I had the privelege of being one of his students during Stan's classes for 3 years. I specifically remember his class about the Narmer palette. I used to love his teaching style. Respect.
Why does the first presenter say that hippo and crocodile hunting would have had little economic significance? Wouldn't it be quite damaging to crop production to have the farmers eaten and scared by crocodile? Or to have the hippos eating the crops? Or would hippos not have caused any issues to the Egyptian farms?
I don't get it: why putting Hor-Aha as the first pharaoh of dynasty 1 when the egyptians of the first dynasty themselves recognized Narmer as their founder ??? (see the seals of Den and Qaa with the first dynasty king list starting explicitely with Narmer)
There are multiple different and in some ways equally correct ways to work with Egyptian chronology. If they approaching the chronology from an artistic standpoint with artistic divisions (as you can well imagine that they might be with this being from the Met) then it stands to reason that they're book ending certain art periods using the names of kings as easy labels rather than an art piece of some sort. Even still, as I understand there is reason to debate whether or not Narmer can be considered a proper dynastic king.
@@ophiolatreia93 Yes but he wasn't a member of the first dynasty. He is among the pre-dynastic kings, who ruled over parts but likely not all of Egypt. That said, I suspect some of them could have been called dynastic kings, had writing been invented earlier so we would have more info on them. Iry-Hor is the earliest whose name we know

They call it the dark ages because there is literally no information no writing no recordings nothing. that is exactly why it is literally called the dark ages just like the Renaissance age is called the Renaissance because that is when everything started to flower again for people in life in Europe and there is plenty of documentation to be found in the renaissance age. When it comes to this particular historian is telling us he can’t completely guarantee everything but there is a lot of consensus between people who study all of the stuff who spent years and years and years and years looking at these things and trying to figure out what these things mean. Some of the stuff is a best guess and some of it is confirmed because things match up with stuff from later dates
@@jasondonato5656 "Literally no information". Listen friend, there is much more evidence of medieval dark age practices and customs than there is regarding pre-dynastic/ old kingdom. It's not even close.
I am but a lay observer... However I would still like to put forth a theory(does it already exist?) regarding a partial usage case for the great pyrimids. For 70 days there was a purgatory like state that the body of the pharaoh (people generaly?) would be placed in until burial/entombed. This may have been the usage, in part. Likely there were various aditional attributes of the buildings themselves. What does anyone else think about the idea of the great pyramids having been built in stages. Making them multiple buildings representing multiple iterations of culrural practice built one ontop of another?
There have not been any mummies found to confirm the Pyramids of Giza were ever intended at a Pharoh's Tomb. That is 100% Theory. And the Great Pyramid may and is thought by some academics, to predate the others - they attempted to copy it. The Sphinx has been proven to be at least 11,000 years old, by Geologists and hundreds of other Geologists confirm this - erosion marks from rain water and rain in that area necessary to accomplish these predates the Dynasties. The Pyramid is one of many that fall on a point. - Ley-line that encircled the globe. Mainstream Archaeologists are unreasonably irnoring of the Math and Science that these facts present. Facts - but they continue to promote 19th Century ideas.
