He's not cold, he's reserved. It's a front to protect himself emotionally because he's actually incredibly sensitive. An old Buzzfeed video revealed him to be an INTJ, and that's one of their main traits.

I get that Ned went to Yale and studied chemistry, so we already know he’s good at math. Regardless, the fact that he did the last problem in his head is INSANE. He had to convert kilograms to pounds, convert grams to milligrams (not hard, but to keep everything straight is tricky when not showing work), and THEN use the conversion factor given in the problem. And I just remembered he was drunk. 🤯

I'm sorry, but Ned converted kilos to pounds to the second decimal, and worked out the entire equation involving multiple decimal points (mg to g conversions and more) TO THE NTH DECIMAL, while writing a letter to Keith and tying it up with the answer. WHAT IS THIS SORCERY!
When he starts writing his love letter to Kieth, take a look at the bottom left corner of the board. The answer is already written there. You can see him look at it when he writes it into the letter. He solved the problem first before writing the letter (but that footage was cut from the video).

Ned is a pretentious dick, _especially_ about math, and based on some of the questions he was given and some of the comments made by the others, everyone damn well knows it. Pretty sure that's what Eugene's tiny head shake at the end was directed at. It's not that Ned is good at math that's the problem, no no.... It's the fact that he absolutely _has_ to be better than them whenever possible, which is just a shitty way to act towards/around friends.
