"its not an act of love if you made her" with mary and john was emotional damage
"So he can live out his picket fence dreams" with Sam was genius

Also using the shot of Alastair lifting/choking Dean with the line “its not an act of love if you make her” really gets me (and as others have pointed out, highlighting John and Mary’s relationship for that line is genius)

This song fits him perfectly. He had to be everything to his family, and I always felt that neither John nor Sam really appreciated or cared for him, as much as he did for the family.

Re: Sam, I don't think that's Sam's fault, though, because I think Dean never let Sam see how much Dean sacrificed for Sam until much much later. Sam literally couldn't appreciate how much Dean did, because he didn't KNOW how much Dean did.

The scene you put with Dean lifting his gun and the song lyrics going for " lift a finger" THAT WAS GOLD, it clearly refers to how Dean would literally die before letting Sammy's hands get bloody, even if they ultimately do, Dean goes beyond his limits to prevent it. And that scene, the moment, wow, dude, perfect. Great job, thanks for this edit!

I can’t believe there are people complaining about Dean being edited to this song. Yes it is a song focused on women’s struggles which is so important but that doesn’t make it exclusive. Dean was everything to Sam, did everything for his family and never for himself. And anyway songs are often paired to characters of a different gender in edits, sometimes based purely off vibes. This works so well for him and no one can convince me otherwise ❤.

coming from a Sam person. My poor baby, this fits him so well, he deserves the entire world along, he was a mother a father a brother to Sam and we have to appreciate this man more.

Themorbidhunger said it best somewhere in these comments, but some people seem incapable of reading their statement or seeing any nuance.
While the song does fit women as a whole, Dean as a character was forced into ‘too much labor’ due to the choices and pressures his parents put on him. He even says, as referenced in this video, “I had to be more than a brother. I had to be a father, I had to be a MOTHER, to keep [Sam] safe.”
Dean took on the roll that is usually forced upon/expected of women. Maybe its a rarer occurrence since he’s a man, but its the way his backstory was laid out, end of.
From the time he was 4 he spent all day, every day, as a therapist, mother, and maid to Sam and John.
Last thing John says to him before he died was along the lines of ‘you took care of Sammy, you took care of me. And you never complained; I’m so proud of you.” And Dean’s rely to that is “you’re scaring me,” because he was never praised for all of the work he did to hold his family together.
While its not a perfect fit, a la the ‘24/7 baby machine’ line, its probably as close as could be for a fictional male character, and there is nothing wrong with that.
From a personal place, my mom was the unstable parent, and my sister and I were raised by a single father who had to play every roll for us without any help. I know this is far less common than what is expected of women, but there are cases of men who have to step up to the plate. Simply showing these cases does not diminish the far more common stories of women. Its simply showing that there are nuances in the world and everything is not always clear cut.
If anything, it’s refreshing, to see recognition that a very masculine ‘macho’ male character can feel deeply and take on a caring/nurturing roll. He was, for all intents and purposes, Sam’s nurturer and his fathers servant.

For those who are saying it's a weird song for him, well: Just replace the word 'her' with the word 'him' and it literally fits exactly everything that he has had to do. He has had to play every role possible that a human being can to satisfy his father and protect his brother. "Therapist, maid..." all of it fits because raising a kid is just so damn *hard*. They need you for everything and when you're expected to become everything to a baby at the age of 4, it absolutely destroys your soul as you have no identity of your own because it never even developed, because all you ever were was a servant. This isn't a weird song for him. It's the perfect song for him that describes why he always feels, and rightfully so, that he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was a surrogate wife for his father after Mary died, he was *everything* to Sam. Claiming that this can only be for women is like saying that only women are allowed to feel the good things too, like being able to receive love in return for the one they've been nurturing, and being able to let himself cry when he just can't take all of the pressure constantly and forever. Really, people need to step outside of their own perspectives a little more, or how can they expect to grow and also to help others when they are struggling with burdens that are too big for them to carry on their own? This isn't just a situation that is limited to a fictional character; there are struggling single dads out there who couldn't have been prepared, either, and siblings all over the world who have had all of the parental responsibilities delegated to them so they often have to sell their bodies in order to provide food and other essentials for their sibling 'children'. Women and girls suffer, and it's good that we're becoming more aware, but we can't forget that suffering is universal and not limited to one sex---the second we do so, we are actually cutting ourselves off from help... there are men working as public servants, trying to help women and children. This isn't a strictly female issue, this is a *world* issue, and the only way to properly address things like this is to keep an open mind and heart. Dean Winchester is probably the best fictional example of this struggle, *especially* because you don't expect to see it in a man, and that's exactly what makes it so powerful once your eyes are opened to it. Peace.

All the work Dean was forced to do because of John and Mary, becoming mother and father and brother and so much more to keep Sam safe? Fantastic.

Although the editing is well done, the reason why many of us think it’s not a song made for Dean is because what he experienced is the result of abuse but in a specific context. No, he is not "All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid" because of his gender, but because he is the oldest (and this is not normal, i know!) but in many siblings where there is a big brother and a little sister, the roles will often be reversed (I do not say all the time, I say often); because of misogyny. *It’s not just a female rage song, it’s a hymn that cries out what the societal pressure has been on us since birth.* A cisgender man does not experience it in the same way. Transgender men and transgender women; non-binary people who have experienced misogyny in any way, form, can. That’s the difference between Dean being forced to do because he is a traumatized child, *and a girl, a woman who will be forced because she was born as a girl.*

I know many people won't like this that much, as the song comes from a place of womenhood and female rage - and I kind of get it, as I myself am still not sure of my toughts about using the song to represent anyone who has not experienced the specific kind of repression that women and female individuals in general experience in their lives - but if I had to pick one male character and had to relate him to this song it would definitely be Dean Winchester.
I can't fully explain it, but there are a lot of things about Dean that reminds me of how women are/were threated and represented in shows and movies, most of them somehow related to forms of sexu*l assault. It's in the way Dean's the one who plays bait for creatures (including under John's orders), the way monsters are really confortable in making sexual advances on him or getting way to close for confort, the way him being pretty is often taken as an excuse for objectification... his looks are also the reason why other hunters seem to underestimate his capacities (seems relatable?), joking about how he doesnt have the looks of a hunter. And there is even more to that, as he is the one constantly mocked for the things he likes (he is the one who behaves "fangirly" and enjoy un-manly things) and in a sense there is even the way he is the one who died for Sam to experience character growth.
This is something I had tought about before n' there's probably more to it still. Altough it's not the same as the female experience, a lot about Dean is defined by gender expectations and how he goes agains them and has to deal with mental struggle about it. Again, it's not the same, but still. If I had to pick a guy it would have been Dean.

OMG if I replace in my head the her with him it's like the song was made for dean. Another comment also described perfectly✨ why! Like Dean was always in my eyes the cool, badass guy who cared so much about Sam that he always said that he's fine even though he isn't and wanted to take all the burden(labour) on himself. He just seemed so cool but miserable at the same time. As a kid I just wanted to give him a hug and wanted to share his burden, the same goes for Sam who must feel terrible that his brother is like that and doesn't want help. Their bond is still so sweet and since I was 8 years old the fact hasn't changed that supernatural will always remain one of my favourite series! 😍❤❤ This edit is just fantastic and a masterpiece, thank you for realising the parallels and uploading this video! This is like showing a whole damn respect towards Dean and his resolve.

Because father was monster hunting so somebody had to take care of baby Sam. Sam went to college, Dean stayed with father to help him with ,,family business". the whole show is basically him and Sam trying to protect one another and failing, plus reappearance of their mother who we find out was alive all this years, well not the easiest experience. Sure he is misogynistic asshole. But i think this song is also for the siblings and people from disfuncional houses who had to do too much, to early
