We enjoyed the session Hayden. Thanks so much for it. Would love to collaborate again with you!
Thank you Hayden for the session and the recording!!
comprehensive and well put together
Excellent presentation Hayden. I’m glad you mentioned antenna gain is not always a great thing. Besides being a ham I’m an RF engineer and I can’t tell you how many times designers assume more gain is always better and they ignore the antenna pattern. Well done.
~ John K2DXK
Thanks John,
Yes you could do an entire presentation on antenna gain, electrical downtilt, modelling and phasing antennas!
Cheers for watching again, 73!
Great video Hayden. One of your best so far.
Thank you! Glad it all made sense!
Hi Hayden In Denmark we have repeaters on 4M. 70 Mhz out on 70,500 and in on 69,900 Mhz. However, we only have this one frequency. there are 5-6 repeaters active at the moment. Our 4m band is from 69,900- 70,500 with small gaps. There is some traffic on 70.450 Mhz which is FM calls and on 70.200 SSB
Great presentation and questions at the end. One of the hardest parts of tuning our repeaters was getting the squelch sensitivity set correctly.
Thanks Kyle. Yeah for sure, the squelch sensitivity will change from the test bench to the site - and then it can randomly open when noise floor levels change etc.
We don't have so much of that issue as we run CTCSS so the mute is set really really fine.
Bonza Hayden, I run a repeater too here in the old Dart
Hi, DTMF is Dual Tone Multi Frequency.
Really enjoyed this video! I’m in the U.S., but I wish I lived closer.
It looks like you have a lot of fun with your repeaters. I’ve always found them one of the most interesting parts of ham radio. I’d love to be nearby and get to pitch in and help/have some fun.
In the area where I live, the repeater owners aren’t particularly keen on other people playing with their toys, nor in sharing their “secrets”.
Not my idea of what ham radio is all about, imho.
Anyway, great video. Definitely earned a “like and subscribe” from me! 😊
Thanks! Yeah there are a few groups that get overly protective about them. There are obviously rules with some sites for access etc - but still there are other avenues and ways for people to help. Cheers!
Re dtmf spoofing - rolling codes are a way of preventing this without actually using "encryption" as such.

You and a fellow club member - Kyle are excellent at instructional information thank you Hayden. Question - Your offhand comment about Internet access in VKland is it REALLY free?
Hi mate,
Kyle is fantastic! Where/what was the comment? Internet access is rarely free - although we do get some sponsored internet from some local companies for our repeaters/club.
1:16:15 you said the internet is freely available , I think this is where oldmissouri is talking about and thought you said the internet is free?
@@vk3hauAhhhh that... yes.. sorry when I said "freely available" I meant it in the fact that it's easy to access (i.e. we have internet access at all of our sites) haha!
I should've said it's easily accessible
