Blue Shift was an interesting side story. It didn’t raise the bar like Opposing Force did, but it was cool to see the events of Jalf Life from a different perspective. Some modders are remaking the game in Black Mesa. It comes with all of Black Mesa’s strengths and weaknesses. The good would be graphics, environmental storytelling that wasn’t possible in the original (I really liked how on the newest chapter you could hear houndeyes in the background, which really added to the scale), the Vortigaunt’s new powers were really cool (if anything their powers were underkill going by the lore. I really liked the scenes where they’d bust open the doors), the levels were expanded while keeping true to the original, and the various small puzzles were a nice touch. The bad mostly comes from the bad ai. It will be interesting to see what they do with Xen. What I’d like to see them do, but know most likely will not happen is for the Xen caves to be turned into Antlion caves. My reasoning is because it would be cool, would add in some more enemy variety, would show that there are more creatures living in Xen, and it would just be super cool. I wish that there were more side stories like this (the cancelled Hostile Takeover would have been cool). Luckily there’s plenty of mods where you play as someone new during the Resonance Cascade.
I personnally liked Decay where you have more interactions with Rosenberg.
It's a real shame they never released it on PC though.
