Maggie there are several live performances of them doing Aha with Christus Factus Est. The Hookywood Bowl is good but Singapore at The Star Vista (sound quality fair mainly because of Avi's lows and Kevin beatboxing) you will not see Kevin but you hear him. Mitch is quite the performer in this one
Once the orchestra starts playing what most don't realize is that since the beat boxing would be drowned out, Kevin is actually doing the lightsaber sounds instead.

Avi headed out on stage too soon and Kirstie started to follow, Jlo was waving at her to stop but Kirstie thought she was just waving 'Hi" and waved back. Someone stopped Kirstie but Avi was out there by himself for a minute.
You realize that Mitch has been in Pentatonix since he was 19. They have stayed really busy (the reason Avi left) that training in Opera would be something he hasn't had time for. I think he would be amazing at Opera.
He actually skipped his high school graduation ceremony for the Sing Off audition, so he hasn't had the time to do ANY further music education since high school.
Avi is classically trained but Mitch was not even out of high school when the audition for the sing off was done. He missed his graduation to be there.
If you see this - your question on Avi and singing opera he recently said in April/May was that there were very few good arias for basses in opera. His favorite was the one in the Marriage of Figaro. He double majored in college for choral and opera.
When you get together with Mitch regarding a collaboration, see if Mitch and Scott will take their "Hip Hop goes Broadway" up a notch to do "Hip Hop goes Met."

The recording isn't close up or an official video but imo it's still really amazing! It was a Grammy's performance in 2017! One of their last live performances with Avi!

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but you should react to Pentatonix - Aha! Singapore, the Star VIsta, there is a bit more Avi's classical training coming out and Mitch, is well, Mitch. Also, Kevin is there, but the person filming did not show him.
If you want to hear them sing classically, you could listen to them do Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The lows of Avi with a extreme high note from Mitch. Not sure what the octave difference is but it could easily be 6 octaves. A song without voices sung by a band without instruments. It was their second Grammy.

@@MSKPELLEGRINO yes 👍 he did go to Mt. SACC but he did a lot of his classical music training at UCLA. while he was in PTX at least, he still went back and visited campus and worked with the the vocalists/choirs there occasionally

if you love avi sounding operatic, as well as some great mitch, check out the live performance of "Aha" at the Star Vista. the sound quality is a little off after Avi damaged the sound system with his bass.
I’d love to hear them do a LONG tribute to John Williams. Imagine Harry Potter, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, basically almost every iconic music score to every hit movie for the last several decades. What fun!
This Star Wars theme was written by John Williams and performed by the orchestra. Also, the score for the Indiana Jones movies and the Superman movies were written by John Williams.
From Avi's staff bio on the website for Acapella Academy (an acapella summer camp he co-founded and is a director of): "He majored in opera and choral studies at Mt. San Antonio College, a school known for its strong choral and a cappella tradition". So, yes, actual opera training, for realsies, though his personal and professional focus is on the "choral" side of that major. Also, I would DIE to see Mitch sing Nerone, omfg. Poppea is one of my favorites! I mean, it's beautiful, and the way the libretto APPEARS to glorify greed and evil is an incredible social commentary, even today, and the dissonance in Pur Ti Miro is a perfect example of the way the music repeatedly points out the lie of the plot, omfg, like, all that dissonance woven through a big climactic lover's duet, especially knowing how the real Nero and Poppea's lives horrifically ended, not THAT long past the "happy" moment the curtain closes on? YES PLS.
I missed the live cast no car right now, so I'm afoot; anyway, that was great. They all were great, plus put an orchestra behind them, and that puts it on a whole new level. Let's climb aboard that rocket.

Yes Avi sounded so great, for those who have followed PTX from the beginning we've already seen bits and pieces of this side of his huge talent 😊 About Mitch... Lets say I agree with you, his voice is just gorgeous, he's done wonders with his voice many times, but I cherish this too short performance because it SHOWS his potential (it's the purest high note I've ever heard him sing), and at the same time I wish he had gone further in training his wonderful voice...

If you enjoyed them with an orchestra behind you should check them out at Hollywood Bowl, in 2017. They sang more of their songs there with orchestra (Bohemian Rapsody, Imagine, Aha, etc). And also please react to Aha live in Singapore at Star Vista, epic lows and highs "battle" between Avi and Mitch (they have an opera moment there) . I believe there is a jazz vocals program, so any of them could _easily_ be at the top of their Juilliard class. Otherwise, I think that Avi would be the vocalist most optimal for Juilliard’s classical voice program (with Kevin being the best fit for Juilliard overall, being that he is a phenomenal cellist with classical chops who was already good enough to attend Yale!).

Hi. Thanks for the reaction video, that was great. Please react to pentatonix singing (Aha - live in Singapore) it's amazing the classical part of the song.
Not saying that I disagree or know anything about vowel shapes.. But ..there is a certain melancholy, longing, or timelessness ( immense void of space , epic struggle loss and drama) that is portrayed in the opening. The taller vowels can be a bit bright and hopeful ....classical is not Mitch's thing and perhaps it would be better as you suggest ....but I beleive that there is a certain element of choice in it as well.
Mitch had to skip his high school graduation ceremony to audition for _The Sing-Off._ He'd been involved in children's theater at an early age - that's where both Kirstie and Scott originally met him, though they seem to have missed meeting each other until they were in the same class in high school - but the training he received was only the training that any talented child would receive in those circumstances. Then in high school, after Mitch came out of the closet, he was bullied for how high his voice was. This was likely a manifestation of homophobia, but Mitch internalized it as being about his voice. Even now, over 11 years after he graduated from high school, Mitch has major insecurities about his voice because of the way people treated him back then. And from 2011 on Mitch has been totally involved with Pentatonix, no time for college Pentatonix has practically an encyclopedic knowledge about music, from almost all genres. Mostly they perform pop, but "Daft Punk Medley" (their first Grammy winner) is Electronic Dance Music; "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (second Grammy winner) is from Tchaikovsky's _Nutcracker Suite;_ and "Jolene" (third Grammy winner, shared with Dolly Parton who performed it with them at the age of 71) is Country. Also, there are videos of all the members of Pentatonix, but especially Mitch, imitating whatever sounds they happen to hear. So let Mitch listen to a few epic operatic counter tenor performances and he may well get the equivalent of college training in opera just from that.

My son's birthday is May 4th and I considered playing this on the big screen TV every time he entered the room.

if you love avi sounding operatic, as well as some great mitch, check out the live performance of "Aha" at the Star Vista. the sound quality is a little off after Avi damaged the sound system with his bass.
I’d love to hear them do a LONG tribute to John Williams. Imagine Harry Potter, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, basically almost every iconic music score to every hit movie for the last several decades. What fun!

This Star Wars theme was written by John Williams and performed by the orchestra. Also, the score for the Indiana Jones movies and the Superman movies were written by John Williams.

From Avi's staff bio on the website for Acapella Academy (an acapella summer camp he co-founded and is a director of): "He majored in opera and choral studies at Mt. San Antonio College, a school known for its strong choral and a cappella tradition". So, yes, actual opera training, for realsies, though his personal and professional focus is on the "choral" side of that major.
Also, I would DIE to see Mitch sing Nerone, omfg. Poppea is one of my favorites! I mean, it's beautiful, and the way the libretto APPEARS to glorify greed and evil is an incredible social commentary, even today, and the dissonance in Pur Ti Miro is a perfect example of the way the music repeatedly points out the lie of the plot, omfg, like, all that dissonance woven through a big climactic lover's duet, especially knowing how the real Nero and Poppea's lives horrifically ended, not THAT long past the "happy" moment the curtain closes on? YES PLS.

About Mitch... Lets say I agree with you, his voice is just gorgeous, he's done wonders with his voice many times, but I cherish this too short performance because it SHOWS his potential (it's the purest high note I've ever heard him sing), and at the same time I wish he had gone further in training his wonderful voice...

@@maggiereneemusic Sorry I missed it. Aside from being a Pentaholic, I’m a classical and jazz composer and jazz pianist. Oh, and I’m 78, just so you know. By the way... I won the 2013 American Prize for chamber music composition.
You need to watch a recent live version of "Ah Ha". In more recent years they added a classical prelude which I think you would really like.
They switched from Christus Factus Est to Greensleeves with the change from Avi to Matt in the bass in 2018.

If you enjoyed them with an orchestra behind you should check them out at Hollywood Bowl, in 2017. They sang more of their songs there with orchestra (Bohemian Rapsody, Imagine, Aha, etc). And also please react to Aha live in Singapore at Star Vista, epic lows and highs "battle" between Avi and Mitch (they have an opera moment there) . Question- in your opinion, would Juliard accept any of the members of Pentatonix ?
I believe there is a jazz vocals program, so any of them could _easily_ be at the top of their Juilliard class. Otherwise, I think that Avi would be the vocalist most optimal for Juilliard’s classical voice program (with Kevin being the best fit for Juilliard overall, being that he is a phenomenal cellist with classical chops who was already good enough to attend Yale!).

Not saying that I disagree or know anything about vowel shapes.. But ..there is a certain melancholy, longing, or timelessness ( immense void of space , epic struggle loss and drama) that is portrayed in the opening. The taller vowels can be a bit bright and hopeful ....classical is not Mitch's thing and perhaps it would be better as you suggest ....but I beleive that there is a certain element of choice in it as well.

Mitch had to skip his high school graduation ceremony to audition for _The Sing-Off._ He'd been involved in children's theater at an early age - that's where both Kirstie and Scott originally met him, though they seem to have missed meeting each other until they were in the same class in high school - but the training he received was only the training that any talented child would receive in those circumstances.
Then in high school, after Mitch came out of the closet, he was bullied for how high his voice was. This was likely a manifestation of homophobia, but Mitch internalized it as being about his voice. Even now, over 11 years after he graduated from high school, Mitch has major insecurities about his voice because of the way people treated him back then. And from 2011 on Mitch has been totally involved with Pentatonix, no time for college
Pentatonix has practically an encyclopedic knowledge about music, from almost all genres. Mostly they perform pop, but "Daft Punk Medley" (their first Grammy winner) is Electronic Dance Music; "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (second Grammy winner) is from Tchaikovsky's _Nutcracker Suite;_ and "Jolene" (third Grammy winner, shared with Dolly Parton who performed it with them at the age of 71) is Country. Also, there are videos of all the members of Pentatonix, but especially Mitch, imitating whatever sounds they happen to hear. So let Mitch listen to a few epic operatic counter tenor performances and he may well get the equivalent of college training in opera just from that.
