Firstly, "American" is a nationality whereas the Young Turks were a political movement (I'm assuming you know who they were: if not, look them up), so your comparison makes about as much sense as conflating Nazis with Germans. Which is none.
Secondly, the point being made is that they have aired several videos calling for the Redskins team to change their name because of the historical connotations even although I very much doubt the team's members and fans make the same connection. I.e. It holds a "different meaning", as you put it. Which makes them hypocrites even by your logic.

Cenk has a long history of Armenian Holocaust denial that spans decades and refuses to call it Genocide to this day. The fact is in college Cenk tried to defund the Armenian Club for their advertisements and protests saying that the Armenian Holocaust was Genocide. Cenk then chose to write a long article denying that it was Genocide. Then he named his show after the perpetrators of that Genocide. After that he wrote two articles denying that what happened was Genocide, one that he wrote to Salon and the other that was longer and more explicit that he placed on The Young Turks website. In 2006 Cenk dropped out of a gig because of the protests from the Armenian Community and a year later he hired his Uncle Tom, Ana Kasparian. She's been lying about Cenk's Genocide denial ever since and has sold out her community in the process. It's been lucrative for her, but I pity her more than anything. Armenians have been protesting ever since, for example in 2012 at the Democratic Progressive Caucus and at every college they've visited with Fusion. The Armenian community has issued press release after press release on this issue
The Young Turks need to stop being hypocrites, Cenk and Ana agreed with a law banning the use of the Redskins name for a sports team because it is offensive to the Native American community, now they need to face up to Cenk's Genocide denial and change the name of their show and quit belittling and insulting the Armenian community. We wouldn't accept a show called The Nazis or The SS founded by a Holocaust denier, so we shouldn't accept The Young Turks founded by Cenk Uygur an Armenian Holocaust denier.

AK K I disagree, she said she didn't agrue with the fact it's genocide; but that's also not the topic of the discussion. Had the guy simply accepted her answer rather then trying to control the debate, he could have kept his seat. Had the topic been conflicts over seas, then Ana and the rest of the folks on stage may have been more willing to have a more detailed discussion on the topic. What happened here is intentionally disingenuous. If you see the full video they did not "show up and protest." A member of the group asked a question (which he was allowed, questions were handed to the room) and Ana went off which sparked the entire issue.

To anyone who agrees with the "alternative meaning" argument in support of TYT name, please answer this question:
Would you also support people who wave the confederate flag and call themselves rebels or good ol' boys? Of course, not because they support the actions of the Confederacy, but because of their regional pride and loce of states rights.
I grew up in rural New England and would often see people with confederate flags on their lawns or as bumper stickers. These people did not hate african americans, but were simply displaying a twisted sense of regional pride and rejection of government. This, despite the fact that we lived in a state that sent thousands to fight and die against secession.
I always found this support of the confederate flag to be ridiculous. It doesn't matter what the flag means to you, or what it means to some southerners, when the historical reality is that the flag represented a violent attempt to hold on to slavery and racism.
It is hard for me to see "The Young Turks" differently. Just as I don't think the people in my hometown flying the confederate flag were doing so out of hate, I don't think TYT keep their name in support of the genocide. But the fact still stands that despite the alternative western definition, history does not lie; and history shows that The Young Turks were an aggressively Nationalist and genocidal political group.
When I was a child I learned the word "gyped" as a way to say "scammed". I was taught this word by people who had no knowledge of the way this word evolved from "gypsy", or even that "gypsy" was a slur to refer to a real ethnic group known as the Romani.
So, let me ask in a different way: when I learned the history of "gyped", should I have continued to use it despite it's historical context? Is it ok to use a term that justifies or trivialized the suffering of an entire ethnic group, simply because some people in the past didn't understand the full story?
If I was an Armenian I would honestly be insulted that there is a group of so called progressives fervently trying to co-opt a name of a group that genocided my people into something positive, in clear disregard to well established history.
I simply could not imagine associating myself with a group named after such an awful chapter in human history.
This is to say nothing of the fact that the genocide is still denied by the government that perpetrated it, or that TYT founder had written essays also denying the genocide. If Cenk truly felt regret for his actions and beliefs, why does he not make a clean break from a name that is permanently stained with the blood of millions?

+imnodog Going after Ana is sort of unjust, they're using her to attack TYT, not so much her imo. In reality they're using her to make one step forward and hurt TYT. Ana is unfortunately just a martyr. However it is a very real and justified argument to make against Cenk who like you said stated and defended that the genocide did not happen. Even after he grew up a bit, he only said he couldn't comment on it with any confidence on whether it did or did not happen. The fact that he does that when there is indeed much evidence and history on the subject is bizarre, and only makes it seem as if he can't actually admit it existed. If Cenk was on that stage and/or we didn't have that dumb lackey pulling the microphone before the original student could phrase his question after the premise, we'd probably be seeing a much different outcome and it could show TYT being intellectually honest, or at least moreso than what we got. Trust me, that original video clip not from this perspective made me much more disappointed in TYT than ever before.
To restate the point of this comment, if Cenk comes out and admits the genocide happened, none of this would be happening to the degree it is, and furthermore, anything that came after his admittance would be dismissed as a part to discredit and not actually engage in finding out more information. Also, sure there was a genocide perpetrated by Turkey against Armenians among peoples. That said, TYT is right about the meaning of that name in a colloquial, slang sense. Young Turk whether the Armenian or other communities take offense or not has a different meaning to many Turks and many others that has nothing to do w/the genocides. You can't just censor that name from its core meaning even in the historical context of the post-WWI world. Fact is Turkey under Attaturk had its own secular nationalist revolution that threw out the Allied powers who were occupying their country after they carved up the Ottoman Empire. If they hadn't Turkey might no longer exist as an independent country. Further saying they can't use the name "Young Turk" is a bit like saying one can't use the term German, Italian or Japanese for the genocides those countries committed against Jews, Romanis, Koreans, Chinese, etc. It isn't a simple synonym for national socialism, nazism, fascism, white power, kkk, etc. b/c of that. The context in Turkey's case even at the time is therefore different from these comparisons this strain of Armenian nationalism therefore makes, which are at least thus partly inaccurate if not misleading. Lastly, I'd point out the US itself might be guilty of as many or more campaigns of genocide than any of those countries if you look through its history, hell there'd be no US if not for genocide on Native Americans, nor the mass enslavement of Afro-descendant labor. So does that make all uses of young USians/Young Americans equally offensive? I don't have a problem w/

But I think that acknowledging the genocides Turkey committed is sufficient in this case. You can keep demand they change their name, but it'll neither work nor will you gety public opinion on your side in the long run I think in this case b/c the term has a different meaning (multiple ones) and you therefore don't get a monopoly on defining the term nor its usage.
