I like Bret as a wrestler, but I also am aware enough that hes not perfect either as most on here seem to think he is. The one thing I will always admire about him is that when he had an issue with someone in the WWE, NO MATTER WHO, he wasnt scared and went up to that person and said what he felt, as a man. A tough man.
I don't think his biggest fans want to portray him as perfect, but just as definitely having more integrity than Vince or Shawn since a lot of Shawn apologists in particular try to attack Bret's character in order to put him at the same level of culpability for the Montreal screwjob (because these days when somebody does something wrong, instead of owning up to it, the preferred deflection is to suggest that the other side is just as bad). I've always thought Bret's side of the story was more believable but it's also obvious that he had little choice but to go back and work out a deal because of the power imbalance and not wanting his entire WWF career to be erased. And so because of Shawn's own popularity and Vince's position at the top he had little choice but to go along with the vague pretense that nothing truly devious was done to him (because he deserved it somehow), that everyone involved shared responsibility (and therefore no one was responsible), and so the hatchet is buried and everything is peachy.

What he was awesome in (IMO obviously) was finishing matches and making all of his opponents look soo good eventhough they were soo shit in other matches. Bret and Owen were soo good at this.

I'm just glad that he is doing so much better these days. He has gone through so many tragedies and losses. Everyone focuses on Montreal but....there was so much more. But he made it. Even made peace with so many later. Let's focus on that. I loved him in the ring and respect him a great deal. I hope he continues to do well and that he will find some peace and closure.
Greatest wrestler of all time. Flawless psychology, peerless match-building and the best seller there ever was (fuck Shawn -- flopping around like a fish isn't selling, taking a realistic hit and carrying it off until the end of the match is selling). Bret made every match worth watching -- it didn't matter if he was at the top of the card (just look at Bret vs Piper at WM 8). Bret always had the best matches -- and he never had the same match twice. He'd put both himself and the other guy over every time. Nobody came out of a match with Bret looking weak unless he was booked into a corner. Just look at SS 97: Undertaker lost, but he hit some big spots, broke the Sharpshooter AND kicked out of a massive chair shot; even then, after he lost to another chair shot, he still got up and followed HBK to the back. He was a top five technical wrestler, the number one psychologist/match-builder of all-time, looked a million bucks for his size, killed it on the mic in 97 and was one of the most principled, honest guys behind the scenes. Taken overall, he's the best there ever was. Hogan looked better, The Rock talked better, but nobody wrestled better than Bret, and nobody was as good across the board as he was. The business declined during his era and, yes, he wasn't a MASSIVE draw, but he drew well, and in a different era he might have been equal to a Cena while delivering superb matches. The WWE fucked him hard, but he still had it in him to forgive them and come back, and I'm glad they've preserved his legacy. Still love his shoots on HBK and HHH. Even after reconciliation, the man isn't afraid to speak his mind .... "4/10"
Man listen you can love Brett but you’re delusional if you think he’s far and away the best. I’d take Chris Jericho Eddie Guerrero Kurt Angle or HBK over him all just as good if not better in ring and miles better on the mic. Let’s not get caught up in the moment because he’s the one talking.
@@fmgmack Fair enough man. Those are all phenomenal wrestlers and I wouldn't knock anyone for putting them above Bret. Personally he's my favourite. I think he was the best at constructing a match and telling a memorable story in the ring.
Great to hear this interview with Bret, wish that idiot host would just stop cutting Bret off, I'm trying to listen to the legend speak. Bret will always be the best in my view.
I agree with that he wasn't massive like warrior or hogan but 230 he was a muscular guy regular people like us saw him he'd look impressive back when bret first came in 84 to 88 when he was using a lot of steroids you can see the difference in size compared to after 1990.
Everyone calm down a bit. We're not Bret Hart or Vince McMahon, just spectators and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, seeing Bret's side - he was totally loyal, give him that credit. A huge asset to the WWF and was a devoted soldier. He earned his keep and pride. Now Vince saw from his perspective that he couldn't keep Bret for more reasons than Bret could see. The decision to "screw" Bret came with ultimatums. That 1: He couldn't walk into WCW as WWF champ (which Bret expresses he would never do.) 2: That if they pull off the Montreal screw job it would be a great piece for the storyline and the introduction of Mr. McMahon the character (further blustering the WWF) 3: That Vince would keep his integrity that if he says it has to happen then it has to happen. Now how Bret conducts himself after is a very emotional standpoint. He is hurt, he has every right to be. Vince made his decision, it's his company after all and ahs every right to do so. Now who is "right" or "at fault" for things happening the way they did - pure speculation from our standpoint as fans.
@18:20 Actually you were wrong @MichaelLansberg, there is a family that can other then the Hart's talk so much about the positive and negativeness of wrestling, That would be the Von Erich's family.
Watching wrestling as a kid I always thought it was a bit cartoonist but then I came across one of the greatest matches I've ever seen....Brett Hart versus Mr. Perfect. Poetry and motion. Thats when i realized the best wrestlers werent the tallest and didnt have the biggest muscles. They were athletic, technical, and crafty.
well, this was the bret hart of 10 years ago, I think he's definitely had a change of heart especially after watching that wwe documentary on bret hart vs shawn michaels, greatest rivalry
bret is right about the pic of the tug of war with the belt I remember on superstars or wrestling challenge on sky one at the time they advertised the wrestling magazine with that shot of the tug of war of the belt between bret and hulk but when the mag came out it was just an article of how they think bret would beat hulk because hulk went to Japan worked on the same card as sting and trashed the wwf belt compared to the Japan belt he was already planing his way out.
My best friend Andrew-Who I got interested into wrestling about 4-5 yrs ago said to me-All the matches I've ever seen of Bret "The Hitman" Hart all I can say is he is phenomenal! I said He isn't the best there is, the best there was, & the best there ever will be for nothing? Then he said to me "I wish I could have seen more of his matches but I'm gonna watch anyone someone will place in front of me."
I wonder if these ppl bashin bret realize this interview was over a decade ago and that if they know anything theyd know that bret, vince, shawn, etc has been buried and hes over it
WHATISUTUBE I actually got to go on a trip to Canada last year and had the honor of trying The Keg. Decent prices, and when you ask for a rare steak, you get it rare. Fuckin' thing was still mooing. The servers were nice, but I can't say as I felt like they were my best friends, so I'll call bullshit on that part of their ad. No complaints otherwise.
It's sad, there aren't too many real gentlemen and stand up men from the business still alive to day; So i'm always happy to see guys like Steve and Bret alive and healthy, too many got consumed by the drugs and alcohol. Not all of course; Junkyard Dog and Owen Hart's deaths were purely accidental, though still possibly the result of bad judgement but it's still sad.
What complete piffle; Hart headlined what was, until a few years ago, the highest verifiable attended wrestling show ever, SummerSlam '92. Hart offered numerous different scenarios in the lead-up to the Survivor Series, that were all turned down by McMahon. Also, if you think Hart wasn’t a draw, Michaels was EVEN WORSE; the bottom fell-out of business when he was champion over the summer of 1996.
When Vince pulled the screw job, and before that insisted Bret take the WCW offer, Vince knew wwf was headed towards a sleezy direction. Sleezy didn't fit Bret. All in all as fans we got the purest wrestling champion outta Bret that we will ever get from any champion. For that I'm grateful. For what Bret was to fans and to wrestling I'm grateful. To this day my own kids who never even saw him wrestle, my own kids enjoy Brets matches & Hitman the champion most. Above the field.
Mark my words. Somehow, someday, those SummerSlam 1993 promotional photos for Bret vs. Hogan will surface, and I will lose even more respect for Hogan.
I just said that he matured afterwards. This can be shown by the fact that after he returned, some of the people he feuded with were way beneath him ability wise, such as Chris Masters. Also, despite the fact that he was over enough to win the title more than once after his return, it was he who said that you should give it to younger guys instead

Agreed. Well said.
Love how real he is
Shawn's flopping for Hogan was classic and justified
Man listen you can love Brett but you’re delusional if you think he’s far and away the best. I’d take Chris Jericho Eddie Guerrero Kurt Angle or HBK over him all just as good if not better in ring and miles better on the mic. Let’s not get caught up in the moment because he’s the one talking.
@@fmgmack Fair enough man. Those are all phenomenal wrestlers and I wouldn't knock anyone for putting them above Bret. Personally he's my favourite. I think he was the best at constructing a match and telling a memorable story in the ring.
Brett is cool and has the courage to talk so candidly! Thanks Bret!
So sad. Bret was never the same after the stroke. He speaks very slowly now. Glad that he made it through
Great to hear this interview with Bret, wish that idiot host would just stop cutting Bret off, I'm trying to listen to the legend speak. Bret will always be the best in my view.
Hogan is a bad actor and a selfish lout who refused to put people over.
He won an Oscar and always helped Young talent break through lol
I agree
What? You obviously have not seen 'Santa With Muscles' freakin magic bro.
Bryan Manning - he's a POS.
Brets jelous cause hogan actually drew money
The Hitman in his prime was a big muscled guy for his height one of the biggest super heroes around in the wrestling world
I agree with that he wasn't massive like warrior or hogan but 230 he was a muscular guy regular people like us saw him he'd look impressive back when bret first came in 84 to 88 when he was using a lot of steroids you can see the difference in size compared to after 1990.
Brett is an awesome person. The people talking shit about him (and there are many), it reflects badly on them and not him. He's too honest for them.
I always love his motto; "The best there is the best there was and the best there ever will be"
Everyone calm down a bit.
There are few people (alive on this planet) that I respect more than Bret Hart
It's funny now, that he said he would never wrestle again, and that if he did it would be Vince. Seven years latter
@18:20 Actually you were wrong @MichaelLansberg, there is a family that can other then the Hart's talk so much about the positive and negativeness of wrestling, That would be the Von Erich's family.
Tag Team Match in 2003. Stone Cold & Bret Hart vs Vince McMahon and Eric Bishoff
Is it me or is the interviewer extremely rude?
+steve walker He's extremely nice in this interview. He's usually far worse.
yea dudes a dick
Yeah he is always pushy like this. He is even worse on most others. I find him quite annoying.
The Canadian Jim Rome ; a d-bag
It's not just you. Watch the Off The Record interview with CM Punk.
was the set in the boiler room of TSN Studios?
Man he had to be tough to fight through that stroke
This is great 🙌🏼
18:16 the host says "There's not a family who can talk about the good and bad of wrestling like you guys". Try the Von Erichs. 4 deaths, 3 by suicide.
I start watching wrestling because of this man and not about hulk macho snake this man was the real thing and he was the one
well, this was the bret hart of 10 years ago, I think he's definitely had a change of heart especially after watching that wwe documentary on bret hart vs shawn michaels, greatest rivalry
bret is right about the pic of the tug of war with the belt I remember on superstars or wrestling challenge on sky one at the time they advertised the wrestling magazine with that shot of the tug of war of the belt between bret and hulk but when the mag came out it was just an article of how they think bret would beat hulk because hulk went to Japan worked on the same card as sting and trashed the wwf belt compared to the Japan belt he was already planing his way out.
andy marfo i remember him calling the iwgp title the creme of of the crop.. He wrestled muta
Bret hart will always be the best there is best there was and the best there ever will be
My best friend Andrew-Who I got interested into wrestling about 4-5 yrs ago said to me-All the matches I've ever seen of Bret "The Hitman" Hart all I can say is he is phenomenal! I said He isn't the best there is, the best there was, & the best there ever will be for nothing? Then he said to me "I wish I could have seen more of his matches but I'm gonna watch anyone someone will place in front of me."
"Your hair is a little short." ☺☺☺☺
I wonder if these ppl bashin bret realize this interview was over a decade ago and that if they know anything theyd know that bret, vince, shawn, etc has been buried and hes over it
Love Bret truly the greatest of all time he gave everything for us fans and the business
bret hart is truly an inspiration.
BRET HART VS KURT ANGEL I WANT THIS !!!!!!!!
Who's Kurt "Angel"?
For great steaks, good friends - see you tonight!
No complaints otherwise.
the keg gave me the shits
I watch all these just to hear about the keg.different times then.
"Glad to be here."
"No one is happier to be here than me."
"My pleasure."
and 7 years later, he did make peace with shawn
Why did I smirk when Landberg said - 'You were a guy who had to put up with enormous amounts of pain in the ring?' ;-)
In all fairness, Shawn did grow up after he found God
Yay I'm Canadian!!!
I have a lot of Respect for Bret hitman Hart
I thought so too; Initially i assumed his voice got better, but at the beginning they said it was his first interview since the stroke.
Summary:
1. Bret whines about Montreal.
2. Bret whines about Owen.
3. Bret whines about Goldberg.
You're welcome.
7:28 30lbs arm????? That's an arm the size of tugboats or vaders arm
He is just giving an expression that he is larger and thicker built than the average man, you little sensitive nitpick idiot
