The Forty Foot and its dedicated swimmers

For over 250 years the Forty Foot has had committed swimmers brave all forms of weather to swim every day.
We visited the community there and spoke to them about why they keep coming back to the water.

One thing the lady forgot to mention talking at the end of this clip was the REAL reason the Forthy Foot was ONLY for men up until the late 60's I think..was because the men were nude and enjoyed the feel of skinny dipping in the water..They thought this would of been very offensive to ladies back then and un-gentleman like.. also especially in Catholic Ireland back then the strict law would not agree. It was not that men did not want ladies there or were sexist as most ladies today would think that..But now since ladies are allowed in .All men and women have to wear togs and swimwear incase some get offended . How times have changed. However men can still swim nude and women if they want and legal just up the roas at Hawks Cliff Dalkey on the Vicor Road . Only thing is. It does get a lot more cramped there in the heat of the summer cause the place is a lot smaller than the well known Forthy Foot
