This is one of the best KDP walk-through videos I have seen. I love how you take your time to go step by step with an explanation of each step. I have all your coloring books and the Self Care Journal. I completed my first children's book "Nahla's Secret Pet" last year. Now currently working on my 2nd book now. The one mistake I made was not ordering my author copy, but luckily I was able to correct the error. Before my first sale of the book.

Sorry for all of the questions, but why don’t you suggest getting Amazon’s ISBN number instead of purchasing ISBNs?

Let’s talk about it. ISBN Purchase or use Free Issued ISBN.
In a nutshell for those who plans to write a book, and want to effectively market it, it’s best to pay for your ISBN verses getting the free one, however DO NOT pay for the barcode as most try to upsell you for getting both the ISBN & Barcode.
There is a cost to free and it’s giving your rights to maket how you chooses away from the ISBN issuing source. You can’t reuse the ISBN so that will require you getting another to market on platforms outside the ones they issue. There may be issues with you personally selling copies of your own book.
It’s also important to read even when purchasing as some like to still be listed as the publisher. Do NOT give your rights away, and read their guidelines, and policies on those ISBN.
You can generate free barcode using the paid ISBN from Kindlepreneur.com/isbn-bar-code-generator
Pros of Using a Free Issue ISBN:
1. Cost Savings: The most apparent advantage is the cost savings, as obtaining an ISBN for free eliminates the expense associated with purchasing these identifiers.
2. Ease of Access: For new authors or independent publishers, accessing a free ISBN can simplify the process of getting their work published without navigating through additional financial and administrative barriers.
3. Distribution and Recognition: Free ISBNs often come from self-publishing platforms that also provide distribution services, making it easier for authors to get their books into major retail channels.
4. Immediate Availability: Authors can quickly obtain an ISBN from these platforms, allowing for a faster publication process.
Cons of Using a Free Issue ISBN:
1. Publisher of Record: When you use a free ISBN, the provider of the ISBN (often a self-publishing platform) is listed as the publisher of record, not the author or an independent publisher. This can have implications for rights and how the book is marketed.
2. Limited Control: Having the platform as the publisher of record can limit your control over distribution and pricing. Some platforms may place restrictions on where and how you can sell your book.
3. Brand and Professionalism: For authors aiming to build a brand or present themselves more professionally, having a publishing platform as the publisher of record might not align with their branding strategy.
4. Transferability Issues: ISBNs are non-transferable. If you decide to change publishing platforms or want to take your publication to another service, you cannot take the free ISBN with you. This can lead to multiple ISBNs for the same book, which can confuse retailers and consumers.
5. Rights and Royalties: Some platforms might have specific terms regarding rights and royalties when a free ISBN is used. It's crucial to read these terms carefully, as they might not be as favorable as those under a purchased ISBN.
6. Perceived Legitimacy: In some circles, books published with a platform-provided ISBN might not be seen as "legitimate" as those with an ISBN purchased by the author or an independent publisher. This perception can affect opportunities for reviews, awards, and placements.
Because you may want to sell your book in other places than Amazon. An Amazon isbn belongs to them and you can’t use it on any other platform.
This is helpful. If you are doing a kid's curriculum workbook that has some text and then some coloring pages for every chapter do you think that would be low text content? Where did you get the barcode for the cover on the bottom right of your cover?

I followed step by step! Thank you btw! I completed the Hardcover Details, Hardcover content and Hardcover rights and pricing... I requested proofs but it took 1.5 months for them to be delivered and I still don't have them... Is this how long the shipping will be when I figure out how to actually publish? Which brings me to my primary question... Once I click "Publish my hardcover book" it goes into review but then once it says it was approved/DRAFT and I click "continue setup" it never actually publishes my book and brings me back to what I have already done. How do I actually get my book published?

You can also hire someone to design your cover for you so that all you have to do is upload it.
I would contact them directly with any additional questions or concerns.

Amazon gives 3 types to choose from. Black n white, standard and premium paper.
After you request your copy then do you go ahead and publish or do you wait until copy comes in?

If they use markers it will most likely bleed through anyway, but I still leave a blank page on the back to reduce the bleed through.

If you click expanded distribution, are you not allowed to sell in physical stores? Is it an either or type of thing or can you do both? Also thank you for this video it was extremely helpful.
You can do both if physical stores accept your book. Generally when publishing only through KDP physical bookstores will not stock your book.
For physical stores to stock your book you’d want to check out IngramSpark and if you decide to publish on KDP AND Ingram Spark at the same time then you will not want to click expanded distribution on KDP.

From your experience, how long does it take for the author copies to ship?
Generally 1-2 weeks although mine have never taken any longer than 7 days to receive when I used to order them.
