As a prepubescent teen my awakening came when my sister's boyfriend gave me a tape of Lloyd Cole and the Communions. Such an awakening! And yet his sister, whom I had a major crush on, gave me many mix tapes on The Stone Roses, REM, Sisters of Mercy etc. God, such great time! But also such intensity of emotion! And all the same time helping me through school, where my best friend callously ditched me because I wasn't growing physically. I looked like a child. So crazy when the guys he "moved on to" were more interested in me because we were listening to the same music! I hope real music will always reach the places beyond convention. If it didn't, I think I wouldn't know be alive today.
Another case of an excelent composer and a poor singer. One can even say he has a great voice in that it sounds good, but he simply sings out of tune. Anyway, thank you so much for so many wonderful tunes, LLoyd Cole!
