NTFS Drives do not work for proton and steam This is a known issue
CachyOS is still installed this was done on another NVME.
I am currently using a NTFS drive for proton and Steam on Debian 12. Works like a charm.
@@Mattscreative so does this mean if I have nobara 40 installed on a separate drive, and then have another NVMe that is set to NTFS for just games, as I have both windows and Linux, should I just partition the drive and have it set to another type?
What causes Fedora to freeze sometimes during shutdown? I have an I7 6700k
All my games are on NTFS drives, but I do remember having some issues with it before using Bottles for Steam that might be it.
Yes they are. I'm calling skill issue. Use something like ntfs-3g, fuse or something. Been sharing my games between my windows and arch setup for years now.
Thank you for your work, very useful. I follow your instructions and now nobara runs perfectly. You rocks
wicked!! and thanks for the nice comment
I told someone on discord 5mins ago id rather wait for new isos and then bam: Your video.
@@luttinbuck413 bahaha thats epic!!
Exact same thing!
I love your channel and your thoughts about Bazzite, you are not afraid to express them, and I completely agree with you on this issue
thank you very much
Hey Matt, just wanted to leave a comment appreciating your calm and interesting videos. I also love you down to earth way of thinking when it comes to using Linux and not going to any extremes. Keep it up, man!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you for the video, you saved me a lot of time and mental energy 😘
Considering the move from win 11 to nobara I’ve got a 14900k 4090 with 2x2tb wd sn850x and a 4tb sn850x , how is the scheduler? Am I going to have a mess with things supposed to be on P cores running on E cores vice versa? Thanks for a fellow Canadian
Hey man your video is very useful, I like your recommendations for the system and apps. Saludos desde Rep. Dominicana
Appreciate it!
Another question I have: I avoided gnome even on xorg days because it's laggy. I feel like KDE is the way to go for smooth and low latency experience but I wanted to know if gnome at least improved that. Also I'd like to see more about the entusiastic side of PC gaming like the latency side when using gamepads and keyboard when compared to windows. The diference in using a ZEN kernel for example and other things. I see a lot of yt videos about this on yt but none for linux...
Also, HDR is something I want to know more about on Linux. Thanks!
Performance in gnome is still worse in my experience. I also am not a fan of the default setup so have to grab extensions for it to make it somewhat more usable. KDE out of the box is smoother.
Performance of gnome and KDE is 1:1 no difference also use wayland X11 is dead next release also the zen kernel is ass
I am trying to install the official KDE version using a bootable USB. However, when I try to boot into the USB, it stops at "Launching "EFI'BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI" giving the following error: "Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, _ TAB lists possible comnand completions, Anywhere else TAB Iists possible device or fi le completions."
Any solutions?
Nobara does not support Secure Boot. You have to disable it from your BIOS settings before you boot
I'm kinda surprised. GE's distro doesn't come with Proton GE already 🙂
Well, seeing as you have to start steam first so that the folders are made that proton ge goes into kinda makes that impossible
Damn! I've not used Linux as a daily driver since Ubuntu 12.04...
Finally looking to move over my gaming PC from Win11 with this release.
I fully moved to linux after having it as a side kick for 25 years and so far it’s been amazing
@@Mattscreative Btw your "boost 555 NVIDIA drivers performance!" video in the description is marked as private.
saving this for next week. looking forward to trying nobara.
i installed zorin this morning and gonna try it for a week.
goodluck!
Thank you so much for this, now we finally have both arch and fedora installation guide from you.
Well to be fair cachyos and nobara but yes i also did fedora 39/40 and arch linux gaming from scratch as well
Halifax!! What what! I am in Kentville!
Looking forward to giving this one a spin. I used to use Manjaro. loved how easy that one is to setup a lot of things and run but have been leaning more towards Fedora 40 lately very simple a lot of the games I play seem to work fine on it. however since you posted this video I am actually looking in to see how well this one performs running my Intel GPU 770 16gb. (Fedora 40 handles it quite well.)
Manjorno is a bad apple in linux
@@Mattscreative probably is now I haven't used it in a couple of years.
Hello, is cachyos better than nobara I'm also having a problem with nobara, and I don't think it's nobara's fault . The screen resolution cannot be raised above 1024 × 768 and I do not have a graphics card. My device works with an Intel Core i3 12100 processor with integrated graphics. Is there a solution to this problem
I started using because of you...Thank you...
i have a question tho... i usually use white sur theme but it doesn't work well with nobara ,can you help me out?
If you’re having any issues report it to the theme maker
@@Mattscreative Alright Sir ...Thank you
Hi Matt. You have a video where you show how to install CachyOS kernel on another distro. On don't recall wich one it is. Can you point me in the right one? Thanks.
This was wonderful, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So curious why you chose to go to GitHub on firefox and download software instead of using software store? Did nobara 40 does something to the gnome software that makes it not viable?
i don't want flatpaks for the things i installed
@@Mattscreative gotcha. Thanks.
How difficult is it to connect to my wireless Xbox Elite 2 controller via adapter on Nobara?
Amazing video, thank you.
Question, is there any way to run Faceit anticheat using Nobara or any other linux?
Not that I know of
Great detailed video!
TH-cam is not good for support but Nobara discord is
Mine only does circles and then shut off. Plenty of error messages. Nobara was always a tough cookie to install on my PC. I don't know why he doesn't like it.
For me GNOME is less stable than KDE '-'
Doubtful but ok
Looks like a kde man
any reason why my nobara installer opens up every time i log in even though i’ve clearly installed/rebooted, also doesn’t save my settings like my monitor config…
Go to the discord
I only use btrfs if I can. It’s been a life saver a few times for sure.
It was going well until you said that Gnome is more stable than KDE. I’ve been using KDE for a very long time with no issues at all.
That's a you issue more then anything but meh I can't lie or pretend issue don't happen I prefer to be more honest
Downloads keep failing.I't won't download.
when are you doing a beginner series for windows users
@@pikachusolu1606 when windows stop being a complete piece of shit
@@Mattscreative lmao. i meant linux beginner series for windows users 😂
I already have a ton of them check my playlist linuxguides cause there’s no difference between a beginner and a Windows beginner everybody starts in the same place all you need is patience and comprehension and common sense
I updated to Nobara 40 from 39 with the guide you made two weeks ago or so. Am I ok or should I install Nobara 40 again according to this video? Sorry, I am a noob and I don't know if it would make a difference. I have been regularly updating my system with Nobara's updater. Thanks for your tutorials and help!
If your on nobara 40 already your don’t need to reinstall
@@Mattscreative Excellent.
Also, what would be the easiest way to move from KDE to GNOME? Thanks!
I have a video on that also
@@Mattscreative I'll look for it. Thanks!
Thank you Matt. This will come in handy when I have overcome my fear of ditching my perfect ubuntu 24.04 setup, which does not include the latest Nvidia Driver. Still on 535 and I have no clue how to install the 555 manually.
what is the problem? When installing at the language selection stage, nothing happens, that is, I selected the language and the button is no longer active, I cannot install...
Head to the nobara discord lol
@@Mattscreative discord is silent
Awesome video! I am using mint BUT I feel it laggy with an nvidia 4070 i7 13th gen and 32 ram. Also I feel the windows boxes move so non 60hz I mean your ps move so buttery smooth. Thank you
That i3 is holding your entire system back and mint is as well … use cachyos or nobara for the best nvidia experience
@@Mattscreative hello, I have an i7. Eventhough it lags. :(
Only thing I couldn't fix was Mangohud/Goverlay, perhaps due to flatpak versions but I give up too easily. :/
@@Nostalgimannen don’t use flatpak steam or mangohud or goverlay … use native apps
Watching your videos makes me stick to gnome and im glad it did, good job and keep up the good videos.. Greetings from Malaysia..
Glad to hear it!
dude love ur vids
Thank you!
I liked this Linux and tried it recently but it was Nobara 39, but I was having an issue with the drives magically changing drive letter/location every reboot breaking all apps installed on other drives like steam games and lutris games, I assume I missed a check box or something during install... didn't feel like trying to resolve the issue and reverted back to arch. .. I did see something about dynamic disks possibly being the reason drive letters were changing.
Linux doesn’t use drive letters and locations don’t change either it’s forced in place in fstab
@@Mattscreative Yes well paths to installed games kept changing, drive name would move from nvme3n1p2 to nvme1n1p1 for example and the game would stop working until I manually changed it in lutris or steam to the new thing it changed to, WHY it was doing that I have no idea because it works fine in arch, it always stays the same, no weird moving paths. Other than that issue I liked Nobara it did a lot of things better.
Wait, shader cache don't need to be on o nVidia too? This isn't the think steam does before runing a game?
ya you can disable it for all gpus
how to dual boot with windows?
Weird I did everything then rebooted and my windows install was there, I’ll try again later
I have to drives 😂
Thx for the vid
yall need to know what work out of the box means!! ive had the worst time tring to get my nvidia and net card working and its constantly crashing!
Thats a you issue an odd duck out type thing
@@Mattscreative Plus he doesn't really say what he's doing or what he has that is causing the crash, to many users keep doing that and makes troubleshooting hard.
To get the kde widgets would the command be the same $ flatpak install widgets ? Sorry new to all this.
No man now I gotta make another video … I’m watching you
@@Mattscreative lol im trying to learn. Started Nobara 39 a few weeks back and updated to 40 last night but, there is so much I still need to learn.
@@NJ-wb1cz thank you
nice video, do you have any fix or workaround for firefox crashing under wayland?
it's fixed in firefox 128
@@Mattscreative ty!
did you removed cachy os completely which was installed yesterday??
Nope it’s on another nvme
@@Mattscreative did you installed cachy kernal on it?
In nobara my nvidia card is not even showing even if i have drivers installed
Sounds like a skill issue use the nvidia iso for install and head to the nobara discord for help
@@Mattscreative I am using nvidia iso
Again head to the nobara discord these videos are not a support forum
Is there a difference between the stability of gnome on fedora or archlinux based distros?
For some reason, Fedora feels just a tad smoother when it comes to gnome
@@Mattscreative Could be placebo , Arch has the aur , you can't beat it
Well, you kinda can actually you see you can use the AUR on fedora and pacman also it just takes some work
@@Mattscreative Yeah you can with distrobox , but ain't no body got time for that
No you don’t need distrobox … how is this not know sudo dnf in pacman …
I freakin' love your videos man! Love your explainings and your peaceful voice
I appreciate that! Getting a few dumb comments as of late so thank you really
whats better to pick sawp file or swap hibernate ?
that's a user choice
Awesome video! Is gnome better for everyday use? I know KDE 39 seems a little buggy..
Yes, definitely better
What theme do use in you distro ❤
@@AlaaSaidAhmad I go over that in the video
@@Mattscreative thanks brother
Bit Locker encryption issue while installing the OS . ! but I'm not able to get the bit locker key and got stucked ... What to do ?
No idea I don’t touch bitlocker
Did you have Windows dual booted or previously installed? If so, and you did not disable bitlocker encryption, put it plainly, you're fucked. Gotta get a new drive.
Anyone got the black screen after reboot ?? new HD clean install ..
@@vincesundara8579 go to the nobara discord for support
Nice video! So now we need a comparison nobora 40 vs cachyos
Rather not I wouldn’t do a good job
I've off on Linux for year's just waiting for Nvidia driver's be very Solid but I use my other Computer on Linux because that's my daily driver computet
Well nvidia is 99% fixed now
Very cool.
Cool
cool
Nobara is so cool but MAN I can't live without the AUR anymore... it's too convenient...
funny thing you can use the aur on fedora and pacman
@@Mattscreative say whaaaaaaat
@@alliceazure5389probably distrobox, if it is there is a gui frontend you can download from it.
No, not from distro box
don’t do what I’m about to type
sudo dnf in pacman
@@Mattscreative didn't know you could install pacman directly from fedora repos, I wonder if/how it works natively on your system. Anyway, installing AUR packages through distrobox is also a possibility, I don't see the point on why my comment was deleted.
Hey i appreciate this video, but just giving my honest feedback as a newcomer.
also, to nip it in the bud to any grammar nazi's, yes yes i know,
I have severe dyslexia and it took me years to get to this point and i dont need you being an asshole. pls go away if you arent responding to me to help and just want to be a dick.
with that out of the way:
The video mostly helped but, you skip over a lot of stuff and go a little too fast. i followed everything on here and theres various small issues i dont know why or what i did to cause them. such as, the windows dont even have a maximize button anymore.
a lot of times you say "click here" but dont actually slow down and explain where you are going and clicking.
you also gloss over afew things such as even just opening terminal, i didnt even know where you got that from.
Shift + does not seem to work on terminal to scale the font up and down anymore either it seems, hardly your fault but just wanted to mention
also your command to install flatpak only worked when i added sudo, dunno how or why you didnt need to do that.
anyways, i still found this video informative this is just some constructive feedback. you are far from the only one that goes a little too fast and gloss over thigns so i had to bring this up. if we want this community to grow we still got a ways to go here in terms of new comvers and usability.
dont assume anything, slow down and really explain everything and i do mean EVERYTHING slowly and explain and telegraph every single last command and action.
it may seem annoying to someone who knows what they are doing but these videos arent made for them, its meant for new users like myself.
thanks and keep up the good work
kde.
No thanks I don’t do buggy desktop environments
@@Mattscreative nvm bro kde is actually ass all over
Haha ya
@@Mattscreative i'd only be concerned over latency issues though
this is NOT begninner friendly LMAO
Weird it works for everyone else …
@@Mattscreative i dont understand how you got to 2:48.. you need prior knowledge to be able to do that
You’re telling me you don’t know how to boot an ISO and because of that it's not beginning friendly? Oh my God explained making the boot able USB and next just read your motherboard manual find out which key opens the boot menu for my laptop it's f12 for my desktop it's f11 but it's different for each motherboard.
@@Mattscreative unc crashing out im dead
Couldn't do most of that, why is my rpm always not showing up and can't open apps like windows barely know how to install
weird cause it can all be done! you could be Linux cursed
@@Mattscreative na it's me, Im over whelmed I got got helpin me but I could. Get the whitesur pack? And do I have to install app from now on or I'm just doin it wrong
you need to slow down and breathe you’re not on a time limit this is just an OS try to make it into a peaceful experience that no matter what you do it’s never really broken because you can just easily do the right command and fix it. Slow down, breathe breathe out have some patience and you will get to where you wanna be. We all had to learn windows at one point and this is just the same thing. Also, for whitesur you just git clone it and then you basically ./install.sh -l
Tf did I just watch, idk how to install this shit
correction then what the fuck didn’t I watch? Because if you watched it you would know how to install it.
my ntfs sandisk drive works fine in linux
That was about gaming and it’s a known issue
@Mattscreative no i meant my steam games play fine off my ntfs drive. I had halo mcc running on arch with the ntfs drive the same drive i use under windows. Was using proton ge with prime-run on my gaming laptop.
