Got the tune last week with 1200 miles on the odometer. I agree with everything you said about the tune. Feels like it is more of a transmission tune than anything at this point. I have seen about a 1.2 mpg improvement. I have really appreciated your videos. You pretty much convinced me to get one of these trucks. It has been one of the most fun vehicles to drive I have ever owned. Thanks for all of your insights.
Of course. I don’t want to sugar coat anything and have people buy the wrong truck for them, but this thing is pretty freaking awesome all around and the tune makes it even better… after some miles are put on it
@@flaberdoopin Nice to hear that. I am a little worried as i would be going to the RR from an F150 Raptor. But the price point, size, capabilities are all pointing towards the RR more and more. And i won't have to give up the fun factor. And with that tune the RR will be (on paper) more powerful than my '23 Raptor. Thanks again.
Another great video. I am still enjoying mine as well, it’s pretty rare to find 93 around here, since installing my Ford tune I have put around 8 tanks of fuel through mine. I generally stop and fill up whenever low fuel warning comes on, so far twice I have been out on the interstate in a rule part of state and no premium was available, at least 2 of those 8 tanks were 87, honestly could not honestly tell any difference at all. At least I could not tell the difference from the seat of the pants. I don’t drive mine like grandpa either, driving this little truck hard and fast, is so much fun it’s very addictive. Lately I seldom get more than 13-14 mpg. lol just too much fun the hammer it.
@ I didn’t drive it any different, it runs strong with either fuel, I am sure there is likely a marginal difference that could be seen on a dyno , but seat of the pants wide open throttle I could not tell any difference. Driving this truck hard wide open at a somewhat addictive or habitual bases, has been very surprising to me, this little truck just begs to be driven hard and fast.
Great review! The Ford Performance tune is 100 percent worth it. I did testing with a Dragy before and after the tune. Best time before tune was 5.7-5.8 and after tune was 4.95 and that was in 87 percent humidity in Florida. I’m thinking with better weather 4.7 is possible for me

"Do what makes you happy" Amen brother! As always . . . love your videos and love your advice. Don't care if you feel like you're rambling, it feels like I'm having a beer with ya' and talking shop. Question for you or others: I have heard people say if you are looking to up the size of your tires, then don't get the Perfomance Tune because the larger tire size will mess with your Tune calibrations (or something to that effect) and maybe even the warranty; even if you get the Tune "after" you put the larger tires on. Have you heard anything like that?
thanks for the comment and i really do appreciate it... i have read that if you have the tune and you put larger tires it will void the warranty because it puts additional stress on the entire drivetrian... while that is a bummer, i do undestand it from an engineering point of view. Larger tires would cause additional resistance to the forces alonge the drivertrain from the crankshaft through the transmission, through the transfer case and both differentials. while as a customer, i wish it wasn't the case, i understand the stipulation from the engineering point of view.
It seems that way, but I had new cam phasers needed at 3,200 miles. Others with the tune have also replaced cam phasers at less than 10k. It's the 3.5 gen 1 design. Even though Ford knows they arent good, and already fixed the mistake with updated design. They went backward in tech for the cam phasers. I'm not getting rid of mine, but if I have another cam phasers issue, I may have to remove the tune.
@@TheTouchdownBrown Right, lots of people reporting that they have the cam phaser issue on the USA Ranger Raptor FB Group, and that sucks and a big inconvenience if you get hit with it. My RR is a little over 4 months old now and knock on wood so far it is okay, and I hope it stays that way only time will tell. Honestly at this point I am really glad that I paid extra for a 6-year extended bumper to bumper warranty.✌
i am holding my breath about the cam phasers and just hoping that is not something i have to deal with any time soon. I have a feeling whenever the Gen 3 RR comes out i'll want to upgrade to that (then again, i thought the same about the Focus RS and they just stopped making them). If this motor is a big enough issue long term, i may just swap to a coyote motor... there are plenty of guys in AUS that have already done it. If i keep this thing long term, that will probably be the project i take on!
For Ford to void the warranty it would have to be the tunes fault and somehow installed incorrectly. Magnuson Moss Warranty Act protects the consumer from situations like this is my understanding. Given the install took me 10 min or less at home it seems like a mere money grab from Ford to push you to a dealer. They also provide instructions in the box so if this was truly mechanic/ASE only it would be provided through an internal employee/ase portal one would think. The fact that someone got charged $800 makes me want to offer on the forums to guide people on how to do it as it is truly as easy as flashing BM3 maybe easier in some regards
It will depend a lot on the dealer you go to I think. If they can prove that a malfunction was a result of the tune and you go thru ford performance for the warranty they may turn you away because they clearly state that it has to be installed by a certified mechanic. I’m not saying you are wrong but I see them pushing back and some people won’t want to take that risk.
I agree on the 1-2/2-1. 2nd is still like 40% shorter than almost every 4 speed you'd find in a truck 20 years ago, *and* it's got a 4.27 final drive to boot, so imo I'd prefer the truck almost never use first unless it's from like a dead stop, currently it's a bit too happy to drop into 1st which is honestly too short for most stuff, the drastic ratio difference likely also playing a part in the jerkiness
i didn't know the ratios but i agree with everything else. on the street, i think the transmission is great and shift from 1-2 isn't terrible but offroad in 4L it can be rough!
That is first heard for me. I have been using 4L since the first month and it has always started in 1st and it has always been a jolt into second. And that is in auto trans, not manual with paddle shifters. I have heard others say the same about theirs as well. When crawling up rocks I don’t think second would do it because at 1-4 mph you are at 1500-4500 rpm which is perfect for obstacles

I like the looks of the beadlock capable wheels but the fact that it requires another $800 worth of rings and it is t ‘street legal’ I may swap them out for something lighter. @flaberdoopin yeah I agree, although I haven't gotten mine dirty yet. As soon as I rinse it off it gets dirty being a dark color. The truck is fun, it's fast, I can't wait for the tune to arrive, and im actually looking forward to snow up here in the northeast FOR ONCE!

Awesome videos bro. I got my RR a month ago and currently have 2200 miles on already. It’s an amazing truck. But there’s a few things I hate about it. Like how long it takes for the digital cluster to start up and sometimes it resets things on it own and also the infotainment takes for ever as well. Especially when it’s cold. It’s pretty annoying. I also did the tune when I hit 1000 miles. I like it but I feel like normal mode is shifting so high in the revs instead of just giving me boost at low rpms and it’s so annoying. I honestly don’t like it. Maybe because I came from a 2021 f150 3.5 ecoboost and that engine was awesome and when I just have it in normal mode it shifts at just 2000 rpms for the most part. Maybe it’s just me but this tune on the RR is weird to me and I had my f150 with a tune as well and it was way better. I’m kinda disappointed to be honest. Don’t get me wrong it does have power but when just driving normal it sucks ass
I get it for sure. This is the first V6 that I have had that seems happy up at 5-6000 open… my old in line 6’s in my M3s and the 4 cylinder in my focus RS were happy up high but that is to be expected. With torque numbers like this motor puts out I also initially expected it to be happy in the 2500-3000 rpm mode but it does hang the revs up pretty high. I have learned to enjoy it but if they come out with a ranger with a coyote engine I’ll trade in a heart beat… that said, this is a pretty awesome truck all around with a few things to fix.
