    I bought one of these at the end of 2017. It’s going on 7 years old now as my main felling and ground saw with a 2 foot bar. I’ve run just about every saw worth mentioning, and while the 680 isn’t the zippiest and lightest, it’s one of my favorite machines. It’s built better than any modern saw in the last 20 to 30 years.

    I have 3 echoes I cut firewood for a living I made a processor and the 680 is set up on it and I’ve literally cut hundreds upon hundreds of cords of wood with it no major problems great power saws

      Thanks for the comment, the 680 has been great for me too. Been using a 27 inch bar, thinking about going to a 24 inch to cut alittle faster. What size bar on yours, and what chain type/make?

      Have had a 680 for 6or7 years now. Been muffler modded. Cuts fastest with a 24” bar and a skip chain, helps keep the rpm’s up and cuts thur big oak really nice.

    FWIW. I bought an Echo CS 620 PW about 3 months ago after my little Husky 350's main bearing began to fail. The Echo isn't that much larger than my antique Husky 55 (69.8cc vs 53.5) but its different and I love it. Like the 55, it starts right up with just a few pulls. I run a 27 inch bar with ease and I totally love the torque. I use it mainly for dropping large, dead madrones (up to 22" x ~70') which are very dense and great for firewood. I completely agree that Echo is a lot of saw for the money. Thanks for the 680 review.

      Thank you for your comment, I've been thinking about getting the Echo 620 with a 24 inch bar with a wrap handle for felling. I've heard the air filter isn't the best with the 620 , what do you think about the air filter, are you happy with it over the time you've had it? Thanks

      @@NSAHWoodlandLiving I found more dust past the filter than I wanted, so I ordered a Geared kit th-cam.com/users/shorts9MwVx_KRLLQ.
      It should assuage my concerns, but we'll see. (Fire season restrictions closed me down until recently. I should know more in a month or two.).

    I just bought this saw yesterday. I’ve always bought and used Husqvarna as well. This is my second Echo. I still like Husqvarna but the dealer moved and is to far so I’m glad I found these saws. I find they work as well as the Husky. Like you said I’m going to go with a 592/395 husky but have this saw as well. Like you said It’s great to have a big saw when you need it. Great review, I think I’m going to be happy with it. $680 USD is a lot cheaper than here in eastern Canada. I paid $769 USD for my saw with a 24” bar/chain on it and nothing else. I’m happy with that though. They normally retail for $940 USD.

    It is time for another saw and in this economy a couple hundred extra bucks is a hard pill to swallow so I am looking long and hard at echo.
    The 620 or 680 are both looking pretty good for my needs. I cut about 20 cord of firewood each year plus clear a few trees for people. Living here in Montana we don't have the hard wood that others have, but I typically saw 20-30 inch diameter trees so a smaller saw is out of the question.
    Thanks for the review.

    The Echo 680 is around 30yrs old. Doesn't scream in rpm like the new ones do. But it can pull a long bar, 28in and longer, then the new ones do. For normal firewood, it can oull a 32in bar.

    I have bought 3 new Echo saws. One of them is a Echo 800 or 8000 series with a 24" bar & a 36" bar. I also have bought 2 new Echo 590 saws with 20" bars. They are nice saws. I bought a used Echo 352 for limbing. I have several Farmertec saws also . I have the Farmertec 660, Farmertec 281, & Farmertec 395 saws. They have been great also. I use 28" bars usually.Tge Farmertec saws are around 6 to 7 horsepower for around $315 to $400 dollars on Amazon.

      I have a 590 Echo and a 6200 Dolkita (Dolmar rebranded Makita). I love both saws. The Dolkita is a little faster on green wood. The Echo seems to have a little more torque in n really dry dense wood. Both get worked very hard. I don't fell many trees mostly bucking fire wood because I'm hooked up with a couple tree service guys. Both saws get run very hard and not a single complaint about either saw. My 590 is getting fitted with a 24" bar for Christmas and am looking forward to next spring to see how the saw handles a 24 inch rip😊

    As far as the bar tensioner my 670 and 680 have the relief cut in the case to retro fit the old style system behind the bar which I did on the 670. Yes I believe the echo is slower cutting than others brands however the reliability I have experienced has been hard to beat

    the price turned my head, especially when I studied the saw and realized that this is a solidly built saw and the manual oiler is the icing on the cake. I have no interest in the higher rpm saws and the price that goes with them, this Echo will still perform respectably even if it is not a high rpm screamer...that will also lead to a longer life for the saw.

    • @NSAHWoodlandLiving
      @NSAHWoodlandLiving  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have both a 562 and a 620p they perform the same but I paid 400 dollars less for my 620p from sawsuppliers and in the hand the 620p feels more powerful , but if upu need more power I'd just grab a 7310 from sawsuppliers it keeps up with my 394 and 395 no problem and if you get it ported it will out cut whatever you put in front of it echos are highly underrated

      @NSAHWoodlandLiving absolutely agree sawsuppliers is fantastic for their prices and customer service I've ordered 4 saws from then and plan to get a 680 from them at some point, I currently have on order a 592 from husky and I've been waiting almost 2 years for it to come in , however it's mostly just so that I can sell off my 562 because the 620 impressed me so much more than the 562 has not to say it's not a great saw , but the 620 just knocks it out of the park everytime I use it simple as that

    • @joehertel8846
      @joehertel8846 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @NSAHWoodlandLiving and if you haven't tried the 7310 yet I'd highly recommend it , it's my favorite saw that I currently own and I have a lot of them I have the entire 300 series of huskys and I will grab my 7310 99 times out of 100 over them unless I absolutely need a saw that can run a 36 inch bar or higher to do the job it's just that good of a machine

    The 680 is a great felling saw - it is its claim to fame (according to Echo). You’re mistaken about the clutch and the cover; at least mine is magnesium. The saw’s greatest downfall in my opinion is its lack of anti vibration (as compared to its modern counterparts). It is uncomfortable to operate in my old hands for long.

    My logger buddy had a 680 for half a year. He let my try it when we was cut down some big beeches. The 680 had a 20“ bar and was broken in very well what’s very important for this saw. When the 680 is broken in you can set it on 14200 rpm that is a lot of rpm for this ccm. Otherwise the 680 never got my buddy and me. To heavy for the size and also it haven’t enough power.

    • @NSAHWoodlandLiving
      @NSAHWoodlandLiving  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, I feel the saw is underperformed for its size. But being tuned from factory should give it longevity. I would rather have a Husky 372 or 572 but saved 400 bucks. Thanks for your comment.
