  • We last sold this quick, exceptional driving Triumph TR6 six years ago to one of our regular customers over the Yorkshire Wolds in Driffield. Over this time, the TR6 has covered over 4000 miles and taken part in many TR6 club events and rallies. The Triumph has proven an absolute delight to own and the car having had in the region of £20,000 spent prior to taking ownership, the most recent owner has spent a further £3500 on the car to include regular servicing, re-trimming the hard top (included in the sale) and some detailed paintwork.
    The TR6 has a really impressive specification to include gas-flowed cylinder head, high lift fast road cam, triple Dellorto carburretor conversion, stainless steel manifold and exhaust, oil cooler conversion, Kenlowe fan, adjustable shocks, solid steering rack mounts plus front and rear anti-roll bar mounts. In 2014 prior to selling to the last owner, the engine was fully stripped down and rebuilt with new pistons, new main and big end bearings, re-ground crankshaft and various new seals and gaskets. New core plugs were fitted, new clutch kit and the cooling system refurbished as required. The engine has done over 4000 miles since rebuild. The triple carbs were fully rebuilt, and a new electronic ignition system fitted. The TR6 suspension was poly bushed and both the suspension and braking system fully re-commissioned.
    In early 2014, the TR was also stripped down and treated to a full outer re-paint, internal main floors and boot floor were also prepared and re-painted and the interior then re-fitted with brand new carpets, re-trimmed seats, new spare wheel cover, new Moto-Lita steering wheel and brand new hood. Various trims, rubbers and gaskets were replaced, the wheels re-painted and a brand-new front bumper fitted. Once this program of work was completed, the car was put into summer use and has proven perfectly reliable, fantastic fun to own and drive, and returns to us further improved having had the hard top re-furbished. The last owner has also given us a new wood veneer finish dashboard and new chrome gauge bezels as this was to be his next cosmetic job on the car. We will fit these parts within the sale price.
    We know the recent history, the huge expenditure and the fact the car has been a true delight for the last owner over six years. Going further back into the car's history, we know the TR6 was in the State of Indiana 35 years ago. We have paperwork from the Indiana Commissioner and a photo of the car, still in its Dark Blue paint finish back in 1985. The TR6 came over to the UK and was registered here in 1991 and the comprehensive history file retains an invoice from the Northern TR Centre for £1514.51 for a professional LHD to RHD conversion. Various restoration invoices are on file from the early 1990's including a re-conditioned gearbox and overdrive unit and it would seem the car arrived into the UK in very good order, only requiring some light mechanical work, bodywork and cosmetics. The TR6 was then put into use and from 1991 to 2007 the car covered 17,500 miles when it was then laid up until the major expenditure in 2014.
    SHH 52M is a great buy, it's a real driver's car and its set up superbly. The engine is quick, responsive, sounds terrific and offers excellent performance with superb oil pressure. The overdrive gearbox is slick to use, the car changes up and down the box smoothly, the overdrive comes in perfectly and the car handles incredibly well, particularly the rear end having all been rebuilt in 2014. This is an ideal summer touring car and would be a brilliant car for long distance and endurance driving. Adding to the strong mechanical condition, the body is lovely and straight, the paint finish is of a high standard with just a few minor blemishes which we will remedy prior to delivery. The interior is very clean and well presented having had some re-trimming. The recently re-trimmed hard top comes with the car too, making this is a superb all-round package.

    I've owned a '70 and a '73. And oh how I lived them ! This one is a real gem.
    Nothing has a better sound than the exhaust note of a TR 6.

      You haven't driven much then or the TR6 any great distance! Had one from new in '72 - Uncomfortable, Poor Build Quality, Handled like a pig at speed on bends etc etc and as for the fuel injection, I won't even go into that.

      Great setup, but go quickly out of adjustment and balance. Many folks revert to 2 SUs after long-time frustration with 3 DCOEs.

      Totally wrong, that carb set up will use a lot more fuel than the fuel injection and take some serious work to get them to run poperly. There was nothing wrong with the fuel injection providing it is set up correctly. I have never had a TR6, however my dad had a PI when they were current and I had two when they were not. The reason the fuel injection was not used in the States is the emissions were not stringent enough on the set up. No matter what the author wishes to infer this is the reason. Triple dual choke carbs would not have met the American exhaust emissions either. The Jensen Healey had to go to America with CD175 Zenith Strombergs instead of dual side-draught twin-throat Dell'Orto DHLA carburettors (similar to Weber DCOE carburettors but with improved progression circuits). That TR6 is one dirty car emissions wise. The original fuel injection in my view is a far better bet.

    Lovely example. In 1980 had chance to buy a 1970 TR6 for £850. Frightened off by boss's previous TR5 injection issues went for a GT6. Oh for a time machine and wedge of £50 notes...

    always thought the terminology was "British Sports car".....as opposed to "English" Sports car? I mean it is not a Welsh, Scottish or Irish sports car either, but I like the term "British"

    • @Classicandsportscar1
      @Classicandsportscar1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Either will do. The label 'Made in England' used to be a symbol of quality and durability.

      Re-imported and converted for UK use. Some of the most solid restoration projects are ex U.S. dry State cars,

      Ah yes, the late 1970s! I had one of the last Cowley-Built TR7s as an Austin Rover Dealer in 1982. TR7 build quality Cowley v Speke was a different standard altogether. I liked mine.

      In 1975 I went to the dealership to purchase a new TR6. I always loved that car. Unfortunately the dealership had the brochure for the new TR7. There were no actual cars in the state yet and I let him convince me into purchasing one. I actually got one of the very first ones delivered to the dealership. It was delft blue. Probably the worst car I have ever owned. To this day I still regret not getting the TR6.
