Yes RCA outs would make it a very good product, 100 percent agreed. I really dislike 3.5mm plugs, noisy, the connection wears out with time, should be baned from normal audio equipment other than portable devices.
Ordered mine in march. coming in today I'm so exited. My dad got one the first day it came out and actually got it on time. The results were insane, so I cant wait
@@TheFrugalAudiophile The one advantageous has is the autotune capability. That's one thing I don't believe the mini DSP has yet. Gray said I do like how the mini DSP is compatible with REW.
123Toid Yes, that is one feature this device does have over the mini DSP. It is nice that you can use our EW with the mini DSP though. In order to get auto calibration with it though you have to spend nearly $400 to get DIRAC On the 2 x 4 HD.
Could I use one of these with a full range input say from a tape or pre out to control a pair of bass woofers in an open baffle set up? Or is it only for a LF sub output from an amp or receiver?
Yeah. I think that's the sticking point right now. From the people I've spoke to, you can use it for two subwoofers if they are the exact same. I'll look into testing that. Are yours the same or different? I'll ask around and see if I can come up with an answer.
Worrying about the cables lol you can buy nice 3.5mm to RCA cables. If it had RCA it would be twice the size probably. And because it's a value unit, then you'd have to complain about the "cheap RCA terminals" on it
Besides an auto tune function I wonder what you’re really missing on the $85 open minidsp2x4 bare ‘kit’ version? We can consider the cost the same once buying cables to adapt 3.5.
And since the Dayton is backordered indefiniteky(4/29 has changed from 5/29 but that looks to be changing to?? While minidsp is currently available now).
So I just ordered this DSP and I have a couple mono 3.5 to single phonos laying around but I noticed you used a stereo version. Will the mono ones work? seeming as I'm using smsl sa300 and the sub out is only mono I think.
It would be great if u can 1 more video on its auto correct functionality and your feedback also controls on iOS If u have used. MiniDSP 2x4 what diff u feel is between them cause at 2x4 kit is under 100 buck and manages 4 subs
Yeah the MinisDSP is awesome, especially at it's price point. I will do a full review. I just want to get someone over here with an iphone, so I can compare and contrast the Android/iphone experience.
I didn't see it on the iWoofer page, but I wonder if it will accept a calibration file. If it does, you could use an iMM-6 www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-imm-6-calibrated-measurement-microphone-for-tablets-iphone-ipad-and-android--390-810 and the problem would be solved. Well, except for porting the full version to Android... That's the mic I got over Christmas. I'll let you know how I like it when I get it set up. "But that's another $17!" "Yeah, but I saved $400 - $700 by not buying an Apple."
a few things. Those RCA 3.5mm likely measure just as well as any "high-end" option you seek out. 2nd, the reason why one is right angle is to allow options for the user, better to have one when needed that not have one at all. 3rd, the reason why its male ends is cause many people would leave the dsp unit by the sub, which would go right into the FEMALE RCAs on it. 4th, having a single RCA input would require the user to acquire an additional L/R combiner, a proper one, not just a Y cable.
It doesn’t make any sense to use 3.5 mm when all of your audio equipment uses RCA. From your receiver, you have a single RCA labeled a low frequency effect (LFE) output for a subwoofer. Your subwoofer also typically has one single RCA input for LFE. No, it doesn’t really matter if you have the DSP close to your subwoofer or your surround sound receiver. No matter what you’re going to have to convert that RCA to a 3.5 mm cable on both ends. It just doesn’t make sense to make it a 3.5mm on the unit and definitely not a 3.5 mm stereo cable since you’ll need to in most surround sound environments change that to mono. it would make a lot more sense to just have two female RCA ports. That way you can just run an RCA cable from the back of the surround sound receiver into this unit and then out of this unit to the subwoofer amplifier. There might be some cases where a 3.5 mm is more appropriate, but for normal surround sound use it’s not..
@@Toid perhaps they wanted to keep the footprint of the device static and left no room for RCAs on the PCB. I know it doesn't matter where you keep the dsp, but I, and probably many others, would just leave it behind the sub. This thing isn't just for home theater usage with LFE, they also made it for those who are 2.1 or 2.2, like me. Why handicap the product when all it takes is to allow for integration of a stereo signal with a 3.5mm jack? I'm not some audio guru, just an engineer who understands the manufacturing process of devices like these and to make it as flexible as possible to the broadest user base.
@@DescartesRenegade that is a good point. The only issue is the application only works with a mono subwoofer. So even if you do use two subwoofers, it’s going to DSP them as one. So you won’t be able to properly get the delay between the two subwoofers, correct. And since it doesn’t work for stereo speakers, but it’s designed for just subwoofer application, it doesn’t really make a lot of sense to make it stereo. The only real application I could see someone using two outputs is if the subwoofers are directly next to each other. Or if you use a stereo amplifier to power your subwoofer. Then in that case you could use really any amplifier you want and just use this for your high pass and low pass. Although once again, you would probably only be using one output on the amplifier, so that probably wouldn’t help either. Either way, I think you’re right, they did it mainly to keep the small footprint.
@@Toid but what if I want the sub to be as flat as possible to fill in the 2ch low end? Sure, the delay wouldn't be exact, but still better and FR can be flatter
@@DescartesRenegade you’d be better off getting a mini DSP, and using some thing like multi sub woofer optimizer in conjunction with a measurement mic.

There shouldn't be any hum. The only reason why you'd get a hum is if there was an RCA end that wasn't connected to anything. So for example if you use a 3.5 mm to RCA cable that was a stereo cable and one of those ends is not hooked up... You could get a humming sound.
