The helmet could be partly 16th century. Helmets would often get repaired and adjusted to fit the ever changing fashion, so an original 16th century forged helmet will often have several adjustments from later periods. It is extremely rare to find such an old piece of equipment that hasn't been tinkered with at all.
tinkered with 300 years later? I find that highly unlikely. looks to me like the whole thing was absolutely made as a reproduction in the 19th century.
@@gordonlekfors2708 no not tinkered with 300 years later, tinkered with when it was still in use every 5 or 10 years until a leap in design or metalurgy comes along making the helmet obsolete.

Dude walks in: “Hey I have this dead wombat from a historic battle in Slovakia during the year 2034, do you think I could get $12 for it?” Rick: “Yeah hold on lemme call my buddy over here, he knows everything about this stuff.”
Nice plan, made the Pawn star comfortable with you and then offers high price. It works so well as Rick was filled with joy as that person lends his helmet to Rick.

actually bolts were invented in 400 AD. during the 16th century Davinci used bolts frequently in a lot of his inventions. The bolts become improved upon BY davinci and shared that knowledge so he wasn't the one who needed to make it. Historically during that time I wouldn't be surprised if a nobleman paid the extra price for a bolt that was more high quality. But the other points I understand. No doubt it's victorian.

A self professed dealer in antique arms and armor didn't notice the giant out of place bolt or bother removing it before trying to sell it... Wow, didn't fool the real expert and it's funny how Rick says he has a buddy in everything in this business and lends more credence to calling the show "Let me call a buddy" 😂😂😂

As the guy buying the armor, you have to wonder what your chances are of buying an authentic helmet from a dealer at a reproduction price (near zero). If the dealer (who knows more about the subject matter than you) is not selling it for $30K, then you're not going to sell it for $30K. There's always a chance that he could sell you a $500 helmet for $4500, though - that'd be much more likely. Especially if you're a foreign customer - perfect target, because you're not going to be in the area to return it or cause trouble making a scene at the store.
"You look like a knight in shining armor"
Rick: *Looks like shrek*
Lol
I'd consider that a compliment
Armor not exactly shiny either.
I got a buddy of mine he knows a lot about this stuff.
Sir Lancelot walks in.
Lancelot: it was mine. I value it at 20 million dollars.
Rick: all I can do is 5 dollars. I’m taking all the risk.

This is a huge insult to the jousting helmet community!
Armets and close helmets were used in jousting tho, famous example is the garniture of george clifford iii currently displayed at the met
