  • We unboxed two pastel 100% het piebald ball pythons from Tropical Tom's on MorphMarket. The result was less than desirable. We will be doing a couple followup videos on these snakes to keep people apprised of how they progress.

    those poor little noodles, I can hardly believe shipping them in March with no heat? very lucky snakes indeed. I hope in the time that you have posted this and now that they are doing well and that they prove to be what you ordered. I do hope Mr. Tom loses his animals and he goes to jail cause this is very wrong to starve an animal and ship it in cold conditions without heat is like torture as the snake just slowly freezes. give them a little boop for me and happy breeding

      They are considerably better. Their weights are up, they are feisty. As for proving out, I'm confident they will not prove to be what I ordered, but they have forever homes now.

    I looked at Tropical Tom's snakes on morph market. His snakes all seem way under fed!! He has 4 snakes on morph market right now (at the time I wrote this) that are from 2012 and only one is over 1000 grams!! One is 890 grams, one is 915 grams, one is 990 grams, and the 4th is a whopping 1093 grams and all 4 are from 2012!!

      Thanks bro! much appreciated! And yeah, his weights are way off. One of the girls has already put on over 100 grams. The other one is doing well too, but a little slower to gain weight. I am planning on doing an update video on Tuesday I think.

      I saw some of "Tropical Tom's" snakes on Morph Market 3 or 4 months ago. I couldn't believe the weights they were posting for their snakes. I thought maybe they goofed somehow. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be a goof. I'm letting everyone I can think of on TH-cam know about the situation. Maybe someone like Brian Barczyk or Brian Kusko can do something about it. Thanks for posting this video!!

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's why I decided to post the video unedited. I talked to the guys at olympus, and after a bit of a conversation, I decided to be completely transparent on my channel. This way, future buyers will be able to find the video and make an informed decision. If it is warm, heat packs aren't needed for instance. So they can take that into account. And the weights... again they get to make Informed decisions.

    My brother got me a piebald pair for my birthday a year ago.. Need I mind you my brother has no idea about snakes. So he got them from Tropical Tom's. two weeks after getting them. One had died, the other had a bad respiratory infection. Lucky I was able to save that one... Even with putting them in quarantine, they had riddled half of my other snakes with mites.... Was a pain in the ass trying to care for the one that was sick, along with killing off the mites, and still being able to make formation in the mornings.

      Thanks brother. The second is a normal, and honestly, I am still glad to have her in my collection. They are still beautiful animals, and I wouldn't let them go for anything.
      Looking back with logic, and how they have grown since, I am rather sure the second one was shipped after having laid a clutch of eggs. It would explain the tail suck and the ridge of her spine easily, and given neither of the snakes are what I ordered, I don't think the age is right for the first girl either, so the slow feeding may not have been as bad as I first thought. So hopefully they weren't neglected too bad.
      Thank you for the well wishes, I don't know if you have a channel on here, or a facebook, but given your name and comment, I am going to assume you breed. Do ball pythons like to be handled often? I'm considering getting one

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A good majority of them are quite okay with being handled often. There are some that aren't, but they are fewer. If you get them young, and work with them, they really do make wonderful pets.
      Things to note about handling snakes: Do NOT handle them the day you are going to feed them. Don't handle them much the day after you feed them. Snakes feel most vulnerable when they have recently eaten due to the fact that they cant move like normal. So a bit of a "break" before and after feeding is usually suggested.
      If you are considering getting a ball python, get the setup up and running ahead of time. Make sure the temperatures and humidity are good ahead of time. Take your time and find one that you absolutely find gorgeous. Classic/Normals are how most people start keeping them, but if there is a morph you like, find the most beautiful version of it you can. Also, put money back for vet bills. Hopefully, you will never need it, but just in case funds are a great idea ahead of time. Forums are a great place to get ideas of anything wrong, however no one knows every thing that can go wrong, and being able to afford tests and medicines is always advised, even with cats and dogs and any other creatures you decide to take care of.
      That said, they are amazingly hardy animals that are worth keeping. I am glad you are considering getting one, and I wish you true joy while keeping them.

    Hey, I was just given a Ball Python as a surprise gift. It was unfortunately purchased from PetSmart. They supplied a sheet showing the days it would eat and when it would shed. The sheet also had "Date Arrived" which added up to 3 months, but no actual age of the snake. It also failed to give the sex of the snake, I was told that the employee at PetSmart said it was "too young to sex", which I've never heard of.
    So my question is:
    What should a 3 month old Ball Python weigh and how long should they be?

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MachoDingus first off, I'm happy you got a baby. Weight ranges, it can vary based on how big they hatched. I have hatched babies as small as 28 grams, and as heavy as 94 grams. If they average 60 grams, at 3 months You should be looking at about 100 gram range plus or minus given eating habits and other factors.

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MachoDingus as for lengths, I never measure that really. I worry that they eat, and they shed proper. Everything else can take it's time. As for sexing a snake, you can do that once they are out of the egg. You just have to be careful not to damage the sex organs. I only teach people to do that in person so I canensure a snakes safety.

    I had been thinking about purchasing two 2015 het pied females also from Tropical Tom’s. They were both around 450g but the last update was from months ago. I emailed him for updated information with no response. I inquired about the two females a few months later. He quickly responded with the females still being available but that he had a lot of interest for them. He messaged me two days later telling me I needed to hurry and purchase because he had more interest in them. I felt as if he was more or less trying to push me into purchasing so I just decided not to do business.

      I'm glad to hear you decided against it. I should have taken a bit longer in my decision to buy as well. I think it took me about 2 hours. Luckily the girls are taking to food rather well. They have yet to turn down a meal. I hope you find a few girls you like soon :)

      Dude, I really don't wanna be an ass and you're welcome to go rag on my videos but for real man? Do you think you're actually being realistic in your expectations here? BHB for example is a TH-camr now who makes more money on TH-cam than his reptiles. He has a staff taking care of the reptiles. You bought from one dude who has to do it all himself, do you know how much work 500 snakes is? It's hard to balance everything and I don't think you're having compassion for the effort involved in doing this. You're young and I get young people rush to judgment without thinking but still man. Okay, that's it, I'll shut up now it's just tough to see as somebody who has been a father, husband, had 500 snakes to tend to and endless emails that were always a struggle to prioritize. Out of curiosity, can you add more details to the description. Price paid, shipping cost paid, number of email exchanges, temps on his end and yours when shipped. These are all important factors.

    Also had a similar experience. The seller was nice, but shipped in winter without heat packs and there was a delay so she almost died. Had to resuscitate her.

    Idk about you but I would’ve saved the weighing for later and put them straight into the heat so they’d feel better. Maybe get them something to eat. Let em warm up and feel better before weighing them

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      V1per V1R0S we got then on heat faster than I ever have, they fed day two, but I didn't want to feed day one of arrival. But weight is always done when I unbox. Gives me a start point for my records.

      That would have them go into shock and die. It's like putting a human who has hypothermia into warmth. They can die

    What do you mean by fast feed?

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      fast feeding means I feed every 5 days instead of 7. Also, when first getting a snake, usually you wait a week to feed to allow them time to adapt to their new environment. If you want to feed them faster, you take a good chance of them refusing the meal, which if you have other snakes, is easy to push down the line. but if not, you may risk wasting rats if you feed frozen thawed.
      I do not advocate feeding multiple rats in the same day unless it is in certain circumstance, which are few and far between, like say you get a egg to hatch and the baby comes out 25 grams. That's a serious health risk. if they refuse food, they might not make it a few weeks. So you assist feed pinky mice right? or force feed if absolutely necessary. You can (though not always recommended) feed them two of the pinky mice in one sitting, so they get double the food to grow. This is called chain feeding or power feeding. If you do it too much though, you can cause your snake to get a fatty liver and other issues that will impact their health. Obesity is a real issue in snakes that people dont realize. So, fast feeding can mean a few things. In this case though, it was meaning to push food on a slightly accelerated time table, for a short period of time (8 meals), to help them get up to a healthier weight range from being under fed. After that, they were put back on a normal time table, so they don't incur any undue effects. I hope this helps. If I made it more confusing, feel free to ask all the questions you want. I am here to help people learn.

    That’s so damn sad. How can you ship a snake without a heat pack in the cold?! Thank you for making this video. And for caring more about getting them away from that scumbag than their genetics. Only little comment I have is to let a cold snake come to room temp before putting them on heat. It can cause problems but I think it’s pretty clear you knew what you were doing. Thanks for calling this guy out!

      Kentuckiana Exotics thank you for responding. It's most likely going to be a couple years at least, and i'm from the netherlands, so options might be different here. I already have an idea of what i like, though once i'm ready i'll do more research and decide what'd be best for my situation at that time. I want to give the animal i get the best life possible :)
      I've been in love with snakes since i was a little girl. I could very well imagine myself getting obsessed when i start, haha.

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh it is so addicting! As for the legality in the netherlands, there will be animals that you can have for sure, but learning everything you can ahead of time is always great!

    • @tess2082
      @tess2082 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kentuckiana Exotics oh yes, there are definately animals available here. I've already found some breeders, actually. I was thinking of starting with (a) garter snake(s), because i like their requirements and activity. I've seen mixed advise on their difficulty though. Would you think they would be okay as a first time snake? If not i might get a ball python instead.

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      》Tessa 《 so I grew up handling them from the wild as they are native to where I lived as a kid. They are amazing, they are very well adaptive to their environments. They are a bit more nippy, but if you were small and anything could be a predator, you would be too. The bites don't hurt, so it's kind of up to your level of comfort.
      Balls are always an easy first snake though. So if you aren't sure, they could be a better introduction to snakes. Both are beautiful though, and either could make amazing pets.

    Poor babies :[ This is why I'm a little hesitant on having noodles shipped to me. I'm so scared they will arrive so cold and so stressed due to it. Luckily I have an amazing shop 20 mins from me who always has different types of breeds/morphs.

      She loves to be kissed, held, hates a cage. We clip her wings, and she loves to sit outside and feel the breeze. Her only downside is she is so reckless and has zero fear. She has jumped on the stove while I was cooking (I now have to put her in her cage to cook as she has tried more than once), she wants to explore everything. She is so cute though so it is hard to tell her no lol.

    He (Tropical Tom) has a 2017 snake listed up on MM right now. Thank you for sharing! MM doesn't allow seller reviews, but at least you can do on here. I got my first bp from Wilbanks and she is gorgeous in every way, great buying experience! How are these babies now? Did they turn out to be het pied?

    • @KentuckianaExotics
      @KentuckianaExotics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So they are healthy, both are close to 1800 and 1900 grams. I haven't bred them yet, I wanted to give them extra time before their bodies went through that, to give them the best chances at remaining healthy throughout the process. So not sure about the het pied part yet. But to this day neither of them really like to be handled much, but they don't strike at me as soon as I open their tubs like they used to.
