my question is a little of base. I have a Chaplin's Improved Plan No. 1207. i need to make a new frog for it because the original one was replaced with some Rube Goldberg attempt. But it just shifts all over the place. Do you have the patent with dimensions or the part so you could send me the basic dimensions?

interesting oddity but as you say, best left for the collectors. i'll keep my stanley 4 1/2 and 605 as smoothers

Interesting! I had never heard of these. How would you rank it compared to your other planes?

Hi John! Depends on the criterion. Unusual features (aka gizmosity): near the top. Manufacturing quality: also pretty good. Practical usability: not great. The mouth opening adjustment and the lack of lateral adjustment are definite strikes. It's better than a plane that was deliberately aimed at the low end of the market, but most of the decent quality planes would come out ahead of it.
