Who Is the Fittest on Earth?

  • “The fittest athlete on the planet is coming out of the CrossFit Games.” - Todd Widman, CrossFit Seminar Staff Flowmaster
    From their inception, the CrossFit Games have been unlike traditional sports such as track and field, gymnastics, weightlifting, or even decathlon - all specialist sports in which the events are known long in advance.
    Instead, athletes from around the world are tested against a variety of unannounced events, each intentionally varied with different movements, equipment, and time domains.
    The fittest athlete on Earth, as Chuck Carswell explains, is “the person who performs statistically best at all of the activities we test. … That’s who the fittest is.”
    The 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games start Aug. 3.

    Imo the CrossFit games really just measures who can still perform well even though you are super fatigued. It’s really a measure of who is the most able to recover and not who is the best athlete in a vacuum. Also they are very fit but so many lack actual athleticism to be able to translate their fitness into more conventional sports. When we were young I’m sure we all had friends who were great in the weight room and in conditioning tests etc but on the playing field just were not a standout. I remember a coach would refer to these types of athletes “looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane.” I have alot of respect for what these CrossFit athletes can do and it’s fun to watch but there is a reason they are doing this and not in a professional sports league.

    I remember back in one of the early day Games (2011 or 2012) CrossFit had a throwing test and it was surprising to see how many threw so poorly. Crossfit tests a lot of modalities so I'm curious what new thing they'll bring out that no one is expecting? Kind of like when they first introduced legless rope climbs, the peg board, or the pig v.1.
    .
    In response to Bozman, if anyone is fitter that you don't know about it's likely because they choose not to showcase themselves. The world is a big place and probably in some remote corner of it, there is someone no one has heard of that's capable of doing next level things. This individual has no social media presence, no one in their sphere of influence cares about social media, and they have nothing to prove to anyone. But I wouldn't be surprised if one or more exists. They don't need to show the world anything. It's not that important to them nor is it important for anyone to see them.

    • @RebeccaEWebber
      @RebeccaEWebber ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep wondering if they'll ever do something like rock-climbing. Also, love your response. There are some incredibly hardworking people who put in a ton of manual labor each day, are probably super fit, maybe not trained.

      It is to subjective to declare somebody "the fittest on earth". Depends on what are you measuring. For example decathletes......probably decathletes are faster, can jump higher and longer, have more running endurance, etc...... like I said, depends on what are you measuring

      @SpoileralertGMA47 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jamesfy ปีที่แล้ว

      They will get screwed on the endurance and volume of work. The NFL is an extremely high power output sport. Put those dudes through 13 events over 4 days, they will burn out. Its been seen before. No disrespect to them, but the volume is a huge factor that many dont realise. Its easy to be super powerful if you're that way inclined and smash a few events...but those same athletes dont have the recovery capacity that Elite Crossfitters end up building. James Townsend is a great example of this. Anything sub 14 mins, he crushes, but over that time frame he gets beat by a lot of people

    • @odysseusnissan3646
      @odysseusnissan3646 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesfy Good points but I still think the best athletes in the world are in the NFL and if the top 1 of them were motivated switch over they would dominate. But it’s just my opinion. If Cross fit athletes get paid like proper pro athletes in the future we’ll see a lot more black people not just winning but competing in the sport. But as of now CrossFit champions do seem to be the fittest in the world. But definitely not the most athletic.

    . Question is anyone at the games competing over 6ft? CrossFit suits short, stocky gymnastics bodies, leaving whole categories of great athletes out of consideration. Cross fitters are not good runners, swimmers and bikers they just do it. My point is this they should just focus on enjoying the games and competing in sports more aligned with traditional CrossFit. Oh and sort the drugs problem out! Don’t worry about being called the fittest on earth, it’s too subjective.
