You're focusing on the wrong part, don't worry about the threat of murder to the guy and his kids, you should be praising him and the psychedelics for allowing the dude to understand that he is in fact scared.
For a guy familiar with psychedelics, this guy lacked reasonable insight, he couldn't do anything but mouth out his 1 dimensional story.
He was 100% hoping the conversation would go like:

Even if you remove threats of violence, that's the worst possible way to fix a relationship. She's worried about him cheating on her, so he just dips on vacation with people she doesn't know. Either this dude is lying, or the dude in the story was lying because no matter how enlightened he became on his trip, just going on the trip itself would make things considerably worse.
