When I lived in Seoul, I took a trip to Jeju. When I saw these ladies I first thought they were seals. These ladies are so legit and awesome. Such a cool thing to see.
As someone of the Korean diaspora I see these women as some of our national treasures. Thank you Eater for not just focusing on chefs at the restaurant level, but these unsung heroines of our food supply. Young Nam Kim's restaurant is on my bucket list now.
Respect to these ladies. My Korean grandma is around there age. She is very good at cooking yet now days her limbs are becoming weaker due to old age. These halmeonnis are amazing and brave to be working this hard in the sea. I want to eat these so bad
That food at the end looks crazy good. I wish they'd have made golbaengi muchim. There's also a great Korean movie called "Bedevilled" from 2010 that has Jeju Island haenyeo in it. Highly recommended flick.
Love a country without a social safety net. Its great if they do this because they want to, but lets be real, for most its a neccessity because otherwise they would starve. I dont see why this is celebrated, its just sad

Jeju women live forever. My grandma is a former haenyo who is currently over 102 years old. My great grandma on my moms side lived to 103.
Amazing!! Thank you Eater for shining a light on these wonderfully under-appreicated ladies!
Thanks for watching!
These ladies are so cool, and I bet the life stories they tell their grandchildren are legendary!
I could listen to this lady's stories all day. What a life she must have lived so far!

Such a stunning doc - there's a lot of haenyeo content floating around (pun), and this is by far the best. So human
This is nothing but amazing
It's amazing how underrated Uni is. In comparison to the other sea foods we eat.
Apparently, all species’ reproductive organs are delicious. Some of us will never know
I live in San Diego it's very highly appreciated here
The more I see Koreans, the more I fall in love with them. They’re genuinely the nicest people in the world.
Some of the strongest, most independent women in the world.
I have so much respect for these ladies!
I would love to try some legit Uni
Looks fire
“It’s money I made by holding my breath,” is so fire

The humble $1000 meal! The size of that abalone was pretty impressive.
This is a serious workout for the age of the ladies
That's a generous amount of sea urchinss inside the bowl 😋😋
reminds me of kdrama Welcome to Samdalri
Love this 😍
It's crazy how these tasty things are considered pests. Pests we need to help eat so they don't destroy the ocean floors.
I want to try Uni so bad
👍
They wear… lead? The element?
They wear clothes made of rubber. And wear a belt made of lead at the waist. The lead belt allows it to sink into the ocean.
Thaddeus Mountain
