Cacti and Sunburn : Cactus Farina, Exposed!
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 25 มี.ค. 2024
- What exactly happens when a Cactus - plants we normally think of as being able to take heat and intense sunlight - gets a sunburn? What are some of the elements that prevent Ultraviolet light from destroying plant cells and what happens when a plant that is grown in the cover of shade suddenly loses that shade and becomes exposed to the harsh sunlight of its habitat? What exactly is a "farina" and why do we keep beating you over the head with this term? Check out this short episode of Crime Pays to learn more.
Your contributions support this content. It sounds clichéd, but it's true. Whether it's travel expenses, vehicle repair, or medical costs for urushiol poisoning (or rockfalls, beestings, hand slices, toxic sap, etc), your financial support allows this content to continue so the beauty of Earth's flora can be made accessible to the rest of us in the degenerate public. At a time when so much is disappearing beneath the human footprint, CPBBD is willing to do whatever it takes to document these plant species and the ecological communities they are a part of before they're gone for good.

You sound like the chillest of dads ❤
I’m so depressed
peyote blue should be a crayon color
I've seen colours on it without names.....yet.
Same with psycward green
The rockhound in me wants to check those river rocks for agates. Encourage your kid to pick up pretty rocks and she'll have a lifetime of fun exploring sites like this.
Tough plants are always a joy to find in the wild. For me, finding Dudleyas here in SoCal is what really sparks joy.
Who knew plants get sunburns and they have their own sunscreen. What a world.
Thank You, that's awesome 😎👍
Here in the UK we have been going out, and removing Rhododendrons by Hand!!
It's been taking over a lot of the Wild land,
C'mon people, don't be lazy,,, get Rid of that Buffle grass,,, you Can Do it!!
Namasté 🙏🕊️
Andréa and Critters. XxX...
Damn, in the SE USA, people kill the native Rhododendron and plant Asian azaleas. Embrace the natives people!
You can make wonderful healthful tea from rhododendrons. Don't let it go to waste!
I never really understood how many successful desert adapted beans there are until I started watching your show. Keep it up! Good stuff!
Thanks for all information of farina in Lophophora, is cool the adaptation that cactus have.
Good day to be with the family🙂
I shoplifted a belt once from Marshall's back in 2010, and it's still going strong to this day.
Hearing the lil one reminded me of the end of The Big Lebowski, ...
"I happen to know that there's a little Lebowski on the way. I guess that's the way the whole darned human comedy keeps perpetuatin' itself, down through the generations, westward the wagons, across the sands of time until we-- aw, look at me, I'm ramblin' again. Well, I hope you folks enjoyed yourselves. Catch ya later on down the trail."
I like your style dude.
Thanks Tony....another great presentation.
That sunburned Loph looked like my shoulders after a weekend at the local clothing optional resort 😂
I don't know half of what this man is saying, despite speaking and understanding english. But it's nice to listen to and maybe learn a thing or two.
I’ve seen it happen to plants from big box stores that are put outdoors in full sun without first acclimatizing them
You always have the most fascinating videos! 👍
Looks like you got a better camera since the last time I saw a post. Awesome info and footage
Very nice cactuses it's crazy to me that some plants actually survive in such a hot dry place with shitty soil
Always a pleasure.
Get yourself an elastic belt, it changed my life.
Or a nice leather American made belt with a solid buckle
Or a recycled plastic belt that will help reduce environmental impact.
I have found suspenders to functionally perform better for me!
@@MrSquekersUPSB aw hell yeah for the suspenders, honestly way comfier. that is until you’re wearing a jacket and you have to take it off to take a shit lol
elastic belts are so incredibly comfortable its not even funny, im skinny so most belts dont have a loop that fits me good but with an elastic they fit perfect every time.
I didn't realize how much your subscriber count had risen. Damn, 317k. Fuckin well done.
Ordered a hoodie and it was literally the fastest delivery of all time, thanks
Bonus birding on this episode!
I know cacti aren't super happy indoors, but 15 years ago, my hubby bought me a "fairy castle cactus" from the drugstore. I'd love to identify its species, but from what I've found online, botanists aren't sure what species these cacti are. I guess they have some genetic mutation that makes them grow really...totuously? If that's a word? They aren't, to my knowledge, found in the wild. Next time it flowers (very rare)I'll have to take some pictures.
This channel is great. Kind of reminds me of Sabbatical, but with plants instead of different countries.
😎I Lichen this video
Random.....
Do you like using diatomaceous earth in your garden? Do you recommend it?
Man love your channel
Those yote flowers are niiice, banger alert!
Iam smiling watching these flora❤
Easy on the delivery guys! 😂
We just deliver the cheap shit!! 😂
Love ya man!! Great video!
I'm pretty sure sure the Rio Grande river cut through a lot more of central New Mexico as there are large wide flat basins
from Alamosa,CO south to El Paso,TX and is about 30 million years old. Only recently has it got to the Gulf of Mexico like
in the last 1.6 million years. Junior Santaro may want to be a geologist when he/she grows up so watch out. My guess is
there will be a channel called Crime Pays But Geology Doesn't in a couple of decades if YT is still around then . LOL
I think Tony/Joey has a daughter, but the same might apply to any future sons! In the present, Rachel of the "Geo Girl" channel ( www.youtube.com/@GEOGIRL/videos ) gives historical presentations but plans to do on-site analysis in the near future. She is doing her post-doc in South Carolina, but got her doctorate from UTEP!
Glad to hear that young voice with you.
I was just out looking at my lophs and noticed a little bit of burn on the sides but I think they're adjusting to more sun still
damn, so many interesting stones there!
Man between the cacti and the rocks I don’t know if I’ll make it very far
I could ID this guy in a lineup by his finger print.
Lophophora got baked!
Dennis Farina strikes again
You are amazing
I only buy belts made at my local leather shop. Amazon creeps me out.
Yeah they suck
Does anybody else feel dizzy and weird when the camera movies sideways fast?
Redwing also makes belts, good quality.
Hearing you almost swear is hilarious ❤
Lol at first i was like o this guy useing to many big words ..but i listen for a bit and he is kick ass 😂
You might be able to swap out the buckle and keep using the belt itself
Oooo glaucous and waxy. Nice!
thanks for the awesome bird feature at the end
That mustard and the bean both look like they got the Stenoclada memo.
send some of that Cenchrus ciliaris to me I am trying to get it established in my mixed native grass pasture in Durban
You can carry a 3yr old while working? Amazing🎉
Thrasher! What a cool bird name 🤘
The tool you were holding was a uniface, and it looked like rhyolite
I own a starr county seed grown loph! awesome.
You did pretty good for not liking your camera and busting out of your belt, haha! Really interesting as always.
16 minutes "short episode" lol 🤣
Is farina the same as glaucous bloom?
for a belt. I use a cargo strap with a "double d" buckle.
So the Smurfs lived somewhere with lots of sun?
🌵💚
If u spray the buffle(?) So close to the yote, will the glyphosate hurt the yote or does that chemical not impact them?
Nobody sprayed these lol. And you don't want to be spraying anything but the target species with herbicide, and only if it's a really bad invasive that's hard to remove by hand
@CrimePaysButBotanyDoesnt I was thinking about run off hitting non target plants..... I gather it's best use it sparingly and right at the base of the target to prevent cross contamination
If you want something done, Joey, you're going to have to assume that you have to do it yourself.
Ahh, thats why when the storm blew down our trees, my dragonfruit got burned on the side they normally got shade.
Do you think (along with sudden light exposure from cutting back the grass) that maybe water hitting the cacti from recent rains followed by blaring sun exposure may have accelerated the scorching?
Unlikely, since farina is hydrophobic
@@CrimePaysButBotanyDoesnt That makes sense . Thanks!
Just start a belt repair business, and repair belt pins with 16 penny nails.
Glad to see you managed to fertilize some ovaries yourself Tony, and produce a new generation of potential botanists!
tiquilia mockingbirdii
I'm Simple man see cacti click cacti ty
Looks like herbicide damage to me.
There wasn't any herbicide sprayed here.
💚🌴🌱 #sarasotaflorida
Chinesium belt buckle alert!
lol scamazon
You can fix that belt with a nail and a tiny bit of blacksmithing. That is if you know a black guy named Smith...😏✌️
Click belt holds whatever you got.
