A Traffic Jam on the Marceline snagged Amtrak and a whole lot more. La Plata, MO- September 1, 2024.

- Before we left for our visit, we checked the Amtrak Tracker. It showed the Chief was departing Kansas City and was due in La Plata on time (9:21AM or so). However, when we arrived, we found out that a massive traffic glut slowed everything down, taking Amtrak 3 hours behind schedule. Turns out, there was a massive switch failure at Eton out by KC, which froze everything in place. Many trains had to thread the needle on the Marceline, which led to a great traffic flow for us railfans here that afternoon. Hope you enjoy.

Was there ever a 3rd Rail line with passengers going under tracks? Station looks like stairs were filled in.
I'm not aware of anything like that. There were more tracks here in years past, including the Wabash line that ran where the Lookout sits today, but the passenger traffic has always been how it is now. The concrete platform was rebuilt in 2019 to conform to ADA standards.
