Pop goes the cave! It actually felt like going into a cave when I went through Northampton on a coach back in 2003 on route to Derby. Being all in darkness is all I can remember about this bus station.
Totally agree, greyfriars did its job very well, it was convenient and practical, a refurbishment was all that was needed, now the town is left with a crappy smaller bus station that does'nt even have toilets and couldn't have been built in a more stupid place.
***** I agree, The place had its charms and it was practical. Could do your shopping then catch a bus without having to go outside in the pissing rain like you have to do now. The town seems to be every year to be taking a step back. We should learn to treasure what we have for future generations to have something to learn from their pass.
I think this was a massive mistake, when the new bus station first opened in 2014 my late Nan who died a few days before this was uploaded and building demolished, missed her doctors appointment because of the delays the new bus station caused and it still causes issues. The new bus station contributed to the downfall of the Grosvenor Centre because, it's location moved outside the Grosvenor Centre and not enough bays for the Buses. Internet shopping and high rental prices on retail property it's the main blame for the high street in the UK. The old building people say looked ugly, I did not think it looked ugly a building is a building to me, I admit it needed painting, some structural work and better lighting inside, but it worked with the traffic of buses.
Angela Corcoran There is a direct line from Northampton to London now. There are a lot of people who live in Northamptonshire but commute to London for work. There is just nothing that makes this town stand out from others, thus not really worth visiting.

There goes the only bus station that actually worked for this town. Middle finger to the council and our mps.

Good to see it gone!
Are they replacing it? Where will the busses go? Where do you go if you want to catch a bus that used to go to the bus depot?
The new bus station has has been open for months lol
I've never been to Northamton. Is it any good?
Angela Corcoran Not really - its just another generic large town, nothing special about it.
A Vicious Gerbil My husband said when they built the London to Birmingham railway they never thought to build a station in Northampton.
