Another fun day playing Dunk the Indicator™️ That's great that there are places you can get out into the water safely. Big rivers like that can be challenging :D
Some of that water looked perfect for swinging a streamer on a sink tip line. I primarily nymph but when the waters right swinging a streamer is a blast.
I was thinking the same thing while fishing that day, especially on that gravel shelf. A two handed rod would have been great in some of the wide & flat sections I fished later in the day upstream.
Massive river. Been lucky enough to float this from Lorenzo to Kelly Island. Thanks for showing us you can wade this river. Love the adventures on film. Stick fish…fish sticks…
Thanks Sung! It is even larger in person than it appears on the video. I was fishing in between there that day. Very dangerous river with the deep water and very strong currents... At times I had to check myself in my wading when I realized that I would easily die if I fell or slipped into the water just a few feet from me.
@@purpledrakefishing I bet you were the only wading fisherman on the South Fork. Locals tell me kayakers get stuck in eddies and people drown every year. I might be there in late August. Been meaning to check out the Warm river and Fall River.
@@beo77 Yes, I was the only wade fisherman out there. Very hard to find good spots to fish along the banks of the South Fork unless it is in the late Fall. The Fall and Warm are great to get away from the crowds and less pressured fish.
Thanks Sean 🍻 After lunch I headed a little upstream and did fish dries for hours but got nothing and didn't see any rises despite seeing a few salmonflys struggling on the water. Though I am unfamiliar with the South Fork, I did read some recent fishing reports that said the great dry fly fishing was just about to start with the water temps finally getting warm enough. I will try it again for some evening rises this July.
As a kid I fished that area a lot. I use to catch the salmon flies on the vegitation and then use them for bait. It would take a lot of lead to keep the bait from rolling down the river but we would catch a lot of fish. It's been 40 yrs since I have been there and am trying to pick a good time (fall) to go back and explore my stomping grounds. Growing up, I never ever saw a single boat on the river.
That's cool how as a kid you used the salmonfly's as bait! I would agree that the fall would be a good time to go back as the easier wade fishing opens up then.
The South Fork is not to be fucked with. One of the most dangerous rivers to wade. I'm not sure exactly where you were at but I assume you could drive 30 minutes and be In a river you can wade safely

Throw Dries and no more Whitey! The Southfork is an Awesome Dry Fly fishery! Great Video, wish I was there.

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Should be in the Area again next June. Have to check out the South Snake and Henry's Fork.
Thanks David 🍻 Early June you should see salmonflys on the Henry's Fork, and in late June on the South Fork.
Hi David, This is Purple Drake. I have moved my channel to "Fishing With Drake" Hope to see you there soon!
@@fishingwithdrake8090 Good to know. I enjoy your vids and the info you put out. I helps a newb get into the mix better...
Had that happen this morning , think ya got a toad of a trout on and a white fish comes up , still better then nothing ! Cool video
Thanks WSO! Such a disappointment when you first see them and realize you don't have a trout on.
We fished a few of the creeks feeding into the south fork. Main river just looked to big. Great video!
Thanks PPV! 🍻 Good choice--wading the South Fork is very difficult/dangerous until the fall. I won't do it again until Oct.

Beautiful country
Very fertile, scenic valley. The birds singing were amazing and I saw a few Bald Eagles.
Next time your on the SF jut IM me I will take you on a float.

It was definitely one of the top 1-3 treacherous rivers I have ever waded. Luckily the river bottom & rocks weren't slick. I was in the Heise area.
