Love this game. I remember this game as a kid. Very challenging though, but love it. If it wasn't for the infinite live thing, I would never see stage 2 🤣🤣🤣
Imagine if every life after second costs microtransactions, each credit is more expensive than previous. And that doll in Janken`s Castle is the only free 1-up in the whole game.
@darthilli there was in Brazil I believe. They re-released the master system 1 as the master system 2 for some reason, so when the 2 came out, they had to name it the master system 3.
One of the most frustrating things about the game is the name of the character, the amount of times i have to correct people calling the game Alex the Kid is unbelievable.
I played it and madly loved this game. but this remake takes away the sense of danger and anger. You die and you start again immediately. first things is 1 life was worth everything, I had to be careful otherwise 3 deaths was a gameover and you would start the whole game again.
I don't know how I finished the original as a pre-schooler but it's probably because I had all the time in the world to play it vs. now having two kids and dying over and over again because I keep mistiming the fucking jumps lol
When I landed for the first time in Costa Rica, first thing I though was "this is the Alex Kidd land". Seriously guys, this games seems to be in Costa Rica landscapes.

The first one def was, on master system it was stone, scissors and that would have beat him here too. Not watched the rest yet. He also missed getting the ring on the first stage and then the extra life in the water.

I hate the little differences. Like beating ox isnt by timing your punches. The long grass isn't long so a lot of the blocks are lower and easier to jump to. You can't kill the first ghost by punching the 2 money blocks nearby.
I was having the same difficulty here, until I watched this and realise that you can bump into the spikes with your head, but not with your stomach. That means that you only need to be careful with the spikes below you, not the ones above.

whats the trick at 55:00 to stay level in water, anyone whos tried knows that consistent buttonpresses is practically impossible, you bob up and down at the slightest press :( don't wanna turn on infinite lives just to get passed 1 room
The trick is that you cannot die from the top spears if your head touch them.so you just let the control loose and the water brings you on the spears without dying.dont presse the pad upwards or you re dead.

I was an alex kidd fan and I was kinda pissed to see this. The art style was muddled (couldnt choose what it was going for) the music was bland ( the original first underwater stage music was amazing, this is insipid) and nothing really new to set it apart from anything else. Ended up playing it in retro mode most of the time. Compared to Wonder Boys amazing remake (watercolour inspired art style, beautiful music but not too far removed from the original) this feels like a cash grab. Sorry developers, but I was kinda excited for this one. There was a lot of untapped potential. Thanks for reading my rant!
Personally I never saw the appeal for Alex Kidd. I'll be honest though I didn't play any Alex Kidd games when was younger. But I did play Alex Kidd in the enchanted castle later on. Did not find it appealing
Can you not run and slide under blocks like in the original version? You should also be able to get an item that shows you what the henchmen are thinking during janken.
Yeah, since commenting I did end up buying it and all the old secrets are in the new version too. Mainly the Octopus pot in fathom lake, the magic stone locations. I thought it was cool though, in the new version you can’t leave Radaxian castle without rescuing Ergle and getting the princes’ letter. Where as the original version you could, and when you got to the second castle, the king would summon ghosts to attack Alex (rather than give the stone tablet) on account of not having the princes’ letter. You would then get to the Cragg lake puzzle at the end and not be able to solve it without the king’s stone tablet lol
@@leomack7625 The original continue trick still works too, hold up and button mash at game over screen like on tbe MS. Yea, I noticed the Radaxian Castle thing, encourages you to do the level "properly" - I don't remember ghosts in the next one.. didn't he tell you to go away or something? Do the ghosts appear if you don't go? I don't quite recall. Im old lol
@@Zaphod-ef9yz He pretty much refuses to help and tells you to go away. A ghost (or 2 I’m not sure) would appear in the top right corner of the screen. Giving a few seconds to still pick up the burger/ rice ball before it comes down to kill you. I think it can still be done in classic mode in dx.

furthest i could get was the helicopter or bost stage after the forest. normally i run out of lives at forest though. sega master system was by first legit console.

@@reflear how the heck am I supposed to complete the game with 3 lives??? Some 20 years ago I was able to complete the Master System version (after ~5 years), but now literally challenge to complete a stage with 3 lives. The control is somehow greasy.
Am very disappointed because i tout this was a new original game, but it turns that this is just a remake not only that but it’s still just unfairly hard, i don’t this version will attrackt new generation kids:

If you played the original to death and still remember it off by heart, then watching this fool play is almost disrespectful.
With scorching pathway, they should've removed the 7 at the entrance of Mt. Kave, since it's no longer the seventh stage.
Disappointing that Parplin, Chokkina and Gooseka's heads don't seperate from their bodies and torment you in this version.
This game needs a time attack mode. Also respect if you complete it without infinite lives mode. Real oldskool gamers play that way, me included.

Thanks ! I did it. The trick is move Alex close to the spikes and pressing only right or left, not up and down as I used to do.
