- Street scenes of yesterday's Orsogna a small town in the Abruzzo area of Italy. Many of the towns original inhabitants migrated to America and settled in the Astoria Queens County New York. In fact in order to hear the original Orsognese dialect you can only hear it in Astoria as the town in Italy no longer speaks Orsognese.
Thank you for this introduction to Orsogna. My father's mother, Adelina DiRico, was born in Orsogna. She came to the States at the age of 1 with her older sister and parents, Giuseppe DiRico and Katerina Ciancio, before World War I and settled in Everett, Boston, MA.
She did the best thing ever moving away from this little, boring town called Orsogna

My mom was born in orsogna her family settled in Everett Ma as well. I would have loved if you had walked the streets and told the history. My mom passed away in 1981 She didn't have the opportunity to revisit. I was going to when I retired, but I was diagnosed with ALS so that and anything else I ever dreamed of doing is gone.
What was your mothers name? My wife Elizabeth was born in Orsogna and has(had) relatives in Everett. Sorry to hear about your ALS. My mother had it for some time. A bit of advice? Make your desires known! My mother did not causing much unneeded family strife. We did not know her wishes and she could not tell us.

Great Video Tom! I am Tom's cousin! I am sorry that I only just saw this! I am immediately passing it along to my children and hopefully in perpetuity. I remember going to the Orsogna Club in Astoria Queens NY as a little boy with my Dad-- Saverio Tenaglia. I now have a grandson with a middle name of Saverio-- and life goes on!

My grandfather Gaetano Ciancio was married to Maria Tenaglia. I don't know which one because all three sisters were Maria Tenaglia with different middle names. Gaetano had a brother Luigi. Their father was Quirino Ciancio and was married to Adelaide Silveri. I have been to Orsogna. It is a lovely town!

What s your father's name and what street did he live on. My wife was born in Orsogna and she still has some relatives living there. Me.........I was born in Brooklyn.

My family from there is the Di Maria familia (forgive misspell it's my grandmothers side and am not sure if I spelt it right.)
@Choochamania11 My wife recognizes your fathers name and she says that you may be related. Her name was Elizabeth Tenaglia before she married me. Also, she may have met your parents at Zia Bambina's wake. Her fathers name was Giuseppe Tenaglia and his wifes name was Maria (Mastrocola). It's a small world.
PS: I went to Google Earth and tried to find the street your father lived in ( Via Vignaioli) but could not find it.
Now that is a problem for me. But I will try.
