While I personally think the design at (9:43) is a tad more polished and striking, the final decision is lightyears ahead of its predecessor, and even stands above most US State flags and a few national flags. Kudos to these guys for handling the call-out and responding with flying colors. (The pun was too good to ignore sorry)
The flag is good for a city flag. It they had made it simpler it would have also been a good brand. The monstrorsity they had before realy sucked. Also a small critique, they had the chance to avoid silver touching gold but didn't. Kind of weird but I guess flags science is different from heraldery in that regard. Plus, own city's flag violates that heraldic rule too.... basically because the Count of the Mark used red and silver checkers on a golden shield in his code of arms...Kinda like Punk moment in his times I guess.
"...snidely asked if we just used a bunch of colored blocks to design our flag." But I can bet they absolutely love the flag of the United States, which is just a big combination of blocks. Blocks and some stars. The only important thing is that the arrangement of those blocks mean something, not just to the people that the flag represents, but to others. It's also a lot better if your design is so simple a child could reproduce it in crayon and you can still know what it represents. You want people to care for a city, make them proud to fly the flag starting early. I keep forgetting what my city flag is, and then every few months I stumble upon the Vexilloligy TED talk video and get disappointed by looking it up again.
It's admirable how instead of "being offended by criticism", they took it seriously, made the research, asked the public, called for professionals, had meaningful and passionate conversations about it and ended with a great result!
For anyone curious, the flag received an A grade from the North American Vexillological Association, the second higheset grade possible (A+ being highest).
7:04. This one Can be sent to the state congress so they approve this one as the state flag.... (Of any of the 25ish "stamp the seal on a blue fabric" state flags)

I am so relieved that Pocatello finally got such a badass flag.
It's such a relaxing flag.

So this is a TED talk about a process started by a TED talk?.
btw, great flag.
TEDception! Well, it's a good talk though.
YES. Btw Milwaukee fixed its flag in 2016. Phew!
Dear Pocatelo - You guys knocked this out of the park, great great great re-design. AN 11!!
It's admirable how instead of "being offended by criticism", they took it seriously, made the research, asked the public, called for professionals, had meaningful and passionate conversations about it and ended with a great result!
Roman Mars got his win. Love me some 99PI.
Nicely done. It's hard to think of how Pocatello could have gone through that process better.
6:33 I hope this is made in to mural somewhere in the city one day
Okay! To that one lady who laughed the hardest at everything. You alright?
She likes him probably
Hahaha, I know kinda over the top. But I guess sometimes we are.
The new flag is so cool. Well done Pocatello.
Liked just for the "Run it up the flagpole" remark. Nicely done.
That's a badass flag =)

Pocatello is awesome!! Especially if you like outdoor recreational sports
If you are a fan of outdoor sports it is world class
My state recently went through the flag redesign process. You would be surprised how heated it can get!

Vexillology videos always make me proud to be from Saint Louis, Missour! (I'm talking about the city flag of course. Don't remind of our state flag)
New Missouri flag is definitely an improvement!
This was a great ted talk, thank you for this!
6:02 you know, the thing
meanwhile in Milwaukee...........
They have a new one too actually! Google it, its pretty nice
@@theargonaught44 yep, love that 2016 redesign...
Too bad many people disliked it...
The old flag was a crime against humanity
Here from alternate history hub’s video on the world’s worst city flags
Proud to be Captain Marvel
Nice Captain Marvel flag...
Great 👏👏👏🇱🇧🇺🇸
Chapadão do Céu has the worst flag
Wow. That's. Wow.
O nome do município deve ser homenagem ao chapadão que desenhou a bandeira.
Pocatello:. Great flag but still a boring middle of nowhere town
