For us Chinese, it's common to give our newborn babies a haircut at the end of the first or fourth month. It's just our tradition and we will use their hair to make it into those calligraphy brushes for keepsake. The haircut is totally harmless to the baby if you use the correct tool. Babies hair grow out well after the haircut too.
Omg he is so cute! Funny. my baby is going through a balding phase too, he's close to looking like your baby before the haircut :) Mine is only four months though, I am trying to put off cutting his hair as much as possible :)
