The theme could have worked fine if not for one massive mistake, which was not casting anyone between the ages of 31-40. Millennials v. Gen X was a lot more balanced because a lot of the Gen X players were in their 30s.
Dude if he hadn't already crossed the 40 year mark, I would have written him off as a closet incel. Any flash of resentment is an automatic red flag for me.
in twist like this the casting is KEEEYYYY. Old vs Young easily could’ve worked in Exile Island (again if they fully committed to it). in this scenario, this was the start of the recruitment heavy era. people who barely watched the show and had no business being out there. if they had old heads who really wanted to play and youngies who grew up watching and finally have their chance to play, it would’ve made a better season.
Nicaragua is an underrated season imo, lots of funny characters, great moments, a mix of smart and dumb strategy, both of which are fun to watch and a very unique likeable winner.
Fun fact: NaOnka, aka prosthetic leg hater, crazy loud person, and quitter, had the most confessionals out of anyone on the season with 50. She finished in 8th place.
Why? She's stark-raving nuts. Or at least she was when that season was filmed. If she hasn't improved in the meantime, I pity whoever has the misfortune to be anywhere near her.

Genuinely I think the best thing they could've done for the season is not make it Young vs Old. If Shannon and Na'Onka were on a tribe with older people there's no way they wouldn't have gotten slapped down and the younger people wouldn't have dealt with Jimmy T.'s bullshit either; plus the whole tribe imbalance wouldn't have happened. I don't mind the old vs young twist but it did NOT work here. I think if they do a young vs old thing again they need to make the older people significantly stronger (a whole tribe of former NFL coaches and chess grandmasters (actual ones) and Olympians (but no Crystal Cox please)) instead of a bunch of random old people.
i loved this season so much because of jud/fabio !!! being shit on the entire time then winning because the worst he did was pee in already green water while other people were literally playing psychological warfare, being ableist towards kelly b, and being homophobic towards new yorkers

A lot of the early boots had people that really shouldn't even be playing the game, then the middle of the game boots were people who were in fact not playing the game, and then the last of the tribals was "well shit Fabio has immunity, who do we vote instead?" 4. Allowing Naonka and Purple Kelly to be on the jury. This is more a personal take but quitters don't deserve to be on the Jury (unless its medical or family related). Allllll of this said. It was interesting to watch the younger tribe self collapse on itself like the women's tribe in Vanuatu even with the numbers against the older tribe. Sure therevwere ultimately three younger people at the end but players like Jill lasted a lot longer than I'd thought they would.
They already set the precedent for a quitter to be on the jury in Palau with Janu, so it would have been completely unfair to Fabio to remove Purple Kelly and NaOnka. Also, their quits are 100% on production. They were both recruited and were given hardly any clothing in one of the worst rain seasons in Survivor history. Also, the casting was not "terrible" this season. It's a well above average cast from an entertainment standpoint.
Sorta disagree on 3. Fabio in part won because Chase's messy jury management. Yes, he was also unfourtante because the quitters were given jury spots but they still had multiple shots to get him out and they couldn't stop him. Fabio may not be a strategic mastermind but he still beat them out fair and square

I think the old vs young thing could work even today. Cast 40+ people who are fit, and more in shape, farmers, athletic trainers, physically fit and strong people and then on the other younger side, people who are more brain savvy...but not so much brawn, that way even though their bodies are younger theyre not as conditioned to compete physically. That would be interesting.
Thailand kind’ve already did the young tribe vs old tribe twist, albeit by accident. Chuay Gahn had the older players (minus Tanya) while Sook Jai had the younger players (minus Jake).
Watched the original intro theme (not the one used on the show) as recommended. Using that intro would've helped make the season a little more special IMO. It was totally different, but in a good way. Really wished after seeing/hearing it that they tailored all the intro music the same way to the geographical locations of the seasons.
See the whole idea that the young won because the old people were physically unable is only part if it but really the problem the old people had was that it was a very fractured tribe with players like jane and holly feeling like outsiders making swaying them easier. You can kind of see on the tribe with jane marty and jill they come have pulled fabio and possibly one more but do to their own personal squabbling lost any shot to even the numbers age and physicality wasnt the issue.
This is one of the few seasons I didn't see, due to not having a working TV... and yikes. It looks like they forgot to make sure they cast emotionally stable people who weren't simultaneously racists and ableists. Oh, and thieves. Funny how one person was simultaneously all three of those. She should have been booted off the show the moment she threatened violence toward the woman with the prosthetic leg. Gotta wonder who in their right mind brings a $1600 pair of shoes camping?
Nicaragua is such, a fun season. So many people should return. Some of the cast are hilarious. Jane, Holly, Fabio, Benry, Marty, Jill, Yve, Tyron, Alina all of them should have returned. They are fantastic. If NaOnka hadn’t of quit I’d her to that list too.
It is an awful season and that is why they don’t ask players from that season to return. All of those players you mentioned bore most fans. You are in the great minority who likes this season. I appreciate this season having a contestant with a physical disability. And she still competes as best she can. But the fact that people were saying she’s a threat bcuz she’s disabled…. Unfortunately this season has the majority of the most wretched people they could find. It felt like they took all the rejects from prior seasons and decided to do a season with that. It felt like it then and it still feels like it all that’s years later. Most forgettable season for a reason.
I liked this season. Sure there are some awful characters, but that's the case for every season, and most of them went home early. The medallon of power was stupid, yes! But I'm not mad about since it didn't interphere in the game, like many advantages nowadays. Fabio was a satisfying underdog winner! To start with, he was one of the few nice people who kept a good attitude in such harsh envvironment, and in the end he did what needed to be done. Sash is a GREAT villain and played really well, althought he failed at the most important thing: making friends with the jury. Chase was there... At least he's so hot. I always found Wendy Jo a lovely character and a memorable first boot for some reason. I loved Holly's arch and JANE OME I LOVE HER!!!! Can't believe how underrated she is. Marty was super entertaining as well (and I like him because he mentioned Guillermo Vilas), his elimination was a high point, just like Brenda. I think that Jill had potential, but was at the wrong side of the numbers. I never understood the hate towards Alina, but I even liked the quit since I HATE Neonka! Oh, and there was another quit, right?! (joke). At least you gotta give it to the season that the term Purple was born here.

I haven't watched any seasons in full, but it almost sounds like a slightly less fun Gabon. Just a mess of stupidity and horrific gameplay, but in such spectacular fashion that it becomes hilarious. Although I could be wrong here.

This season was a definite "what if" for me. Like what if the old vs young were not a thing. Wonder what the dynamics of each tribe would be like.

2 major problems with the season:

I always found Wendy Jo a lovely character and a memorable first boot for some reason. I loved Holly's arch and JANE OME I LOVE HER!!!! Can't believe how underrated she is. Marty was super entertaining as well (and I like him because he mentioned Guillermo Vilas), his elimination was a high point, just like Brenda. I think that Jill had potential, but was at the wrong side of the numbers. I never understood the hate towards Alina, but I even liked the quit since I HATE Neonka! Oh, and there was another quit, right?! (joke). At least you gotta give it to the season that the term Purple was born here.

I haven't watched any seasons in full, but it almost sounds like a slightly less fun Gabon. Just a mess of stupidity and horrific gameplay, but in such spectacular fashion that it becomes hilarious. Although I could be wrong here.

my hot take is that Shannon didn't do nothing crazy asking if he was gay. cuz he did seem gay ngl. the way he spoke. this is not a hate comment or anything of the sort, just a clear observation. and he was voted out for asking a "mean" question.but you know who did mess up, that one dude who called out the trans person, like that was not even a move, it was just mean and out of place comment.
