's with heading their best quality getting beat in the air often Luke I know you like to be positive especially with young or academy players but I'm sorry Philogene just isn't it. He may do a job defending but he offers absolutely zero in the attacking. Haven't seen a single game were my mind has changed. Bailey poor again, he's fallen off a cliff but he gets added time for what he's done in the last 2 years This game needed a Barkley it's what we lacked, him in that game tonight and we win
Tbh beens our team was not the strongest I should been strong enough but the bench what let us down nothing no to offer what shows unai didn’t have his heart on this game he would of tuck a w and wanted the w but he gave players good minutes so yea
Mostly just a big shrug of a game. Losing is never fun but glad no one got hurt and the young players and players coming back from injury got time which was the most important thing for the game. Carlos had another Carlos game and yeah im no expert but seemingly Gauci should have done better with those goals. Never a bad thing to cut fixture congestion, this cup would have been cool but it was at best 4th priority, its a competition which shouldn't exist anymore.
Mings and Kamara did really well tonight... I got worried when i saw Mings limping though... 🤔
I think it's left me with more questions than answers around how strong our squad actually is. I know the 3 are coming back from long term injuries but those aside, the rest showed nowhere neat enough hunger or desire to stake a claim for a 1st team place for me. Philogenes decision makings sometimes frustrates me so much because he's clearly so talented but he always makes the wrong choice
Part of me is angry that we've gone out with a whimper, but then I look at the Champions League table...
Last minute of ET we had a free kick on the half way line. Rather than getting everyone in the box and Gauci launching it in, we played backwards keeping possession?!

I'm fed up with us getting knocked out the League Cup and FA Cup every year!
Agree lads. Buendia on borrowed time now.
We overpaid massively for him but never mind. Club has moved on. He was never a 35 million quid player. He was a 12-15 mill quid player.
It's fucking shameful how we approach the League Cup and FA Cup. We have got what we deserve for the lack of respect!
I was convinced we’d lose because there’s a strange predictability about cup fixtures like this we should be winning.

But was great to see Kamara and mings back
A Carlos mistake yet again cost us. Sadly, every once in a while (?) he keeps becoming the liability at the back.
Not to fussed really still got fa cup and still in cl.and 4th thats wot it is all about finishing 4th again cups will come soon

Worring having two CB's with heading their best quality getting beat in the air often
Luke I know you like to be positive especially with young or academy players but I'm sorry Philogene just isn't it. He may do a job defending but he offers absolutely zero in the attacking. Haven't seen a single game were my mind has changed.

And Bailey....he has until xmas and his position will be gone
Mings still not it for me
I said the same thing before he got injured … then he got injured and looked at the stats.
We hardly won a game
@ he was poor today made the mistakes I expected. We’ve done fine without him
@@avfc2025 imagine someone not being up to speed on their first full game after a year .
Ridiculous and he was ok considering
Pau Torres missed tonight . Baily still on Holidays .
@ don’t worry you’ll be moaning in a few weeks no doubt
Just a run out for squad players. Carlos and Philogen beyond poor.
Carlos is hit and miss… he’s had some crazy through balls in the last couple games that led to assists
If Carlos played for Palace he would have got an assist tonight. Such a frustrating player when he is not up for it, silly costly mistakes!
@@Paul-vl2wg very frustrating, too much of a liability for me.
I was happy when he was supposed to go at the start of the season
jaden bang average tonight
Woeful upfront
Woeful at the back
Gk is trash
Bailey seems to have forgotten how to play football! He must be dropped.
We would of got Arsenal away in the draw
not sure that's how it works
