These kind of verbal walkthroughs are so important for people like me who mostly have free time only when they're commuting. I can't read through an adventure while I'm driving. But I can listen to someone talk through it for me. I'm definitely going to run this adventure now thanks to this video.
I cannot begin to tell you how important your videos are I don't have a lot of free time and I'm moving about throughout the day especially driving and I can listen to these videos and get an idea the day before I run something. It's very very helpful.
Short sandboxy dungeon with factions and "living" inhabitants on the move without being tough to track I think this could be a really great adventure for first timers, reminds me of what was really awesome about Sunless Citadel I also have a special weakness for magical gemstone eyes of terrible consequence. There's that old AD&D cover art, the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser story, the Skyrim Thieves Guild quest that pays homage to both, it's really evocative
Excellent ideas for running a two faction dungeon. Each primary faction gets a level of the dungeon; the presence of a lore dump npc that is also very dangerous if crossed; a Rakshasa {shapeshifter} working for the spell-casting faction as a spy. One should buy the module in respect, but steal these ideas for one's table.
I ran your Lost Leprechaun Hollow mini adventure last week at an event for some of my college students and it was a *HOOT*. You've got me excited about this one now too, I will have to pull the zine off of the shelf :)
I used to say it "dwer-gar" (like "swear"), until I saw Van Helsing, where they correctly said "DOO-er-gar." Considering I had the Dragon magazine with the pronunciation guide, and used it frequently, I should have known. But grey dwarves works. Or bad dwarves. "Bad dwarves, bad dwarves, what you gonna do..."
Yeah, the pronunciation guide was great. Too bad some notables didn't stick. I still pronounce them like that and it's still jarring to hear younger folks pronounce things like "drow" with a soft 'o'. She pronounced duergar pretty well in this one, I thought, so props.
I love the cursed scrolls! Im using them as "worlds" ( in the mario sense) that my players are portal jumping into after finishing the main quest of the one before. After finishing each main quest each "world" is open to backtrack to, so they can complete other side quests etc. Im looking forward to the release of the next scrolls.
Okay, somewhere in this dungeon, someone's going to be disguised as a car-a BARREL-that tries to only move when you're not looking at it. I know what my players want.
I can't wait to run more ShadowDarkRpg. I plan on running all of the Zines and dungeons. Excited for the 4th Zine... whenever it comes..lol. All jokes aside take your time. It will be awesome!
Love the eyes of the iron golem intrigue - can just see the PCs becoming power brokers if they can get them. The rebellion option too - lots of PC agency. When I started watching this - I thought 'oh no, a dungeon crawl, yawn' - but glad I watched on as the adventure looks really open with shed loads of roleplaying (as well as combat of course).
@ So that’s the secret! Just got your book by the way. Love the over all quality of the book. Looking forward to try out Shadowdark as GM with my regular DnD group. Cheers.
Interesting. 🤔 I've had the same gong idea that's present in this dungeon since the 90s. 😊 It's very different tho. Just placing this comment here for posterity.
I've been really enjoying these videos :) I do have a questions. How the heck do you manage the party when the torches go out? I recently ran a gauntlet, and the party got washed down a water filled tunnel and their torch went out. They actually managed to get all the way back to the beginning of the dungeon (even with rolling a random encounter ever round as it counts as deadly in the dark. They almost encountered a nesting chimera :) almost ) I could use some more guidance on how best to manage true darkness. Any recommendations?
For sure! :) I would give them disadvantage on... well, pretty much everything. I would also have them moving at half speed and automatically setting off any mechanical traps they encounter! And I would most likely modify room descriptions so they have no idea what hazards/threats are really in them.
Hmmmmmm, that's not good! We finished fulfillment a few months ago. Definitely send an email to contact@thearcanelibrary.com so we can sort out what happened!
No one hunts like Gaspar, no one jumps like Gaspar!
Hahahahaaaa! Now I just need to get him a crew of lackeys who sing his theme song...

Thank you so much! :) I'm never sure how helpful these are, so hearing it was useful means a lot to me.
I loved running through this adventure as a player! Thank you for the creator’s eye view of the inner workings.
I love your adventure walkthroughs - great detail, advice, and insight. I know not everyone learns this way, but I do!

I love to watch videos like this so I can learn to design adventures.
This makes running the adventure so much better. Thank you!
such a simple premise and yet so elegantly delivered. I love Shadowdark =)
My player's characters will never live long enough to get to level 4-6. 😅
Love these walkthroughs! And this is my fav of the dungeons you've published. Cant wait to run this one!! ⭐️
I've been running Shadowdark for a class at my school for about a year now. I just got this zine for the Pitfighter class and the kids are LOVING it!
Great walkthrough with plenty of cool advice. All of the Curse Scrolls have been excellent.

Loved to Run that adventure! Awesome to hear all the Insight about it !
Looking forward to checking this out thoroughly!
These walk throughs are so helpful. Love seeing more Shadowdark from the Library here on the tubes.
Lots of options to work with. All very cool. I appreciate your work. Keep safe.

Oooh. That outro sign was awesome!

I'm really hoping we can get a look at those Shadowdark Solo rules soon!
props to the NWN avatar pic

Good dungeon crawls have that nuance. Bad dungeon crawls are just a series of combat encounters in adjoining rooms
@@xavierp7658 Exactly.
I’m glad you gave it a chance! Thank you so much! 😊
You said it correctly. Good job.
Good to see you back on here, and thank you for making this video.
Gaspar is one of my favorite NPC names.
If the players throw a ball, will the hell hounds chase after it?
I think it's almost guaranteed!
This sounds like a really cool adventure!
I would love to see a video on converting 5e content over to Shadowdark. Like all your 5e content :)
I love all the intrigue!
Gotta have that intrigue! 😃
Hey😊 What software do you use to write and set up your adventures? You get them to look so neat and structured!
I write them directly into Adobe InDesign! I find it helps so much in getting things lined up and making the text look crisp. :)
@ So that’s the secret! Just got your book by the way. Love the over all quality of the book. Looking forward to try out Shadowdark as GM with my regular DnD group. Cheers.
Really can't wait to get a german version an run your adventures for my friends :)❤

I’m glad to see the threat of a gong is a time-vetted idea!
New to shadowdark. What does it mean levels 1-3 or 2-5. Is it a challenge thing like hard to easy
It’s a challenge thing! The adventure is written for characters of that level range.
You know, i had an idea for an adventure in hell. Was doing some work on it, but this might work better
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'... You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. Gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. 😉
Love these videos 🎉🎉

When should i expect my shadowdark pre-order to arrive? I thought yall fled the country 😂

0:28 It's pronounced doo-bee-doo-gaar.
Totally canon.
Hahahahahaaaa! Of course, it makes perfect sense! ;)
I've always pronounced it "door-gar." I'm sure that's not remotely correct, but alas, I'm too old to change 😄
Yeees!!
Hello world!
