    I just picked up a 93’ rover 216 with 56k on the clock. I never expected to be interested in rovers but now I own one they are special!

    Incredible condition! I had no idea that they were available in such a low spec, not even a rev counter on this example! It's a shame these didn't sell better on the continent, the car certainly had deserved it.

    Wow this is rare. I used to sell these new. Going by the colour - Rattan beige - this car must be a phase 1 from approx 84 - 86. The later Sandalwood beige was, to my eyes, much nicer. Originally it would have been sold with no wheel trims and the seat fabric was the same as that in the base Metro, Maestro and Montego. The stereo was originally a push button radio. Incidentally, the front seats are identical to those in the face-lifted Metro from iirc the 86 model year. This is a gem for someone.

      In the description it says it's Sandalwood and was registered in June 1988 so must be an "E" plate car. The earlier cars didn't have the reverse lights either IIRC; this is nice though!

      @@turquoisecat761 the lighting threw me it seems. Actually i think the centre console might be a post 85 addition. Either way its a proper time warp piece and very rare.

    Looks like a 1986 Honda Civic Sedan from the outside. I remember the time when my dad drives this car growing up in Canada.

    In South Africa, they were sold as a Honda Balade, the main difference being the front end. Interior, engine, and the rest look the same . Undercover Japanese Rover. One English car that will probably never leak oil.

    Very nice and left field. A driving school local to me used two of these in circa 1986. The view count for this video will exceed most of the videos from the last few months in no time! A girlfriend had a white one around 1995, it was a higher spec with wood and leather, prob a VP!

    Beautiful. But so forgotten! I can remember these and the 216 variant. However, they are not that memorable, despite the bootlid spoiler.

    My cousin's grandad had the pre facelift 213 and loved the Honda engine it had because it never went wrong. They have a strange exhaust system as it has 2 backboxes but one tailpipe.

      Honda engineered with a Honda engine and widely regarded as superior to a lot of the mainstream competition at the time. Or a poxy Rover as you say.

      @@GadgetMart I read honda used the rover suspension going forward on the ballade, so there's that. Plus all the road reviews of the time were in rovers favour..
      So you owned the triumph and the SD3?
      Essentially they were both designed by the same people and built by the same people. I'd love to know what made one "100% better"?
      I have only experience of the SD3

      Tiny interior but nice drive
      Then the 1986 213s 1342cc 12v
      Interior quality was way above Ford at the time. Much later I owned an Orion and there was utterly no competition.
      The rover was dreadful to drive despite the lusty (but small) engine.
      After that I bought a gen 2 prelude. That was magnificent
