After a partly frosty weekend with snow and black ice in many regions of Germany, the new week will start much milder. Temperatures are expected to rise to double digits in many places this Monday, according to the German Weather Service in Offenbach. In the Black Forest and in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, temperatures of up to 15 degrees Celsius are possible.
For the northeast, however, the DWD warned of freezing rain in the first half of the day. Drivers should expect slippery conditions, it said. During the night from Sunday to Monday, two trucks veered off the road on the A11 motorway in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, near the border with Poland. A police spokesman said that there were wintry conditions on the highway.
Frosty temperatures are also expected in southeast Bavaria on Monday morning, with values around minus two degrees. There were accidents due to slippery roads in many regions of Germany over the weekend.
In addition, it should remain stormy: rain showers and gusts of wind are expected in the north and west. Severe gusts of wind are possible on the Fichtelberg and in the Alps. On the coasts, there could also be gale-force gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour, and isolated gale-force gusts of up to 140 kilometers per hour on the Brocken.
