Gudaf Tsegay won the race going away, maybe 4 or 5 seconds faster than Letesenbet Gidey, who led the race for maybe 4700 meters. Tsegay looks a bit like Almaz Ayana and I got confused.
According to the tables, Gudaf's time at this altitude is said to be comparable to 14:02 at sea level. In addition, Gudaf recently ran 10,000 m in 29:39 without any help.
@@BR-lx7py I agree that sub-14 at sea level is possible for both Gidey and Tsegay, but I don't think that's a cinder/clay track. It looks to me like a badly worn synthetic surface. If you watch the intros for the women's 1500, you can see telltale chunks out of lane 1.
If Gidey doesn’t create a good gap well before the last lap, she can’t win because she has almost no final kick - her kryptonite - despite having a phenomenal ability to effortlessly maintain a high pace steadily throughout the race. Something for her to keep in mind at the olympics.

And I am certainly right that without Letesenbet's help, Gudaf would not have been able to do such a time. The same can be said in the history of athletics. The fast sprinter lets the whole race be pulled by a slower runner and shortly before the finish he overtakes him. It's OK, but it's unfair and sad. And then when such a non-sprinting runner finally gets a chance to help the lights show their abilities and limits, then it's definitely good. You want to be fair, but you have a hard heart and you haven't thought about it thoroughly.

That's what running on the track is all about, after all. I'd much rather watch a paced runner set a WR than watch a jog-and-kick disaster like the men's 1500 at the Rio Olympics. No knock on Centrowitiz, but that was pathetic. It in no way showed what those athletes were capable of. If I want to see who's the best 400-meter runner in the world, I'll watch the 400.
