Thanks for the review but I would have liked to see a comparison of meats and fish prepared in both devices for an equal amount of time to compare!

I have both - The green egg cooks better because it can be cooked with more radiant heat i.e. more evenly and faster i.e more moisture but on the down turn I cannot take it with me in a camping trip and it cost a lot more..and can be broken if not looked after

I am looking for something lightweight and portable for sca competition. How hot can you get the Cobb? I would also be buying the grillgrate for it

You would love the Cobb I promise you. I have owned mine for many years and used it literally hundreds of times. It is very light and easy to carry around in its bag. It is extremely fuel efficient and easy to clean. I don't know exactly how hot it gets but I have the extension ring and have cooked many a chicken with zero issues. Steaks, burgers piece of cake. A realistic expectation though is it's really only big enough for two people despite claims of four or more. Three people would be pushing it in my opinion. It may seem pricey but when you consider how well built it is and how well it works it's actually a bargain. There's a lot to be said for no flareups...ever. As an added bonus there was a version that was popularized in the Renaissance period called Ye Olde Cobbe Grille.

It would be nice if the Cobb had vent controls on the lid.

We are glad that somebody is taking the Cobb Grill seriously. Most likely people look at it and think, "Well, it's just light weight." Which it is! However, we bought it BECAUSE of its lighter weight, it's versatility, its ease of moving while cooking, and the fact that it can be washed in the dishwasher.
Yes, the downside can be that it is harder to keep a high heat going particularly if it's very cold with lots of wind -- a wonderful reason FOR its light weight and move-ability. One must remember the historical beginning of the Cobb; it did not start in Alaska, rather it started in South Africa. (The traditional usage of corn cob, etc, for fuel.)
If people want the weight/high heat factor of the Green Egg -- great! However, don't complain when you have to lug 90 pounds everywhere with you, and when you have to clean it with a brush, soap, and water from a hose. (The problem with ants comes to mind; that's why we liked the Cobb how how it can go into the dishwasher.)

I have never had an issue with ants on any of the BGE's I own. What are you talking about???? Dishwashers just don't work out as a survival appliance. WTF????

2 layers of aluminum foil inside can make cobb more heat keeping. (sorry for my bad English)

My partner had the medium and large Green Rgg at his place. They are awesome for smoking? But not good for quick meals. They take a lot of coal, too.
I bout ya each a Cobb a few years ago. He hasn’t used his much but I use mine a lot. It is awesome for quick meals.
I think I may have recently converted him.
One diff: I love the grilling plate. It doesn’t sear dark enough for him. We found that he is happier using the roast rack for grilling. Now that he has discovered that he said he is going to start using it more.

How much is the big green egg mini

Since he did not reply, the mini MAX is about $550 and if taken care of will last a lifetime. I am definitely a fan of both but the BGE is so much more capable than the Cobb. Please keep doing research. Cheers!

*Excellent Grill.>>>**sau.pe/9I3F** We cooked 4 rib eye steaks with 11 pieces of charcoal and could have cooked for another hour. This grill is everything it claims and more. We are very pleased. It cleans up easy and carries easily in the provided bag.*
