As a game designer I don’t really see an issue with devs taking inspiration from other games. It’s only an issue when it’s a fake copy which is a huge problem and hard for smaller studios to protect themselves against. Haiku, the robot looks like it’s kind of spin and props to the dev as it looks great for a one dev team especially as it’s his first game.
If games couldn’t take inspiration from other games Nintendo would be the only one making games. That and Doom because it was the first FPS or was that wolf? Anyways I agree
I've only put about an hour into Jack Move, but I'm already in love. Haiku, the Robot is something I've been keeping my eye on, so it's nice to hear it's worth my time. I love this series. I hope you guys keep it up.
The art style of astria ascending is just absolutely gorgeous. I've heard it's very hit and miss so I've been waiting for a very deep sale on it before picking up, but I'm starting to crack and may pick it up sooner than that!
Haiku The Robot looks like a great game, I will definitely be picking it up as soon as I can afford to. Hopefully it will get a sale by then, probably not but one can hope. I've recently started Steamworld Dig 2, can't believe it's been in my backlog so long. Haiku will be played as soon as I can get it.
My concern with Astria Ascending are crashes -- towards the latter part of the game, it just happens, consecutively with no reason. The first time I reach the last boss, the game crashed midway of the battle. I dunno if they've patched this up, but it definitely had a lot of potential for a greater game.
I am very glad that you have talked about Haiku, because, personally, it is one of my favorite metroidvanias and that I have played a lot. For those who still have doubts about the game; it's great, and don't be fooled by its strong influences on hollow knight, this game does propose its own game mechanics and gimmicks that make it feel unique. It's like Ion Fury, yes, it's certainly very inspired by Duke Nukem 3D, but it feels different in its own way. So in resume, give it a try, its a very very good game! Great video guys!
Haiku is awesome! It really is heavily inspired in Hollow Knight, but I think its different enough. Even if the mechanics are similar, the feel and pace are really different. Love your content. Cheers!
Just finished Bayonetta 1 the other day. Didn't come anywhere near 100%, but I really enjoyed it and I think we need more of those "big" shorter experiences. Not everybody has 50+ hours to sink into a gaming experience, you know?
I was far too old when I realised that Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles wasn't a universal name. I thought for the longest time that this was the name of the show and the movies made them Ninja Turtles. Still struggle to say it the right way!! Another great video. I've been juggling between very casual cosy games and the backlog of dip intoables on Switch (Ooblets, Bear and Breakfast, Death's Door, Coffee Talk) but it's been all about Return to Monkey Island for me, albeit on PC
Had a good time with Shovel Knight dig. I do agree I wish it was a bit longer, but on the flipside, it's also the first roguelike I can remember actually beating. Most of them I play for a while and make decent progress, but never stick with long enough to get all the way through. Thanks for the video!
As a Lead Game Developer, I’m incredibly impressed by Haiku. Nowadays a team of 30 people can make games a lot worse and less creative. A single beginner creating that is a masterpiece.
Rogue Trooper Redux was my very first digital purchase on the switch. it's a pretty fun 3rd person shooter... I've got my eyes on Haiku the robot and might pickup Moonscars but I have a feeling it might get a physical edition so I'll hold off til then..

Just got round to playing the first Bioshock after I picked the collection up cheap months ago. I did play and finish it at release on the 360- but it's a joy to re-experience and made a good chunk of a 9 hour flight vanish.
My biggest complaint about shovel knight dig is the hit boxes on the spikes on the levels. There might be some other hit box issues, but right now, not being able to progress past the 2nd stage, the spikes are absolutely frustrating
Rogue trooper was such an underrated gem. I played it during ps2 era, Playing the Redux version on switch with such a good graphics still blows my mind
Although Netherlands is also from Nintendo Europe, we never got the same censorship as Germany. Blood was always red, only on the gameboy it wasn't. The biggest example was Carmageddon: German censorship: Pedestrians and cows were changed to robots that will not move. Blood was removed. Running over robots causes black oil to spill. UK censorship: Pedestrians and cows were changed to zombies. Blood was recoloured green.
Can I just say how good Dicey Dungeons is!!!!! One of the best Deck-builders I have played and it doesn’t even have cards in it. Had it in the backlog for ages and now I can’t put it down. Great spin on my favourite game genres.
I got Wingspan on a whim when it was on sale. I like digital board games and this one is really good. I feel like this game would be a difficult one to set up/put away and learn the rules to in the real life version. Having it digitally makes it a perfect little game to pick up when I want a relaxing 30-45 minute gaming session. If you are not into digital card games/board games this one is probably not for you, but if you are, this one is excellent.
Just so you know, since the cardboard ver. of Wingspan was designed by an actual scientist, it is surprisingly easy to set up and break down (the box itself even has a diagram for how to reload the game!) so if you're a boardgame enthusiast or want to get into them, Wingspan is a lovely way to start. It is beautiful and the egg pieces are adorable and fun to mess with.
I been playing story of seasons olive town. Started it on the weekend and im hooked. I love farming sims and this game is so much fun. Im really focused on building my farm making out the layout. Honestly this is better than animal crossing new horizons. New horizons is great, but olive town just succeed more than it. I enjoy decorating my farm and plus i love my animals. I love my animals. Plus the fact yu can get a dog just makes it better. The fishing minigame is fun. Its really enjoyable. Puts the stardew valley one to shame. All in all its a superb game and i love it

Working on a couple games right now, Helheim Hassle and Lost Words. They're both 2D adventure games, though Helheim is more puzzle based, and has a funny bone to it, where as Lost Words is more sad and dramatic. I just finished Inmost this morning, and I highly highly recommend it. It's about 3 hrs, and can be finished in a single sitting, without realizing how much time has passed.
Very interesting picks and all games I have my eye on. I felt the same as Mark with astria I couldn't get in to the story when I tried it on game pass. This game goes for a good price these days so might give it a second chance. Haiku reminds me of kunai and looks lovely!
My last games were the Messenger which combines 8bit and 16 bit with brilliant platforming and humour and 3000th duel which quite delivered as a 2;5D soulslike.
Two issues I had with Astria were the loading between areas and the issue with items not giving the correct or any amount of its values - such a beautiful game - I hope to get it later if issues are fixed
I remember the censorship back in the day, my favorite game was called Carmageddon, the developers had to recode the blood from red to green and re-release it

I think Dredd started filming a few months before The Raid - even though The Raid was released first. It's not really fair to say Dredd was based on The Raid. Great channel though guys. Keep up the content. 👍
Dredd started filming in November 2010 and had a much longer shoot. I remember reading somewhere that principal photography on The Raid was less than 2 weeks! The version of The Raid shown at TIFF had the original Indonesian score, and wasn't the full western release edit. Try as I might, however, I can't find confirmation to back up my claim that Dredd began filming first. 😉
Jack Move looks right up my alley. If you liked that I would massively recommend Cosmic Star Heroine, would love to see your take on that, it's really good
Hey guys, these days hardly anything is banned in Germany anymore. Even Swastikas in games are allowed as long as they aren’t glorifying Nazis. Brutality is hardly ever censored anymore either, a lot has changed in recent decades over here.
Astria Ascending looked really promising but had a really bad launch plagued with bugs that made it unplayable, which put a lot of people off and drove down its metacritic score. Personally i enjoyed it as much as i could at launch but with the bugs like: Textures/backgrounds not loading, fights crashing, falling thru the floor of maps, menu freezes/crashes I only got to the 2nd dungeon before i put it down.
Zombies ate my neighbours was my first video game and I think it’s absolutely fantastic. I wouldn’t recommend it more. I still play it all the time, and so does my older sister. I’m still awful at it but I adore it so much.
This is a random comment but I recently got a steam deck and absolutely love it. Do you guys plan on possibly making a “Deckedup” channel? I’d love to see that.
I was going to buy Astria Ascending when it came out. I found the art style that gorgeous, but I got a trial for gamepass and the game was there for me to try it. The game was as gorgeous as I thought it would be, but after playing it for a few hours the rest game did not entice me enough to keep playing it. I still think I may get it someday, but whenever I look at my backlog...
Angry Video Game Nerd I & II is what I have been playing lately, and it's actually a great couple of games. It stay true to the type of games the Video Game Nerd HATES, but it's also very enjoyable. Not too hard and not too easy because of the difficulty levels you can switch between. I highly recommend them, but a warning.......not for kids lol.
Love this series! Feel like I keep banging on about this in the comments (I apologise SwitchUp community!) but as I fractured my spine in 6 places and have an approx 3 months recovery ahead of me, I've crazily dived deep into Disney Dreamlight Valley. Perfect chill game with no fast twitch response needed. Also got Bear & Breakfast & The Wild at Heart waiting on my Switch home screen for me too 👍
Haiku looks awesome! Just started college so not much free time, but when I can I've been switching between Graveyard Keeper and A Link Between Worlds! I would recommend both, but have to say ALBW is turning out to be one of my favourite Zelda games!!

Just picked up the physical switch release of F.I.S.T. Really great game! Bunny with a big mechanical arm in a steam-punk Metroidvania world! Very cool!
I personally felt that shovel knight dig did what it did on purpose. But I really enjoyed the game and got to drill knight on my first run. My brother said I got really unlucky with the level layouts I was getting. He had already beaten the game before. But I have only done one run so my opinion is based on 40 minutes of gameplay.
I had to get back to backog as I needed to not spend money on games :) so I started Young Souls. I bought it to play it with kids but they didnt like it back then. So I played it solo now and finished it and my god it it a great game! Both gameplay and narative! Love it
I remember the trailer for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well and was thinking the same thing. Like, how on earth could you see or hear (I remember that Polaroid noise also) any portion of that trailer, besides the first couple seconds, and think that it would be a fun romp. He must’ve seen it in a bar while he was wasted, talking with a friend, a dog was barking in his ear and he forgot his glasses 😂

I've been really enjoying Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars. It's a straightforward JRPG with surprisingly funny and dark moments.

Personally i enjoyed it as much as i could at launch but with the bugs like: Textures/backgrounds not loading, fights crashing, falling thru the floor of maps, menu freezes/crashes I only got to the 2nd dungeon before i put it down.
Zombies ate my neighbours was my first video game and I think it’s absolutely fantastic. I wouldn’t recommend it more. I still play it all the time, and so does my older sister. I’m still awful at it but I adore it so much.
Man i loved Rogue trooper back in the day. But im still playing Phoenotopia!

I was going to buy Astria Ascending when it came out. I found the art style that gorgeous, but I got a trial for gamepass and the game was there for me to try it. The game was as gorgeous as I thought it would be, but after playing it for a few hours the rest game did not entice me enough to keep playing it. I still think I may get it someday, but whenever I look at my backlog...
Angry Video Game Nerd I & II is what I have been playing lately, and it's actually a great couple of games. It stay true to the type of games the Video Game Nerd HATES, but it's also very enjoyable. Not too hard and not too easy because of the difficulty levels you can switch between. I highly recommend them, but a warning.......not for kids lol.

Feel like I keep banging on about this in the comments (I apologise SwitchUp community!) but as I fractured my spine in 6 places and have an approx 3 months recovery ahead of me, I've crazily dived deep into Disney Dreamlight Valley. Perfect chill game with no fast twitch response needed.
Also got Bear & Breakfast & The Wild at Heart waiting on my Switch home screen for me too 👍

Haiku looks awesome! Just started college so not much free time, but when I can I've been switching between Graveyard Keeper and A Link Between Worlds! I would recommend both, but have to say ALBW is turning out to be one of my favourite Zelda games!!

Just picked up the physical switch release of F.I.S.T. Really great game! Bunny with a big mechanical arm in a steam-punk Metroidvania world! Very cool!

On the Switch I'm bouncing between Anno and Steamworld Heist, I've been waiting for Jack Move so I will have to get it soon.
A good short but fulfilling game I played and enjoyed was "Jack Move". I needed a break from "Saga Fronteir Remastered".
I personally felt that shovel knight dig did what it did on purpose. But I really enjoyed the game and got to drill knight on my first run. My brother said I got really unlucky with the level layouts I was getting. He had already beaten the game before. But I have only done one run so my opinion is based on 40 minutes of gameplay.
I had to get back to backog as I needed to not spend money on games :) so I started Young Souls. I bought it to play it with kids but they didnt like it back then. So I played it solo now and finished it and my god it it a great game! Both gameplay and narative! Love it
I remember the trailer for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well and was thinking the same thing. Like, how on earth could you see or hear (I remember that Polaroid noise also) any portion of that trailer, besides the first couple seconds, and think that it would be a fun romp. He must’ve seen it in a bar while he was wasted, talking with a friend, a dog was barking in his ear and he forgot his glasses 😂
