No matter how many times I watch this, I am ALWAYS amazed that you can't hear the dance in anyone's voice. They dance for over three full minutes, full-out, then finish out the song. While dancing. Astounding.
She’s the ABSOLUTE best. Hands down. Her voice, her presence, her charisma is unmatched. And yes, she’s never going to age. Here’s to many MANY more years of Sutton Foster!
Wow...she is phenomenal. I've seen Jonathan Groff's performance of this number, which btw you should totally do a video on. He's good. But she is in another league.
Several years ago Sutton was our guest artist for a big Christmas concert. She and her husband came out and spent the week with our group for final rehearsals and performances. She is absolutely as nice and genuine as she appears to be on screen. I only wish we had had a tap number so she could have shown off her dance skills!
I’ve seen her perform live multiple times and got to meet her, not only is she incredibly talented and puts in a great show, she’s such a great presence! Hope to see her in the Music Man in 2022
Right there with you. I would so love to see her and HJ in that production of The Music Man. Not easy for me living in San Diego however. Pandemic be damned!
Check out the same number back in 2011 but with the full cast and at a press event in a rehearsal hall: In Rehearsal: Sutton Foster Sings "Anything Goes." Just seeing everyone in their own dance clothes, moving around tape markings on the floor, and Sutton singing her heart out before AND AFTER the full dance number is just incredible.
I think this rehearsal is far more impressive. The patterns are amazing. Not distracted by costumes, set or camera angles. I have watched it so many times.
And she was sick!! She was battling bronchitis and had horrible leg cramps from the meds! She has that same quality that Gene Kelly had- and effortless dynamicism that's truly impossible to learn. You're either born with it, or you're not.
No way!!! I’ve been watching “In Rehearsal: Sutton Foster sings Anything Goes” all week and was going to ask you to do a video on it. You read my mind. Sutton is phenomenal!!!
You may not realise but the man standing next to Sutton at the beginning of the BBC video is also a Tony winner. His name is Robert Lindsay and he won Best Actor in a Musical for a show called Me and My Girl. That version of the show also starred Emma Thompson
Back when she was doing Millie she was a guest instructor at a Broadway singing workshop and I was her assistant. I got to spend some one on one time doing vocal warm ups with her and some acting and it was so FUN! She is the nicest, sincerest, funny woman I have met in the business. I have followed her journey ever since her first Tony.
I absolutely LOVE how you smile all the way through watching this. Sutton always brings a smile to people, she gives so much joy to everyone. I'm seeing Sutton in September in row B in the Stalls, up close and personal and I CAN NOT WAIT!! 😁😁 Thank you so much for uploading, I'm so glad I clicked on your video. You've just earned a subscriber.
My first reaction was “I wish I could fly to England just to see this live. Damn!” I never got to see her do this on Broadway and wish I could have. I think the British promo number was done in one take, lip-synched, and with a lot of cameras. You can’t fake the angle of the sun in an outdoor performance, and that was clearly done live on a morning show. I actually thought she looked *better* with her natural hair color in 2021 than she did with the blond wig in 2011.
So good! I love Anything Goes! Our theater program did it in high school and they had a live band on stage, which I got to be a part of! It honestly was so much fun to do that show and I really miss it.
I am such a massive fan of Sutton. She’s one of the reasons I’m going into acting. I did think the very last note was a little bit off but she did say she was rusty and as a performer myself I can understand it’s been a while for us all. And we all get rusty. And it’s been 10 years since she did Reno!! I can’t wait to see her in London! Amazing woman! She never disappoints.
I went to see her in anything goes on Sunday (25/7/21) she was unbelievable and by far my favourite musical actress (sorry idina, youve been topped, sutton, you're the top) i am totally down for the movie version of this with sutton in the spotlight, if i lived in london i would be there every night, travelled 3 1/2hrs each way just to see this and well worth the 7hrs drive for an amazing show its been nearly a week and im still grinning from ear to ear and got to see her after giving hugs and kisses to her adorable daughter!!!!!!
i really really love sutton came accross this also by accident three weeks ago i am determined to travel from ireland to go and see this show come what may
Sutton always delivers. She has that clean, unblemished, classical Broadway sound that I love. I never have to worry if she is going make that high more which allows to relax and enjoy everything else she does. The ultimate triple threat. Thank you and I cannot wait (bit I am waiting) for that video that is all about you.
the best thing about watch the 2 videos back to back is seeing that the choreography is the same. Kathleen Marshal genius doing all over again!! i will die to go to London and seeing sutton doing the show this summer. BTW the number actually is 8 minutes long in the show.
Im so envious that she’s reviving in the West End and I cannot go to see her! She taps so perfectly without barely moving her legs where everyone around her is high kicking to get the moves out. What a gem!
Just catching up with your channel. Thankyou. It doesn’t matter how many different videos I watch her singing this. She’s absolutely on point every time and as a fresh as a daisy. You’re so right she is perfect, a natural for this character. Not to mention the other dancers.. the way she flirts with sailors, it’s everything a big number requires.
The One Show is iconic here in the UK, during the pandemic they've had loads of musical theatre performances. Love it. Also Sutton looks younger than I am and I'm 28 haha, and how can she dance so perfectly in those shoes?!? she's amazing I need to see it but corona makes things so complicated 😷 Did you know Georgie Ashford is in this too in London?
I love the tap battle between Brian Darcy James and Christian Borle in Bottom’s gonna be on top from Something Rotten. Speaking of Something Rotten, the Tony’s performance of ‘A Musical’ would be a great song for you to review.
I absolutely agree with every single word of praise you have for Sutton Foster. A truly phenomenal performer. She makes it seem so natural and easy that anybody should be able to do this. Heh. NOT! I am forever in awe of anyone that can perform those kind of demanding, grueling numbers in a live performance eight times a week. Let alone perform with such consistency, style and genuineness. I am a forever Sutton Foster ardent fan. And I can’t wait til the movie comes out. 😍
Thanks for another great video and thank you for your positivity - so many channels go down the negativity route and I love that you don’t and that any criticism you make is thought out and explained. In a world of negativity this is a joy - and now more than ever we need musical theatre. On a separate note, I came across a movie that May pique your interest if you have not already seen it. To set it up. What could be better than a Christmas movie; a Christmas musical. How can you make that even better? A Christmas musical set in a Zombie apocalypse (a zombie, Christmas musical if you will) - “Anna and the Apocalypse”. Interesting film with what I found to be nice catchy songs. Worth a brief watch at the very least. Thanks again.
In addition to agreeing with every praise you have heaped upon the great Sutton Foster, I would add that she has one of the most infectious smiles ever.
I don't think I've ever seen anything that she did or does that was not outstanding and this is certainly no exception! Loved your comments and loved the video!
This was amazing. I wish you would cover something from Crazy For You. I saw it many years ago, and I never hear anything about it. The amazing energy and song-and-dance is phenomenal. This performance by Sutton Foster was flawless. I'd love to see a revival as well.
A film of the London stage show was broadcast by the BBC on Boxing Day, so one had the opportunity to record it. For anyone with access to the BBC iPlayer it is available to stream.
