The problem isn't just the oxygen. The problem is most of the alcohol was still in liquid form. These material combust better in their gaseous form. Which is why gasoline is atomized in the combustion chamber of an engine to form a more efficient mixture with the oxygen. Try it again with less alcohol so that it takes up less of the volume of the jar allowing for better air/alcohol mixture.
Does it matter what type of alcohol?

Blowing into the jar does not give it more oxygen.....
It does. By blowing from afar, it causes the surround air to follow the path of the blown air, thus letting more oxygen filled air to enter.

for those alchol pulse jets to work you need to only have a few ML for it to work. the more you use the less likely its going to work. what you used at the start is enough for a 5L barrel

i dunno if you have improved this at all, but i've found that adding a small pump makes it work really really well. i used an old asthma nebulizer. it'll fix the air to fuel ratio a bit and let you sustain the process.

I don't know if you can read this in all the comments, but what if a person was to get a tiny, tiny copper pipe, and put it inside the jar through the lid, near the liquid layer, but have it horizontal to the lid and liquid layer, so that the air it pulls in will swirl sideways and make a tornado like effect when you light the hole in the center? Most of what you exhale is oxygen, well actually nitrogen but your lungs don't use most of the oxygen in each breath.

Do the same thing again but add a second hole closer to the edge of the lid, have a flexible piece of hose coming out of the second hole and use tape to stick it to the side of the jar. Then when you light the hole in the middle and the jet blasts the burnt gases out of the first hole, air will be drawn in through the pipe allowing the burn to continue. Without the second hole for an air intake, the air in the glass gets consumed and it has to suck air back in through the same hole you're trying to exhaust out of which effectively kills the jet. . :)

An offset hole with a length of pipe would function as an atmospheric inlet and allow the combustion to continue. Getting the length correct for the volume, and other factors is critical. Google how to build a pulse jet engine for more info.

That's actually pretty cool. If you had a way to constantly supply oxygen to the combustion chamber, your crude motor would run until your fuel was vaporized. I used to experiment with stuff like this when I was a kid and didn't realize at the time that I, like you, we're making a prototypical pulse jet. What would happen if you introduced a small amount of an oxidizer like nitromethane or glycerol into your methanol fuel? I'm suggesting this to you because you're the one with "Crazy" in your moniker. lol

We use a similar process in the Caribbean on a larger scale, but instead of a jar we use a very large hallowed out bamboo trunk and pitch oil.
Cool test!! I'd like to see him try it with the jar on a digital scale to see how much thrust it generates. Maybe play around with different sized holes to make it pulse/burn longer.
